Tamara's Diary

I'm discusting!!!

I decided to start a weightloss journal on paper... and I counted out the approximate amount of calories I've had today... BIG MISTAKE!!! I discust myself! I just want to cry... I didn't realize how much food I acctually consumed today, not to mention the calories!!! It's ok if my husband eats like this with how fast his metabolism is, but NOT ME!!! Now I'm just so depressed it's not even funny...

Here's what I've eaten with the approximate calorie amounts:

Breakfast: Lucky charms and banana = 492 cal.
Lunch: Hamburger w/ sides and fries = 667 cal.
Snack?: Rocky road icecream = 340 cal.
Snack?: Rocky road icecream = 170 cal.
Dinner: Baked potato, peas, cod = 412 cal.
Coke: 170 cal.

Total = 2251

I just feel like crying...

Re-evaluating...

This morning I took another look at what I ate yesterday, and I calculated the calories wrong yesterday. Including the ice cream I ate after my post last night (out of depression)... I consumed 2793 calories yesterday.

So instead of putting myself down, I took a look at what I ate, and what I should have done differently. Well, first of all, the icecream is what killed it for me, lol... without it, the calories would of been 1943. And if I haden't drank the coca-cola, it would have been 1773.

Now, if I had no cheese on my burger, and substituted the mayo with mustard, my calorie intake would have been perfectly fine, and even under my maximum calorie allowance. Had I not had the icecream, soda, cheese or mayo, I would of only consumed 1578.

So I'm feeling better about yesterday, since all I can do is make the changes today so I don't have a repeat of yesterday.

Boy have I had some of those days! Let me tell you I've gone way overboard and I stay overboard for the rest of the week. I give you credit for looking at it and deciding what you could have done differently. Keep on it! What is you're daily calorie intake? I keep mine between 1500-1800.. I'm just wondering if mines on the norm or not.

It's great that you are looking at yesterday - and I hope you're not beating yourself up- but as it seems -looking for ways to make today and tomorrow better :) way to go - that's progress and total success :)

No one has perfect days all the time :) imperfect days will happen - just keep going forward as you are :)

I like to keep my daily intake at about 1400-1600 calories. Thank you both for your kind and supportive words! :)

I totally agree. No one has perfect days. Its just the stepping stones of progress. I think you're doing great. You should be proud of what you've already done. :)

I think I did better...

Your right... and I am proud of what I've already accomplished. I just wish the weight could melt off overnight, you know?

I'm just glad I have these forums for support. My mom and siblings are also overweight, and it just doesn't seem like their happy for me, or supportive at all for that matter... I've noticed that they like to turn it into some sort of competition or something. And my husband joined the army and is leaving for the next 5 months for basic training and ait (schooling for his job)...so I really need the extra support...

Anyways... today...

I think I had about 1635 calories. It was really hard to count the approximate amount of calories in my moms baked spaghetti. I estimated that a serving would be about 300 calories... I probably had about 985 calories at dinner alone w/ the 1/2 of coke I had added in, but I only had 400 calories before dinner, and after dinner I had a granola bar w/ 150 calories (I also picked some cheese off of the spaghetti 100 calories? probably over doing it, but, that's added in the 1635 aswell), and a sip of coke, no idea how many calories are in a sip of coke, lol... :p

We have coke in the house... and it's sooooo hard not to drink :(

I'm "feeling" hungry now... but I think that's just boredom... I should probably go to bed soon.

Mmmmm... I want a coke... :(
No more coke for me...
Mmmmm... water... :rolleyes:
Mmmmm...sleep fixes all temptations... lol... :p

Since I ended up going to bed early this morning, I ended up waking up late this afternoon, at about 1:30...and not to mention splurging early this morning, aswell...

Today I've had:

Splurge:
1/2 pb sandwhich (1 1/2 tbsp pb): 268 cal.
small banana: 90 cal.
6oz. glass of o.j.: 90 cal.
Total = 448 cal.

Brunch?:
3 egg whites, 1 yolk: 104 cal.
1/2oz. pork saus.: 89 cal.
1 piece wheat toast: 100 cal.
1/2 tbsp grape jelly: 25 cal.
4oz. glass of o.j.: 60 cal.
Total = 378 cal.

