Stopinthe excuses & starting a diary

I love working outside! Good sweaty workout! Wheelbarrel is heavy!
The damn mosquitos chased us in last night. And I'm always worried about one of us getting that West Nile Virus, or getting bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider, YIKES!

Ooooh, dont you love when the little ones are at school! So much time to yourself and get misc things done here and there.

Cutting grass too! K your doing great! yard work is such a killer on the body you find new muscles everytime you do it i swear lol my son off to school this morning too, he was so excited hope yours was too(still young enough to be anyways lol)i know i was practically doing cartwheels :p

I still have one at home... my 17 month old...which it is kinda nice on my days off to have it just the baby and I again... and then we take on the big brother at 2:30 :-D
He just started soccer today and im watching him and he looks a bit chunky and was lazy about doing the exercises...I was ticked.... I told him that he is in for a rude awakening...

ah yes i still ahve one at home too but its so quiet now i can hear myself think! lol...i know how it is i was a chunky kid and playing sports wasnt always fun, kids can be quite mean too. i wish my mom would have been more careful with what she fed us. i think its why im so crazy about it when it comes to my kid i so dont want them growing up the way i did. your a good mom K shows you care about your son :) i think its pretty cool to hear about your kids too.

First of all..I would love to see your yard..I bet it is really nice with all the work you do in it.....Talking about your son...does your school district give out weight "report" cards?.....When I was living in Arkansas....my friends daughters school started doing that...( I believe it was statewide)...they got rid of coke and candy machines and started serving healthier foods......The thing I did not like was that they sent a letter home saying her daughter was overweight.....this girl was the tallest of her class..she played soccer and baseball...was a REALLY active child...she did not look fat AT ALL....plus she was 11 years old...and the hormonal thing was setting in on her....( hips and boobies were starting to grow)....but by their "chart " she was way over weight....The girls father was really upset with it..and watched EVERYTHING that child put in her mouth...and made comments like..." You dont need to eat that your gonna get fatter"......And the parents were suppose to send a snack everyday for the child.....my friend had not been to the store..so she had the girl take a little debbie snack day just for that day so she would not be with out....and the school would not let the girl eat it!..and called my friend and TRIED to make my her feel like a crappy mom for allowing her daughter to bring such an un healthy sncak.....Her comment was...."whats more unhealthy...a little debi snack cake she is going to burn at soccer practice...or not allowing my child to eat?.."......the MOST....bs of it all is that the school made it to where they had gym ONCE a week..and cut recess down to once a day for 10 minutes......sorry to ramble...got carried away...lol..

I agree kc...It horrible how critical action like that can make a person nuts and actually is what turns people into obese people or worse yet..severly emotionally handicap for the rest of their lives. I definetely get a little freaked when i see my son chunkin up a bit... However, I will not make him crazy about it. I do however drag him out for a walk or a hike, bike rides what have you..and make him realize that this is his WHOLE LIFE and he must take care of himself. I also really push fruits and veggies and never do we have soda here at the house...we allow him maybe one can here or there or a natural soda but not too much of that. I am going to start a boot camp for him and I and im hoping that it will inspire and encourage me as well as motivate him to be healthy. He has soccer right now which is terrific but the nights he doesnt he is trying to play the coach potato..which is exactly when I started to get heavy. I dont want that for him.
I am right now cooking dinner and im making basmati rice which is a whole grain wonderful rice and roasting some fresh tomatoes w/ basil and olive oil...that will be dinner. no meat.. we might add some cheese on top for more protein but thats it.
I try to keep dinners lighter and more fiber. I do hope that he learns from all of this and that i dont make him crazy over it.
His school doesnt have a weight report card... I would so have issues w/ that..those f-in charts dont mean crap! I would flip out if they ever did that to him.

Well..now i rambled :-D

That darn chinese food!,,,I ordered some tonight....lol...but I had me a lean pocket instead and fiance ate the chinese...
I think it is great what you are doing for your son....I am so scared on how I will be as a mother when it comes to food.....I know alot of things I will and will not being doing.
For example...not giving my child certain vegetables or fruits just because I dont like them...my mom admitted to me that when I was a baby and young child she never gave me alot of vegetables or fruits.....thats why I dont like to many.....
Your exercising and water intake looks really great.....and you know..I think Chinese w. veggies and chicken is way more better than a big mac or pizza....keep it up

Thanks KC... I am very impressed that you gave up chinese for a lean pocket...really! I dont have that much willpower. I did keep it to my fairly controlled portions & I didnt feel so bad as i worked out quite a bit.
I took my son out this morning and we walked and jogged in intervals (stretching first of course) and then we came home and played soccer for an hr... practicing dribbling, passing and moving the ball at a jog up and down the driveway. I found out how quick my son is and why they wear shin guards...as now i have a big honkin bruise on my shin where we smashed into each other. I however got him back by trying to shoot a goal and catching him in the chest and then the face when it bounced up. I felt terrible and it really hurt him for a second but he shook it off and was fine. whew! We did push ups and stretches at the end and he told me he felt good after. Im hoping if i stay on him it will keep him aware & make me more responsible for myself.
I never had anyone to work out w/ me...they just called me chunky monkey which i hated and would give me a hard time about it..but nothing else.
Todays food
B: 2 slices of rye bread
1 cup of coffee w/ half and half

S: 2 slices of cantalope

L: leftover chinese- 1/2 c rice, mostly chic w/ veggies

D: 2 hamburgers grilled, no bun, steamed broccoli
1 slice of homeade apple pie w/ small scoop of ice cream
1 glass of wine

Water: 80 oz...shouldve been better!
Exercise: about an 1.5 hrs including walking jogging, soccer drills, etc
also did gardening in the afternoon for 1 hr.

