Staying in the middle?

So as i have learned on this website thus far, it is better to pick one, either lose body fat by eating less calories, or put on more weight by eating more calories. But here is my thing, i weigh 170, and for about 4 months, i have remained 170. I eat right, i do my cardio, i kickbox 3 days a week, do jiu jiu jitsu one day, and i lift the other days, so in total, i excercise 7 days a week. AM i doing something wrong? Am i building muscle if i am staying the same weight, am i cutting body fat if i am the same weight? Any responses would be nice. Thanks.

well, when you stay maintence, its not like your cals inn and cals out are exactly balanced at all times, one day you might be in a bit surpluss, the other day you might be in a bit of a deflict, etc. Id say you might be better off bulking a bit if you want muscle, or drop the cals if you want to diet.

So are you saying that you want to gain or what ? What exactly is your goal. 170 is a pretty good weight to compete at, or are you moving up ?

You can be losing fat and gaining a bit of muscle at the same time, but that is a tough call. You would be the best judge of that. Look in the mirror, or get a BF% measurement at your gym and compare the numbers after a month or so.

I have a somewhat similar question elsewhere and would like to clarify your answer. I have the understanding that if you want to make quick, dramatic changes in gaining muscle mass and losing fat, you need to bulk and cut. I also believe you can make slower, more modest improvements in both areas at the same time.

I hope this is the case. I have no desire to weigh 270 at 6% and compete. I weigh 210 with maybe 10-12% body fat(at 6'1) and would like to be able to keep my diet and amount of cardio relatively static and slowly continue to gain muscle while losing fat...just for general fitness and health. This is possible right?
