supstituting chinups

pendley's 5x5 routine calls for me doing rows on mondays and fridays. chinups are done only on wednesdays.

monday
squat
bench
row

wednesday
squat(80%)
deadlift
military press
chinups

friday
squat
bench
row

SO my question is: can i substitute chinups for wherever rows are? so i would be doing chinups 2x a week on monday and friday? would it ruin the routine? i like working on my chinups and i feel they are much more effective than rows so what do you think? should i just keep it the same? :D

sorry for the OT ..

this is the 5x5 strength program ?? maybe ill give this a try .. i was doing the 3x5 riptoe program before

I would still do rows at least one day a week. You need a horizontal pulling motion (row) as well as a vertical one (pullups/chins). So do pull/chin ups Monday and Friday and rows on Wednesday.

you need as much rowing (horizontal pull) as bench (horizontal push).
and the guy writes about half a page about how you shouldnt **** so much with this routine, and how every bodybuilder (not saying you are one) has a tendansy to edit everything, which could really well ruin it. the routine is simple and effective. doesnt it say something about adding chins?

If you want to chin on Wednesday or do a few sets of pulldowns/ups that's fine (avoid the machines if you can use bodyweight).

i agree with karky : ( i shouldnt mess around with it. but is it benificial if i do chinups on monday AND wednesday? kuz i love doing chinups they'r my favorite exercise. it just seems like 1 time a week is too little for such a great exercise >< same with deads

just do them a coupple sets on wendsday, dont **** with it. remember, the program is written by one of the best ;) how much experience do you have with serious lifting? (not counting the years you were doing biceps curls in you're room :p)

but theres much more to it than wat i wrote. sorry i dont have a link for the complete routine : ( just google 'pendley 5x5'

yeah, the program is mainly focused around squats, like he says its the foundation of the program ;) so afterwards if you want to bring up you're dead, you can do a more dead focus program :)
