Struggles on the road to health

:blush5: Thanks...

I need to take some good ones, once that last pound is gone. Hey...cheesecake took me over the edge of the last little "plateau" I was at...maybe pasta will tonight...

Well, Olive Garden pushed me down to 159 (in my mind, at least). The weight DID drop to 159...but I'm sure it wasn't the Olive Garden.

Oddly enough, I did ok. I had the apricot chicken, which is on the restaurant's list of low calorie/fat foods, with some garlic mashed potatoes. One bread stick, a tiny bit of the salad, and tea with no-calorie sweetener. I was under my calorie limit for the day, even.

Then came Saturday. The husband wanted a burger, so I caved and had the same. Ended up having to eat in a rush, and ate out AGAIN for dinner. I was high on fat for the day, but calories were, once again, ok. Sodium was out of control.

So through all the fried food and badness I was able to stay below my calorie limit. Until Sunday. And it was Subway, of all things, that killed me. I'm not a fan at ALL of Subway's ham or turkey, so I've been getting the chicken bacon ranch, 6 inch sandwich when I eat there. I want to try the sweet onion chicken teriyaki, but haven't yet. Anyway, I go and get my usual sandwich, and input the 440 calories I found online that it contains. On the way out, our Subway FINALLY had a nutrition information book out, so I picked up a copy and out the door we went. I was halfway through the sandwich when I started looking...yeah...530 calories. The WRAP has 440. Crap. If I hadn't had a small serving of chips I would've been fine, but it pushed me over the edge.

Added onto that was the "Pampered Chef" party I attended. Nice kitchen gadgets I want to order...but also plenty of cheese, dips, chips and things. I only ate a few small cheese slices and one of the small, teeny tiny pieces of bread the lady cooked. All in all, it was ok. Luckily I screwed up dinner and the pork chops I cooked were inedible. We ended up with an 8 pm emergency meal of hot dogs, so I cut back and did ok there too. But the weight was 161 this morning.

On a good note, I purchased a recumbent bike for home this weekend at a garage sale for $150. It's a Nordic Trac, and I like it a lot. It's SO much more difficult than the bike I've been using at the workout center, but that's a good thing. It's going to make my schedule so much easier, too. I woke up early this morning, hit the bike for half an hour then went to the center when it opened and did my weights at a slower pace before getting ready for work. It'll be wonderful, I think. The husband's already contemplating giving it a try.

you got to 159 once - you'll get back there again - have no fear...

pampered chef stuff is pretty cool - I love the oven bricks -they make awesome brick oven pizza and incredible crusts on bread..

Gosh...I REALLY want some of the stoneware, but it's so expensive! We may see if we can find any for a lower price somewhere else. There are other parties coming up, so if we can't, I'll get it then.

I WILL see 159 again. Oh, yes....I will.

Oh, and on another note...the husband and I have decided that we LIKE our tea better with sweet-n-low, rather than sugar. So it's back to that, and refiguring the calories again. Good thing I'm at goal, or close to it. Because it's going to be rough going for a while...

You may notice a change on my ticker...I'm losing another 10. Not for anyone but me. I reached 160...but I think I've got some more work to do.

Wish me luck!!

This morning was GOOD!! Weekend, not so much.

But this morning I got up a little earlier than normal to get on the bike before I went to the workout center for my weights. I got going and didn't want to stop. I HAD to quit and get to my weights at 45 minutes, 14.5 miles and 250 calories burned, according to the machine. Felt GOOOOOOOD. Led into a good weight session and energy at work I wouldn't have normally had since we went to bed later than normal. Today MAY just be a good day.

On Saturday I went to help my dad and sister start cleaning out a large storage building our family has had for 10+ years. We barely got a dent made in it, but it was a start. Unfortunately I injured myself while standing on a milk crate full of junk, I shifted my weight, the crate shifted and dumped me off. Part of the crate ended up hitting my sister in the back, as she was sitting on the ground by where I was standing, and another half scraped down the side and back of my calf, leaving a large, painful bruise that hasn't even really come all the way up yet.

Other than that, it's all good. Weighed in at 160 this morning, as well. So I didn't gain weight over the weekend. And yesterday, I even had enough calories left to enjoy (thoroughly enjoy at that) an oreo ice cream bar. My first in nearly a year. :drool5:

Hey, SweatPea! I'm doing good...just busy lately. I'm wavering back and forth from 159 to 160. Blah.

I'm also having issues. Starting last Thursday, I began noticing that my bra was cutting into me some on my right side, just under my arm. Which was weird because my bras are a little too big, now, if anything. It's gotten progressively worse. I'm not sure if it's something in the lymph nodes under the skin, or something else. So I'm going to the doctor today at 1:30 pm to see what they think.

OH! And we traded in my pickup this weekend on a car! In the past, my husband's 2005 Dodge truck has been what we've gone out of town in, because it's had more room. Well, the other day it was nearly empty and he filled it up. The pump stopped at $85, but his truck wasn't full. We decided it was time to find something more fuel efficient, rather than have TWO trucks. We're keeping his to use for hauling things (which we actually do quite a bit), but we traded mine in.

We went to look this weekend, swearing to ourselves we were LOOKING, and NOT buying. Went to a Ford dealership to check out Ford Fusions. Drove an '07 Fusion, but the price on it was about $15,500 or $16,000, and it was an old rental car with 31,000 miles on it. My husband, being the brilliant car shopper he is, mentioned we'd buy a new one if we could get it for the price of an old one. So we went to the new car side.

