Stitch in my side every time I walk? Help!

So anyone reading my journal knows I walk pretty much every day. But since about Friday I've had a stitch that comes up after just a little bit of walking, exact same spot every time. Its pretty severe, right in my side. It hasn't happened before and I haven't changed anything about my walking. It happens pretty early in the walk. Even if I'm just walking to the store now! How do I prevent it or stop it once it starts? I'm joining a running club, first training today, and I'd hate for my for impression to be "that girl who keels over clutching her side after ten minutes" o_O Help?

Hi Panda,
Make sure you are well hydrated first, but like fit said, wouldn't hurt to see a doc. Could be a pinched nerve... is it on your right or left side? Its not uncommon to get little stitichy cramps while running or even power walking. I'm not sure how fast or hard you were wwalking so its hard to say. I coach cross country and the student athletes complain daily about cramping esp. early in season. Sometimes rubbing it out helps and goes away but only you can gauge the severity of what yuo're feeling and if you think its severe then I agree, a drs. visit is a good idea. Best wishes toyou.

Its on the right, like high on my side, not below the ribcage. Holding in my stomach muscles as I walk actually makes it hurt less haha. I'll try hydrating more. I just usually don't get stitches like this until like... mile 3 of a hard run or something. Its not faaair. I'm in shape, I swear! :p

Aw, I should have known it was BS, my biology teacher told me that. Right before I dropped her class.... she and I got into it when she told me that eating healthy and working out in order to strengthen myself to fight my brain tumor was counter productive. She told me the nutrients were making the tumor stronger since I was probably going to die anyway I should just sit on my couch eating Twinkies if I really wanted to give the tumor a nutrional "FU". Yeaaaah, I dropped that class and she's lucky I didn't file a lawsuit. She's pretty ignorant.

Wow! I can't believe a teacher said that to you! :eek2:

I used to get sharp pains in between my ribs just below my bra when I was in high school. It would make it extremely hard to breath for a min then it would be fine. My parents just said they were growing pains and I rarely have them anymore. Does it sound like something like that? Whatever it is, it never hurts to stop by the doctor. Hopefully it's just a pinched nerve.
