Starting Over

has there been any changes measurements wise?

eating at maintenance or close to it can cause a little bit of weight gain in people -but it shouldn't stay on long...

dont' stress over it pretty lady :)

My pants are tighter around the waist. I ate at maintenance in November and lost 5lbs. Now I' fucking gaining.

A year and 4 months I have been killing myself with exercise and have been eating impeccably and only lost 10lbs just to gain 5lbs back. I am young and super active, my metabolism shouldn't be so fucked up because of my thyroid. I was 130lbs before getting pregnant, my body should not be holding on to this fat like this. It defies nature! I can outrun guys in the USAF that are way thinner than me. My muscles are rock hard beneath the bodyfat and I burn 600-800 calories per workout 3-5 times a week with only 1500 calories/day. My dietician has tweaked my diet so many times that she has run out of options other than just changing the thyroid meds and waiting til the hormones get straightened out.

This is sooo goddamned frustrating! I haven't had a cigarette in years but this is making me want one! I have used running and weight training to help relieve stress from all of this but it's no longer working. It just makes it worse because now I think "why the hell am I doing this? it's not doing any fucking good." Grrrr! I don't need this added stress right now.

I'm sorry you're so frustrated about your weight. Here's a thought--you're working your ass off at the gym and eating 2500 calories a day (or were). I think it's quite possible that you gained some muscle. I don't think it's possible that you gained fat. My body does that shit sometimes, too. For example, I was 222lbs last Thursday. By Sunday I was 4lbs heavier. Now I'm slowly getting back down. I'm blaming my gain on my period which came yesterday, but you certainly could've gained muscle. My weight fluctuates like crazy, so hopefully you'll drop those lbs soon, too. :hug2:

It could be muscle. I have always gained muscle easily but DAMN, what a pain in the ass!

I called the doc about it and he truly thinks this new med will fix the hormone imbalances, it just may take a little while to get the correct dosage. Fuck, I have nothing but time with this.

Thanks Kimmerz!

It is a pain in the ass. I'm sure you're thinking you've waited long enough. Just hang in there--and keep in mind that if you just gave up all together, you'd probably start gaining a lot. At least you're keeping things at bay while waiting for the new meds to kick in. *kiss kiss* :D

Oh you poor thing Amy! Interesting post about you above. OMG I can just feel your frustration! So fuckin' unfair!!!!!! Especially you, one who works her ass off and eats like a bird. I've pretty much given up myself lately, you do start to wonder why you're bothering. I've really fallen off track for the last few months. I did put on 4 lbs within a few weeks of commencing weight lifting again, while my measurements decreased a bit (though they're probably back up now) so its very possible that its muscle. Didn't you start up at the gym lately rather than working out home? If so the heavier weights available at the gym, plus all those yummy 2500 calories, would've packed on some muscle. But like you, my pants are also a wee bit tighter and my high went up even higher today to 143. Oh so discouraging. I'll hope you're going to get past this and I'm hoping it'll motivate me at the same time! Cheer up in the meantime luv :).

I only was working out at home for about three months. I had a personal trainer at the gym 4 nights a week for the first 6 months after giving birth then decided to do it at home for awhile before returning to the gym again. My workouts were actually more strenuous when I was at home because I was running 4-5 miles EACH DAY and then weight training with the same amount of weights I use at the gym. My legs are rock solid from muscle as well as my arms, shoulders, and chest. I just have the body fat on top of the muscle that doesn't want to go anywhere. My body looks totally different now than when I gave birth and I know that's progress but the damn bodyfat should have already come off. I am a very healthy eater and I always keep the calories low so this just baffles me. Each day's meals are pretty much standard for me.

Breakfast: 2 medium boiled eggs, whole grain english muffin (plain), coffee (350 calories)

Snack: tuna in water with 8 whole grain crackers (230 calories)

Lunch: Turkey on whole grain wheat, no mayo or cheese OR grilled fish with baked squash and green beans (250 calories)

Snack: 1 apple and 1 kiwi (140 calories)

Dinner: Grilled protein (chicken or fish), veggies sauteed in broth, couscous (450 calories)

Snack before bed: Glass of Hood Chocolate Milk (90 calories, 4 carbs)

I change it up but the calories and the protein/carbs/fat stay the same with each meal. On top of this, I burn 600-800 calories per workout. And I drink around 100 oz. of water each day. The only other thing I ever drink is coffee and occasionally alcohol. I haven't had a soda in years.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I guess you've proved that calories in does NOT always equal calories out. That much is plain obvious.

Girl, that is a damn austere diet! How do you get that dry shit down LOL. Put some damn butter on that english muffin for God's sake.

Have you looked into any alternative treatments for thyroid? There's gotta be stuff out there on the net to try, though you may have already gone this route.