Dinner:
Single serv. taco pizza: 380 cal.
Small banana: 90cal.
2c. green leaf lettuce with french honey dressing (1 tbsp): 80 cal.
Coke: 150 cal.
Total = 700 cal.

I WAS doing good... up until like 2 cups of white cheddar cheese pasta, a couple handfuls of my missing doritos, and another coke... I don't want to know how many calories were in that junk.

Before my huge downfall earlier I only had 1526 cal... and afterward? Ummm... I don't know, probably like 700 more calories or something... if I'm right, that'd be approximately 2226 calories...

It's a lot harder to get on the diet train after pregnancy then I thought it'd be... I have no willpower :(

Maybe once the junkfood is gone? I think it is now...

I'm so depressed, I'm failing so f***ing miserbly... what's the point?

*sighs*

Maybe I should preplan tomorrow meals so I don't screw up again?
I'll come post my plan for tomorrow later...

Preplanned meal for tomorrow...

Ok, I'm hoping if I preplan my meals, I'll be able to stick to them better, so here's what I've come up for my preplanned meals for tomorrow...

Breakfast:
1c. Cheerios: 100 cal.
1/2c. Milk: 60 cal.
Sm. banana: 90 cal.
4oz. glass o.j.: 60 cal.
Total= 310 cal.

Snack:
Animal crackers: 60 cal.
Sm. banana: 90 cal.
Total = 150 cal.

Lunch:
3 cups iceburg: 30 cal.
1 tbsp Honey french dress: 70 cal.
6oz tuna: 150 cal.
Total = 250 cal.

Snack:
5 ritz: 80 cal.
1 tbsp pb: 95 cal.
Sm. orange: 45 cal.
Total = 220 cal.

Dinner:
3oz. Salmon: 175 cal.
5c. iceburg: 50 cal.
2 tbsp Honey french dress: 140 cal.
Cherry coke: 150 cal.
Total = 515 cal.

Snack:
Animal Crackers: 60 cal.
Sm. banana: 90 cal.
Total = 150 cal.

Tomorrows total calories will be: 1595 calories.

Now for exercise... I was thinking cardio, and walking. Anything but walking has to wait until I speak to my doctor though, since I had a c-section.

I have to remember that this dieting thing will get easier when I have more variety of foods... which will be when Michael's paycheck comes in mid-may.

I just hope it gets easier.

Oh, and I really need to drink water...
I only had 4oz of water today...:eek:

Well maybe preplanning the meals didn't work that well, since some of the iceburg was yucky as of this morning. I did great until 10:00p. I went over my 1600 calories by 644 calories. I felt hungrier then I was at 10:00p, so I over ate on 2c. mac n' cheese, 1/2 coke and 3 scoops of chocolate icecream with chocolate and caramal syrup... it was yummy... but was it worth it? :(

I'm sure however, that I'm eating a hell of a lot LESS calories now then I was, even though I'm going over my 1600 limit... maybe I should up my calorie allowance to 1600-1800 instead of 1400-1600 until I get used to this diet again? Or perhaps give myself a break because we don't have much food in the house at the moment and I have to eat what we have until we have $$$?

Anyway, here's a look at what I ate today:

B: 1c. cheerios, 1/2c. milk, sm. banana, 4oz glass oj: 310 cal.
L: 3oz tuna, 1tbsp. mayo, mustard, 1/2oz bread n butter pickles, 1 slice wheat bread, 2oz carrots, sm. orange, 6 animal crackers: 335 cal.
D: 3oz pork, 1/2c. rice, 2tsp. parmeasan, 1/4tbsp. 40% vegoil butter?. 2c. iceburg, 1 1/2tbsp. ranch, 1/2c. cottagecheese, 1/2 coke: 714 cal.

Plus whats listed above = 2244 cal.

32oz. water... and no exercise.

