Stupid calluses! How do you keep from getting callused hands?

How do you keep from getting callused hands? Since graduating from the pretty pink and purple rubber-coated weights to the big ugly heavier weights, I've started getting calluses in my hands. How can I prevent that? Do people actually wear lifting gloves (and by people, I mean chicks like me who don't lift heavy... I think the heaviest freeweight I use is the 90# bb for SLDLs, but I use much lighter weights for most everytihing else, ie 15 or 20# db or 50# bb for almost everything)?

Im not a girl, but I have seen girls wearing gloves. I only wear gloves to keep my hands from getting ripped up, otherwise I would just go commando. Alternative would be soaking your hands in St Ives after a workout.:p

I assumed you weren't a girl... your name is busyMAN after all. No self-respecting girl would choose a name like that, lol. :p

Ripped up? That's scary... okay, I'm gonna need those gloves now...

I think it depends on the type you get... some have a grippy texture on the palms, some don't (from what I've seen in the last 20 minutes, looking online for some non-butch gloves)...

I wear gloves just because i blister bad when i use weights - they were the best few quid i spent. just get something nice and flexible and with a decent pad on the palm, you dont need to spend a lot at all. plus they'll wear after regular usage anyway.

I wear gloves all the time. lifting heavy or not. I don't want some rough callosed hands touching me so I try to give the same respect back to my guy.

I always wear gloves when I lift. I use the kind which small pads for extra comfort. If I can remember correctly, it took me a few sessions to get used to them... but after I did... I never went back to bare hands.

10-20 pound dumbbells is good and I can definitely see why your hands are getting callused. My vote is for gloves :)

I also use gloves, I'm so used to them that when I forget them it doesn't feel right. It helps with blisters and also with grip.

You can even stick them in the wash (just don't dry them), I got a pair they had in the shop at my gym I think I spent around $20...
