Taking the stairs to success!!

Hi girl! Good on you for putting up the pics! And WOAH it is awesome to go down a size! You are going so well :)

I love that your health-kick is impacting on the health of your whole family too. What a motivation that must be for you. Good on ya!

:hurray:Just weighed myself for the last day of the July challange and I am happy to report that I a 189.6!:hurray:

That means I am 15 lbs away from not being obese (just overweight) and being at the weight I was before I got pregnant with my son. :willy_nilly:
And only 45 lbs to being a healthy weight!!

I am hoping to get to 175 in 3 months - that's 5 lbs/month - should be doable! The focus is still on being healthy and active, but the weight loss and time frame is added incentive :)

Thank you! I am so very happy - I never thought I could actually get to this weight. Now that I am here - I am even more motivated to keep going becuase I think I can actually do it!!

Ugh! Spent the long weekend at my in-laws and had wayyyy too many desserts and not enough exercise! Oh well, life happens - lets get back on the horse! Not going to weigh myself, that could be depressing, so for the August challange I am using my July chalange end weight. Clothes are fitting better - so at least I think I am still losing inches! :)

Wow - I love being at home! I like that I can control the food that is in the house, the meals, the way food is prepared and the activities that are done! I think I will need to work on a plan for when I am away from home and someone else has the majority of the control for these things.

Welcome home :) ....I don't know if I will ever be one of those " brings their own food everywhere people" but there has to be a better plan than just being at the mercy of other people...lol...I'm in for you finding a solution for us..haha

Welcome home!!! I totally know what you mean... I just got home myself, and my parents have gone home, so it's like my eating life now has to return to normal. Yay! :)

How's it going since you've been back?

Can you just go with some of what they serve and have a bit of vegie snacks on the side or something that you find healthy if you need to substitute. Unless of course all their meals are totally unsuitable.

Or maybe you could take some preprepared frozen meals that you've made and some salads, that should be fairly easy to get together at family's place. Do you go away a lot.

Its great that your family is going along with your dietary changes.

Me personally i wouldn't dream of giving up white pasta. I wonder if the problem is not the white pasta but the sauces that go on it. I find on my cycling trip that white pasta keeps me going a long time so i question the view that there's some thing wrong with pasta. I think perhaps the flour used in spaghetti is better than that used in white sliced bread. There are also some good white flours that have a high protein content. But anyhow, keep going with your transition to wholegrains with your family because its good if you can widen you diet to new healthy things for your whole family.

Maybe when dessert is being served at those places you are visiting, you can have fresh fruit salad and natural yoghurt. I love this anyway. Or stewed fruit with yoghurt.

We are going away alot this summer as I am off on mat leave (normally summer is my busy time and I can't take holidays). We just got back from a family reunion at the lake and I did pretty good with being active, and eating 'ok'. I did bring some of my own food as we knew what the menu was ahead of time and I was able to make a plan of attack early! I am weighing in tomorrow for the August fitness challange so we will see if it has been working the last couple of weeks! ;)

Scale said 188.6 this morning! I am very happy with that. 185 here I come!!
I woke up with a cold or something this morning so I am not sure if I will get my scheduled exercise in today or not - we will see how I am feeling and play it by ear. Must make sure to get my water in as I feel a little dehydrated today.

Oh boo! Hope you don't get sick! I hate that feeling of impending doom when your glands are up and you just have to try to kick it before it kicks you!

Congrats on going so well with the weight! You'll be at 185 in no time! I'll see you at the August challenge!

Thanks! I have decided that it is just allergies (at least that is what I am telling myself!) I am feeling better this afternoon.
My hubby has a workshop to go to toight after supper so I think I will take the kids to the park in the jogging stroller - we will try to go the long way, then I can get my exercise in and they can have some fun playing. Sam has started to crawl and is no longer happy just sitting on the blanket at the park so I think I will take her down the slides with Jake and maybe try her in the baby swing. I like to do squats while I push Jake in the swing - we'll see if I can make it work with 2 in the swings. That could be an adventure! lol

Found this about not calorie counting - I think I agree with it, more research is needed before I commit, lol!

1. Calories are not created equal. While the calories in a handful of almonds are the same as the calories in a handful of M & Ms, the nutrition is absolutely different. The more nutritious almonds are loaded with vitamins, minerals and fiber that will keep your blood-sugar levels stable. Sugary chocolate will do just the opposite, leaving you sluggish and hungry in a matter of minutes.

2. Inaccuracy is high when counting calories. Buying the latest counters and signing up at the best websites is no different. The only way to truly know what you’re putting in and out is in a science lab. And there are even errors with this method.

3. Eating all of your calories at one time will kill your metabolism. Spreading your meals throughout the day by eating every 2 – 3 hours will keep your metabolic furnace burning at a steady rate. Skipping meals puts your metabolism in starvation mode = fat-storing mode = very little caloric output. While your calories may be the same each day, how you use those calories is very different.

4. Burning calories is different for everyone. The treadmill may tell you that you are burning 250 calories per half hour, but this depends on numerous factors, including your weight, your age, your percentage of lean body mass, the effort you are putting forth, etc. Again, unless you are in a science lab every time you work out, you are just using generalized estimations.

5. Calorie counting inspires food disorders. An obsession with numbers is not only time consuming, it also fuels our obsession with food and the scale. This is not a natural relationship with food, and can lead to a lifetime of eating disorders.

Any thoughts???? (this is from Tosca Reno and her Eat Clean Books)

I think until I am at my goal weight and in maintenance mode for a long time like 6 months to a year....I will have to calorie count...it gives me a sense of security... even if the calories aren't 100% accurate...it has worked so far so why change it..JMHO :)

Hmmm - yea, that was the part that I was really unsure about. I don't think that it will result in eating disorders - I know when I did it, it drove me crazy, but didn't cause any disorder. I also think that it can be a good tool for people that are able to use it.

My main thought (after some reflection) is that we find 'information' that supports our views and then ignore other information that we find. ;) I am still searching for a food accountability system that works for me - lol!

LOL - I do that too!!! I hope on a couple of times and take the most common number (starting to get a little obsessed!) That's part of the reason that I got rid of my last scale, hee hee hee. I am trying to be a more responsible scale owner this time around!

Congrats on the 188.2!!! That ROCKS!!!
