Taking the stairs to success!!

hahaha - I think I'm having a yummy week too... ;)

With the calorie counting, it just helps to give me some perspective - it keeps all of my eating a conscious decision. I know that I can't just sit and eat something mindlessly, as I will need to count it later. It just is a jog to my memory that everything I eat is my decision - not mindless. Not sure if that makes sense... When I don't count, I kind of subconsciously trick myself. Silly brain.

xx

Don't think I am going to see much of a loss this week - but it sure was a yummy week! :)

I am feeling the same way...it just sucks as you lose weight you need less calories....when I started my journey I needed 2025 for maintenance..now its down to 1910...that is a huge chunk 115 calories..I miss them!! haha...it seems like my calorie deficient is so much lower on a daily basis..now for the same work!

lol - that's the sad thing about losing weight, :nopity:is you lose those maintenance calories! I have to keep reminding myself that I would rather be healthy and a healthy weight than have those 12 pieces of rollkuchen!!!

Well - I think it is more than just allergies :( good news is that it is above the neck so I can still exercise, but I need so much more motivation to do it when I am sick. Not eating so well tonight either - but on the plus side I minimized the damage by making a better choice! Instead of eating a big bowl of brownies, icecream, chocolate chips and chocolate sauce that my husband offered me - I had half a watermelon instead! :giggle:
I have committed to going to my friends step class tomorrow morning - that's what I need to get me there, she is counting on me so I have to show up! I am sure that I will have an awesome time!
My 5K race is in 2 weeks - I think I should be able to do it in under an hour if I can keep my training up. I am so excited!!!! My reward if I can do it in under 1 hour is new shoes (or other running/fitness stuff) from the running store in town. More good incentive for me! :)

Oh man your husband is evil.... all I want now is what he offered you! And how you had WATERMELON instead I will never know! :)

Hope you're feeling better soon. Take it easy at the step class - don't make yourself sicker!

I love watermelon! I think it is my favorite food.
The step class was good - I was the only participant so we did an easier workout than sheduled (still a great workout though!) She had some cool step moves that I will need to add to my at home step workout - I might try to go again next week if the gym gets my membership fixed.

I don't count calories but i am not dead against it. I think its good to learn the calorie values of food and to do it for a period just long enough to get a feel for them. I think its good if you can find a way to avoid the need ultimately, as i have done. I learnt to do it this way by following the CSIRO total wellbeing diet book for a while. The meals in the plans are based on a number of calories but they tell you easy ways to calculate things and you learn how much food is about the right amount. Because you learn about nutrition you learn that fat is 4 times as high in calories as carbs and protein. As a result of all that nutrition study, i am usually much more interested in the nutritional value of food than the calories count. So long as i keep fat to a minimum and sugars out of the picture - for me sugars end up in me consuming too too many calories cause i can't control them much.

Its true calories are not created equal. That's where the Glycaemic Index comes in. It can tell you how to get the most satiation out of your carbs. Well that's jsut another point in addition to teh one you gave.

i don't think it matters too much that inaccuracy is high. If you are following a system, then you will be ok for the most part so long as you can be honest with yourself.

I think counting how many calories you burn through exercise is pointless. I think there the error is going to be huge for everyone because we all do these things so differently. I prefer to measure my activities in something easily measured like time or distance if its walking or running. You simply don't need to be that anal about exercise and calorie counting. And that is quite unhealthy.

I don't know about food disorders but it probably does make you a obsessive and a bit hard to live with and unnecessarily complicates your life. I don't think its a bad idea to keep on reading the labels on packets though so you know just how many calories are in a certain food you are tempted by. I wouldn't like my diet to be ruled by counting calories. Its simply too much work. There are easier ways.

Uh - so sick today, but here are my stats for August.

BMI......40.3 Yikes!...........34.0...........33.1......?? will figure out later.
Bust.....48/38".................45.0"/36.0"..44"/36"...45"/35"
Waist....48".....................44"............44".......43"
Hips......50".....................46"............45".......44"

Wow - that makes me feel a little better! I love seeing the inches drop!! My size 14 pants that I just bought are getting a little baggy - I might have to venture out into the realm of size 12 just for kicks to see if I can get them on! :)

Hey long time.....but I am SO HAPPY to see you are doing so well! You still seem really motivated (and motivating too:) Hope to keep up with your progress more! Hope everything isnt as busy for you these days! Look at those measurements! isnt it nice to see progress!