There, we found an '08 Fusion, loaded, normally $21,900 vehicle on sale for $17,998. We said we wanted our payments less than $300 a month, but to get that we'd have to have $7,000 down. Not happening, we said, and got up talking about looking at other places. So the salesman runs to get the manager. He comes and knocks another $700 off the price, to make it $17,300 for this nearly $22,000 vehicle. SO tempting. But even then we'd have to have $3,500 down to get the payments below $300 a month. We were prepared to do $1,000, but my truck was at home, and not where we were (40+ miles away), and wasn't worth more than $1,000 on a good day.

So the guy asks about our possible trade in, and we tell him all about it, honestly. We tell him about the dents, dings and problems. He runs to his office, types in some stuff on the computer and comes back and offers us $2,500 for my truck, sight-unseen.

We talk a minute, and decide it's too good a deal to pass up. Especially since we like the car a LOT, it gets 30+ miles per gallon on the highway, we'd have payments below $300 a month and we couldn't guarantee another dealer would do the same on our vehicle.

So we ended up with a loaded 2008 Ford Fusion for about the same cost of a used one, WITH a good warranty, etc. Good deal, I think.

It sounds like you got a fabo deal on the fusion! :hurray: I bet you love it!

My dh drives a fusion, he loves it. I guess...though he does have a fondness for all of his cars. Today he said he got an avg of 28 mpg. So, it will definitely be a better deal for you than that old truck.

What color did you get?

It's called "vapor silver." The more I drive it, the more I love it!!!

Still feeling like crap, though. The doctor THINKS I may have shingles...but still no blisters/rash, etc. It's a week today since the pain started....not sure what to do....

I haven't missed a workout, though. So I guess that's a good thing... It's my TOM this week, too, so my weight is fluctuating like CRAZY. It was 160, then Tuesday was 157, then Wednesday was 160 again...today was 154. Crazy... Who knows where it'll stop when it's over...

Yuck about the shingles. I hope that you feel better soon. WTG on the weight loss. My scales are always psycho.

My husband has a really dark purple car - it's not really purple, but it almost looks black. I'm not sure what the color is called though. I think it's really nice though.

Still no rash, but still in pain. I'll just keep taking the big, huge horse pills I guess. It's no fun taking them, but I'm told it'll make things better if/when the rash and stuff develops. Maybe they're keeping it from coming up. Ick....that's all I can say.

:willy_nilly:

I have always associated shingles with - well the chicken pox rash ...

Had no idea

Before a rash is visible, the patient may notice several days to a week of burning pain and sensitive skin.
that was a symptom...

hope you're feeling better soon...

Thanks, Mal!! Kinda the same as you...I always heard about the rash/chicken-pox like stuff, but not the pain. It's day 8 since the pain began, and no sign of anything other than pain....

Wow, I haven't updated in a while. Here's what's going on...

Found out my four year old mixed breed dog, Emma, has heartworms. The treatment to potentially kill them will run us somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 to start, and that's not including any treatment for the complications that are likely to develop after the treatment. She's had them about a year, maybe more, they say. No idea how long she'll live with them. We're struggling with the decision on whether to have the treatment or not. We can afford to have it done one time, just barely, but not twice (which may be necessary if all the worms aren't killed the first time). So we're wondering whether to use that money at all. Then there are the complications...she's a fairly active, outside dog. But once the treatment is done, she can't be allowed to be excited for 6-8 weeks, or she could have a heart attack/stroke/embolism and die. She could do the same thing for months afterward, at random. And the recovery from the treatment sounds horrible...severe pain, weight loss, vomiting (food/plegm and blood). And when the worms die, they'll collect in her lungs to be "eaten" by her body, and can cause pneumonia, which has its own complications.

Do we love her? Yes. But will her quality of life following the treatment justify it? Not sure. She's ok now..running, playing, jumping, barking...and she may be fine another year or more. And if she starts having the symptoms that go along with heartworms (weight loss, coughing, etc...kinda like congestive heart failure), it'd be rough, but she could be put to sleep and spared the pain. The treatment WILL bring pain and could kill her, or its aftermath...not to mention costing us close to $1,000 or more by the time it's all done.

Not sure what to do..

On a personal front, my chest x-rays the doctor ordered came back clear. The pain in my side is still there, but it isn't unbearable. We're watching it to see if it goes away. He also ordered a full blood workup to try to see why I'm trying to pass out when I stand up, but I haven't heard any results from that yet. So we'll see...

Weight is around 154-155. I'm at 1,600 calories a day now, so we'll keep it there and see how stable it stays. Still working out 5X a week, and doing weights three times. I just really need to vary my routine a little...getting way stale. Maybe time to throw in some walking/jogging at the track in addition to the bike a few times a week.

S sorry about your puppy.. you'll know the right thing to do for you and for the pup... Good luck with the decision...

Hope you're feeling better soon...

Awe Mindi, sorry to hear about your dog. I know we sure do get attached to them.

It's been a few days...here's what's going on.

So far, at around 1,600 calories, no gains. In fact, I may still be losing, but I'll give it until after next week to see for sure.

We found a different vet to take Emma to, and the treatment was about $200 cheaper. So she was treated over the weekend, and we picked her up Monday. So far she's doing ok...it's just hard to confine an outside dog that's got to be kept cool and calm. She's staying inside mostly, now, and will have to until the second week of July. She's driving me NUTS!!!!
