Success's Diary! 100 pounds need to go.

I completely agree about the starvation thing. I, too, used to think that the fewer calories I took in the more chance I had of losing weight. Since really educating myself over the last few months I have seen real results from just the opposite. Right now I am using an app to record my calories and exercise. It tells me that I should be eating about 1500 calories a day and this will result in a 2 lb weight loss per week. I have lost almost 24lbs in 3 months so it seems to be right on track (even though I have cheated a bit along the way ). Instead of taking in fewer calories I stick to a comfortable amount and then add in lots of water and exercise to jumpstart my metabolism. We seem to be in similar situations as I started at 240 and am looking to lose about 80lbs. I am sure different things work for different people, just wanted to let you know of something that could help. I wish I had realized this all a long time ago! It is hard, but I feel much more positive about myself already and it is so worth all of the hard work. I know you will accomplish your goal and look forward to watching your progress!

Thank you Alice!

I'm sure you could tell from my diary, I've been eating around 1,200 ...and I lost over 20 lbs in 3 months too...but maybe I should up the calories! What app do you use to figure it all out?

Thanks :)

I try to use their site as a rough guide since it's hard to tell exactly how many calories are in the foods we eat and hard to know exactly how many calories we're burning in a day but have to agree that there's no need in restricting calorie intake too far. Any time I've cut calories too low it always seems to lead to cravings and binges.

I checked out the fat2fit podcasts based on a recommendation and I really enjoyed listening to them. They provide good information.

I checked it out feeling good! Thanks! It turns out..I should be eating 1,700 calories...so that's how many I tried to eat today...plus I walked 4 miles today :)

i use the app called Loseit. the nice features are it scans barcodes and accounts for normal everyday activity in the calorie count. also you can set it to "i would like to lose 2lbs per week" and your starting weight and goal weight and it will graph everything for you as you go. the barcode scanner is good, but it does get very tricky when you eat out. I have found as a result that I don't eat out as often, also since now i know how bad many foods are for me. i also weigh everything and have noticed that i had no idea what a serving was until now.

my strategy has been to eat the suggested calories (at 1590 now) and then just look at the exercise as a bonus. i'm sure the few times i've cheated have helped balance out the exercise ;).

i am also hoping the app will help me maintain once ive reached my goal. it has a setting for this that will hopefully help me out once i get to that stage.

let me know if you decide to use a different app as I would love to check out all of my options :)

AMyfitnesspal is the same kind of application, but has a huge database. Like....huge. It has most restaurants, and lets you plug in your exercises. It also has the nifty barcode scanner.

Thanks everyone. For your responses. I need to get back to posting in my diary because I realized that when I physically don't keep track of what I eat...I eat more sloppy.

I've been up and down so much in the past week... I don't even know.

Hey Success,

We all have up's and downs...you've done great so far...20 pounds in 3 months is pretty darn good! Pat yourself on the back for that loss (don't celebrate with food...for me, that's where problems begin, when I use food as a reward!). As you may remember, I don't count calories, so I can't help with that, or what sites are best to help figure it out...looks like there are already alot of good responses from others who have had success. I plan to checking out the fat2fit pod casts feelinggooder recommended...a good uplifting affirmation is always good for me (and I can listen to it while I exercise!).

The most important thing is to stay with your program...whatever it is! I've been on my journey for 10 months as of tomorrow...and I've lost right at 80 pounds..so it is doable girl...just stick with it!

Sarah