Ugh! Being sick has sure made it hard to stay on track and not be a crabby mommy! I think I need to go over my goals, weight loss targets and changes again. I made a motivational collauge (hmmm - my spell check isn't working - sorry!) so that will help to remind me when I wake up what my goals and priorities are for myself right now. I posted it right beside my bed (my husband doesn't think it matches the decor very well! lol)

My Y fitness contract no longer includes the free membership so I am not sure if I am going to continue teaching there or not, I will have to do some deep thinking! :( I think I will try to do my friend's step class again this Saturday as I still have my membership for another week.

Feeling kinda not into the healthy and active thing right now - I am sure that will change when I start feeling better. If only the baby could sleep more than 15 minutes at a time, then I could sleep and start feeling better sooner!!

love the motivational colleague idea!! sorry you have been feeling sick....and on top of having no sleep...no wonder your not feeling the healthy thing....your exhausted!!! my sons are 16 months apart and never slept....now as teenagers thats all they do...lol...it gets better I swear...hang in there mommy!! :)

You're at 185!!!! That is soooo awesome!

The collage has been great - I had so much fun making it and it is really meaningful to me. I look at it every morning when I get up (it is right by my bed). I am feeling a little better now and am almost ready to recommit to fit. I am making a list of all the reason/excuses I have for not exercising and eating healthy so that I can come up with solutions when those feelings/things strike again. I am also making a list of all the benifits of being healthy and active so that they can motivate me when I am not feeling very motivated.

Wooo Whooo! Goal accomplished!!! Just finished 5K walk/jog in 58 minutes!!! I took the dog so I am not sure if that made me walk faster or slower, lol! Next goal 5K in under 45 minutes. Maybe I can do that on the race on Saturday? How awesome would that be????!!!

AYahooo! Congrats on achieving your goal! :) Did you have to stop at all because you were walking with the dog?

Do the race! I'd love to hear how it goes!!!

I ran/walked a sample 5k once with my friend to get an idea of time and I think I was around the hour also....so I know you can get to 45 minutes....that would be so awesome!! I'm cheering for you!! :)

Well, I am not sure if I did it or not - but I think I sure came close!!! When I crossed the finish line of the race today the clock said 47 minutes - now, I didn't start right at 0:00 becuase I was in the back of the pack and I stopped to talk with my mother in law at the water station for a couple of minutes - so it is very possible that I did it in under 45 minutes. Official results aren't posted online yet so I will have to wait and see. I am so excited!!!

I found an exercise in a fitness magazine that I tried yesterday. It asked to write down all the barriers that you encounter in one day that get in the way of you achieving your fitness goals. The next step was to thing about ways that you can overcome those or ways that you can work around them. It also asked to write down the reasons why you want to achieve your fitness goal so that if you have a tough barrier that you can't easily work around you can look back at your benifits of the completed goal to hep motivate you.

So here is my list of barriers from yesterday and some possible solutions:

barriers to health......................................possible solution

mmmm cookies!!! (I can't just eat one!)........don't buy them!!!!! or tell yourself that you don't like them

house stuff (cleaning, etc)............................lower your standards, get hubby to help, declutter so there is less mess, get more organized, hire someone to help

i'm tired......................................................try a little exercise (15 min) to see if you get more energy, if not - have a nap, try going to bed earlier if kids are asleep

just don't feel like it.....................................remind myself of the benifits of being health and visualize myself at my goal, do something fun

kids...........................................................do something with them (jogging stroller, park) or go to the gym when there is childcare available

tim horton's................................................don't go (make it a sometimes treat) find at home alternatives to take with, like something with lower calories

stuck in the house......................................do weights, ride bike, step class, dvd, dance

other priorities get in the way.......................remember that being healthy and active will help with all your priorities, schedule time for me to be active

yummy food...............................................have a small taste, enjoy it and move on - buy healthy yummy food!! ;)

comfortable the way I am............................remember how good it feels to be fitter, remember benifits and end goal!!

lack of time................................................really???? re think your priorities!!

So now to write down some of my percieved benifits and a visualization of me at my goal!!

Finished it in 45.37 - so close!!! If I didn't stop to talk with MIL I would have done it! That's ok - I have registered in another race in October - so I should be able to do it for sure then!!! :)