Chow for now!

How long do you go from a walk to a jog and then back again? One day I really want to be abel to jog. Right now I dont think my knees..( or my boobs) could take it. I remember when I was 17 I was going to this diet "doctor". I had to have a shot every week and I was left with bruises all over my hip...hated it...oh but boy did I get skinny....and then ended up gaining all that I had lost plus more!...( AND I WASNT EVEN FAT when I started going there. I had what people would now call a jlo body....but of course that was 1988 .....jlo bodies were not in style..lol......okay I am blabering...what I wanted to say was ..that I was also working out by wlking the neighborhood. And what I did was I would walk to one mail box and then run to the next, and then walk,,,and so on....I lost 5 lbs in 4 days of doing that.....
I was never really good at basketball...except to play horse......I always liked volleyball. And Swimming was my main thing I loved to do....now you cant even get me to stick my toe in a pool...lol.....
But I WILL SWIM AGAIN!!!!.....lol......keep doing what u r doing...your body will thank you...and your son will too...

Stoptheex~ sounds like you and your son had a great day. I try to get my daughter outside with me and she gives me a hard time. She is getting a bit pudgy and I blame it on myself. Hopefully if I keep on her she'll get used to it and enjoy playing outside more often. Thank god she now has P.E. 3 times a week!

Trust me my size Ds dont appreciate it much ..but my knees dont really bother me like they used to. I usually do kind of what you did between mailboxes... We will say ok..we are going to jog up our driveway or we are going to jog from here to the end of the road. The walk is about one mile and it goes thru the woods and loops around down the road and back to our place. I hope he does enjoy it because It encourages me to push myself more to encourage him. The food thing is tough w/ him because he wants the junk all the time and the hubby brings bad stuff home while I try to keep things healthy..very frustrating. Oh well.. Ill do my best ya know!
Thanks Kc!

My mother asked me the other day what they couldve done differently w/ me as a kid to keep me fit. I told her that they did their best and the only thing i can think of is no one in my family exercised..it just wasnt the thing to do back then and other than yard work..that was it. I told her if we had exercised more as a family maybe I wouldve kept it up..but who knows. You cant turn back time. Id probably do it all wrong again anyway!
LOL
It seems kids hit a stage..like 8 thru 10 and they get chunky and they either grow tall and out of it..or they dont. Im still waiting for my growth spurt :-D
LOL

Today was a good work out day...
Got up at 6am and my son and I went out for our walk/jog for about 20 min..then came home and did some pushups and got ready for work

Later today I did work out from 4 to 5 ...doing 10 min treadmill, 30 min elliptical and the rest abs and stretches...

Food:
B: 1 small roll w/ jelly , coffee
S: rest of my breakfast- 2 egg omelet w/ 1 saus link & 1 slice of cheese

L: basmati brown rice w/ tomatoes, onions & broccoli on the side..also had 2 slices of turkey I threw in there w/ 1 slice of cheddar for a little flavor

S: 1 slice of anadama bread w/ 1 tsp sugar free jelly & 1 tsp PB

D: tacos- ground turkey w/ black beans & veggies... 2 shells
1 glass of soy milk

Water: 80 oz

Thanks Christina! I just wish somedays that some of us ladies would live closer and we could form a work out support group and work out together! I had a workout buddy but she has reached her goal..she only had 25 lbs to lose and now im on my own!

same here, wish I had someone close to workout with. 4 years ago I went to Curves with my om and a close friend. But now mom lives far and friend lives farther.... whats a girl to do?

STE!
I remember when me anf my family moved to Norway...My dad bought him and my mom bikes. Well I over took my moms. They were not regular exercisers, but I remember them riding bikes with us, playing baseball, frisbee, swimming at the lake , badmitton, volleyball......
I was in baseball for one summer when I was like 12. Then after that ,they did not make me do any activities. But I walked and rode my bicycle, swam..and had gym everday at school....by the time I was 18 I was driving a car and was kinda partying alot so I never did the other things...

Children learn by example. So what you are doing with your son is setting him up for the future. As for the junk food....its EVERWHERE!......I remember growing up we did not have a lot of candy or chips or sodas in the house. But when I would go to a friends house and they had all those kind of things..I would GORGE myself.

You no longer have a work out buddy because she reached her goal?....So does she think that when you reach your goal thats it ??No more exercising?....I hope you find a new exercise partner!..Maybe someone with a longer goal than you!...lol

As for you daily heath plans...they have been looking real good!!..Keep it up!!!

My workout buddy is kind of a pain in the butt...very high maintenance...whines alot and we work together... Now after hitting her goal she would say to me " i cant believe i just dont sweat like you...jeez and i hardly get out of breath" "im gonna run this hill so i can at least get my heart rate up... you will catch up" it made me feel like a bigger fatter cow than i did before i strapped on my work out shoes ya know! I kinda felt like it was hurting my selfesteem to be w/ her. I now do my own thing and some w/ my son which is cool. I think maybe once i get back to curves maybe Ill post something on the bulletin board asking if anyone wants to be a "goal buddy" or something... we will see
Thanks... you guys!