Let's just hope the medication kicks in soon.

Lol!! I like butter but try to use it as little as possible. As you can see, my eating plan is just fine and would make anybody else thin as a rail. I don't have trouble with food, thank goodness! This is why:

When I was 15 I almost died and had emergency surgery due to internal bleeding. I had a HUGE ovarian (PCOS) cyst that burst and destroyed my right ovary and damaged the left. They removed the dead ovary and "tried" to repair the other damage. I spent the next two years in and out of the hospital and my kidneys almost completely shut down on me. This is when I decided that I wasn't going to die young and started an COMPLETELY healthy lifestyle. I was already an athlete (I still played sports during this) but ate typical teenage crap like sodas and candy bars so I cut them completely out and did extensive research on proper nutrition. My health eventually turned around and I was in awesome shape. This is why it was not a problem to go back go back to this lifestyle after pregnancy. I've eaten like this for 8 years and am used to it. I have had major issue with hormone imbalances since puberty. I was practially going through menopause at 15, and have taken estrogen therapy since the surgery. This lifestyle change is the ONLY reason I have my daughter. The docs said I'd NEVER be able to have a baby. I showed them!! :D

Anyways, I am pretty picky about what I put into my body so I have avoided any other treatment other than the synthroid until last week. I finally broke down and started looking at herbal treatments and am now taking Thyroid Support supplements along with the meds. I have found very good reviews about these supplements online so I'm hoping they help.

So have you been diagnosed with PCOS, then? That could be your problem. I know there are several PCOS women on this forum who struggle to lose weight. Margaret (Omega) has had great success at it, though.

I can't help but think that eating less than 1600 calories a day is too little for the amount your workout. It may very well have screwed up your metabolism--along with the thyroid issue. Your bmr alone should be about 1400 calories, then add the 600-800 that you burn off exercising, maintainance for you should be around 2000-2200 not including the calories you burn chasing your daughter around and doing housework, etc.

Well, have patience--hopefully the new meds will kick in soon and you'll be rewarded finally for your efforts.

BTW--congrats on proving the docs wrong in getting preggers. :)

Any news regarding getting custody of Wyatt?

My doc has kept the PCOS under control for 10 years and we have ruled that out as the problem. My estrogen levels are pretty much the same as they were before the pregnancy and I was thin.

I have tried cycling the calories due to my activity level and got nothing, nada, zilch. No matter what I burn, my body thinks it has to hold on to the bodyfat for dear life. I am praying the new meds help.

And yes, we proved my doc wrong and he is still baffled about my little Bella. I keep telling my H her has super sperm!

Our trial for custody is 3 weeks from today. She is still unemployed and broke and doesn't have a lawyer.

Just saying Hi and letting you know that I do still check in and read here! Did you start the new meds today???

Good news! 4 of the 5lbs I gained came back off! I guess I was retaining water more than I thought but DAMN I drink tons of it.

Awesome that you lost 4 of those pounds! See, I told ya you'd drop them fast. :D :hurray:

Good luck at the trial. So if the judge grants you custody, you'll be coming back with him, right?

I'm glad you got your miracle baby. :D

Yes, we should be coming home with him if the trail doesn't go over and get rescheduled to finish on another date. *fingers crossed*

Bella is my little miracle baby. This is why I'm so infatuated with her. I cherish every ounce of her!

Well I feel TERRIBLE! I just went through a drawer that has turned into H's dumping ground for my mail. And what did I find? A beautiful Christmas card from my friend Amy. Wah wah wah! I am so sorry I just received it now. That was so thoughtful of you and really, the card is lovely (if you can remember what it looked like :D). Thanks again for thinking of me over the holidays woman!

You're welcome for the card C!

2/21 is just the first trial where we will ask the court to order the psychological evaluations, home inspections, and file a motion for discovery on all her phone, financial, banking records. The the main trial will be 6-8 weeks later to determine custody. With all the dirt we have on this woman, this judge would be crazy to let her keep this child. He's also be putting his name/reputation on the line. She's disgusting.

I couldn't agree more with Mal. :)

How are you doing this week--besides busy as hell?

This week has been NUTS. KC kicked off on Saturday with a few small problems but overall it was a huge success. The structures have been built by all the kids and this week we are decorating for the big public debut on saturday. There will be news crews doing live broadcasts, entertainment for the whole family, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, pizza and tons of prizes. This is going to take place ALL DAY. Right now I am working on all the graphics for all displays and advertising. With the structures alone we have raised over 14,000 cans of food and will be taking more donations during the event. The exhibits will be on display for two weeks. Here are a few sneak peeks of the structures that were built. Keep in mind the space has not been decorated/prepared for viewing just yet!
