Straight Set

Questions:
1when doing heavy(1x5), max effort straight set of squats, how many breaths are allowed in between reps?
2what are the resulting differences between doing a set of squats with 1 breath in between squats than with 3-5 deep breaths in between squats? is it a priority to keep the number of breaths in between reps to a minimum?

the reason i ask is that i feel like im cheating if i take more than 3 breaths in between squats.
 
I don't think that would be cheating. When I first started training I was under the impression that the reps had to be smooth and the next rep would have to start right at the time the previous one was finished, but once you start lifting heavy that's out.
