Supplements, why?

I'm fairly new to the world of bodybuilding. I go to the YMCA, do my routine, yadda yadda yadda. But I don't quite understand what supplements like whey and creatine are.

Can someone explain to me what they are, why they're used, how they're used and if they're safe? Much appreciated. :D

heres one of the best articles on creatine i have seen. thats why i posted it here. it'll answer all your questions better than i could ever hope to.

I have a question, in that article it said that creatine hinders fat loss...is that true? For someone who wants to tone their body, would that mean they should phase out creatine from their diet?

some say when you're trying for the last few lbs or inches or points off your bodyfat %, dont take it. i dont think it makes a difference if you still have a ways to go. i've gone from 22.1% bodyfat to 18.1% while still taking it.

still have a ways to go. i guess i'll learn for myself if it hinders losing when i get down to the nitty gritty. :)

Thats cool, though I dunno what my goals should be. Im at 15% right now but I wanna go down to 10%. Im a somewhat lightweight, only 155 pounds at 5'11", so I still want to gain some muscle but i set a goal of going to 10% in about 6 weeks and trying to keep the same weight of 155, should I then phase out creatine from my diet?

IMO, if its 6 weeks, try without it.