Maybe I'm doing better then I'm giving myself credit for, I weighed myself today, for the heck of it, I wasn't going to get mad if I weighed the same, or more... and it said I lost 3lbs. Besides, I have no idea what my normal days looked like calorie wise while I was pregnant... :confused:

And... it defineately doesn't help my selfesteem when my own mother called me a pig today!

Last 3 days...

I've been having a bad couple days, so I took a short break from the forums, and that probably wasen't a good idea.

Here's what the past couple days have looked like...

Friday's total: 2 boiled eggs, 1/2 orange, 2oz. cranberry juice, 5 pieces of pizza, and about 3 cokes = 2500 calories.

Saturday I had: 2 slices of pizza @ 740 cal. some potato salad, some jello salad (jello w/ whip cream), a hotdog with bun, ketchup, mustard, and relish, hamburger with bun and cheese and a little miracle whip (icky! i thought it was mayo :(), handful of potato chips, some carrots, some broccoli, some peapods, 1 grape tomato (i didnt like them :rolleyes:) a little dill dip, a coke and 2 6oz glasses of koolaid... I have NO IDEA how many calories I had... but I did some guesstimating...and I got: 1887 *shrugs*...i had such a small amount of potato sald and jello salad...I think i over estimated calories, or underestimated a little, but thats as close as i could get...it's hard when your invited to a bbq :p

And...

Today:
B: Tortilla wrap w/ lettuce, tomato, turkey, string cheese and 1tsp. mayo = 328 cal.
L: 2 tortilla wraps w/ lettuce, tomato, string cheese and cheddar cheese, 1 w/ turkey, 1 w/ sweet and sour chicken (1oz) and a coke = 839 cal.
S: 2 string cheese, 1/2 orange, 3 slices turkey = 235 cal.
D: 2 bowls of soup with veggies, beans, and beef = 400 cal.
12oz water... :( so far... and 2 glasses of chocolate milk: 444 cal.
Total = 2246 calories. :(

Hi Tamnix,
I was just reading your diary (I started in July and was just catching up).

Have you checked what your BMR is? How many calories you need to simply maintain weight - I would imagine you need more calories then you're getting and by setting the bar too low to begin with you're hurting your efforts in 2 main ways...
1. You're more likely to go over your calories which results in feeling like you're failing.
2. IF your calorie intake is too low to begin with, what will you do when it's time to lower your calorie intake due to a plateau?

It does sound like you have a lot of junky foods in the house, and don't seem to have many healthier options to reach for when you're feeling snacky.

Also, you didn't mention, are you nursing, if so, you do need to allow for extra calories to maintain your milk supply.

You can do this, it's about taking steps towards reaching that goal. You've lost 34 pounds and are getting closer to that goal :)

Taking small steps...cutting the soda, drinking water, going for walks - these are all little things you can do that can ultimately have a big impact!

Best wishes,

Hi Tamnix,

I googled BMR (because I didn't know what you meant) and found a BMR calculator at , and it said my BMR is 2075.45 and this might sound stupid, but I have no idea what that means...my guess however is, I need to eat less then that many to lose weight? and eat that many to maintain my current weight?...

Also, you didn't mention, are you nursing, if so, you do need to allow for extra calories to maintain your milk supply.

I'm trying to breastfeed at the moment... but I'm not producing much, maybe an ounce (if even)... but I haven't really been breastfeeding much because I end up crying... I've practically given up on breastfeeding.

Thank you so much for your kind, motivating words!

I looked into my BMI a little more, and realized that the goal weight I had (180lbs) was still considered obese, and 140lbs for my height would be normal, so I changed my goal weight, however I'm still going to have short small goals to help me along the way...

Hi Tamara,
Yes, BMR is the lowest your body needs to function not counting exercise.

With nursing you NEED to have at least that much - I can check but it should be at least 500 calories extra for nursing.

As for nursing, if you want to continue nursing, there are things you can do to increase your milk supply.

Nurse, nurse, nurse - nurse first before offering suplements, increase your calories, if you can, get some fenugreek capsules (is there a trader joe's near you?) drink tea with fenugreek if you can't get the capsules. Drink WATER - you need to keep hydrated.

If you want to keep nursing, you CAN :)
