Starting Over

My BIL is getting married to an awesome lady. They are both officers in the Army and live in San Antonio right now but chose to go home for their wedding. My husband's grandmother has huge empty house on the beach there that we will all be staying at. We are going to have a "low country boil" and just hang out together. He has four brothers so it will be a big group and TONS of fun.

Such a tragedy.

On Sunday, Maj. Jim and Carrie Pedersen, along with Ashley, age 6, and Lucas, age 2, were returning from a weekend trip to Memphis when they rear-ended a semi-truck. The truck driver stopped abruptly when he realized that his truck would not make the overpass clearance height, thus causing the Pedersen SUV to run into the back of the semi.

Carrie, age 34, and Lucas died at the scene from injuries received in the accident that occurred shortly at 1200 on Sunday afternoon. Jim and Ashley were taken to a local Memphis hospital; Ashley was immediately placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Jim’s injuries were less serious and he immediately went to Ashley’s bedside to sit vigil.

A town hall meeting was called on Monday evening to relay information regarding the family and memorial arrangements.

This is a wonderful family that has been stationed here in LR with us for over a year now. This makes me sick to my stomach. How unbelievably sad.

hey well done! you are busting some serious ass!!! you are gonna be in that dress in no time...forget the pounds....YOU are losing inches!!! woohoo!!

keep it up!

Thanks Angel! I meant to respond to you earlier today but completely got sidetracked. How are you doing with the challenge?

That is so sad about the Pederson family. I hope the little girl makes a speedy recovery.

You'll be looking fab for the wedding. It does sound like lots of fun. Maybe Claudia and I should crash it. :D I lurve Savannah.

That wedding sounds like a lot of fun. I'm sorry to hear about that family.

Thanks Cannon. I barely knew these people. I talked to the mother at the kids' christmas party a few weeks ago for a few minutes, but that's pretty much it. My H was more familiar with the father through work. It's just so damn sad.

The wedding is going to be an absolute blast. My H's brothers are a riot! Plus I have some pretty awesome sisters-in-law and they come from all walks of life. One's a vet and a Major in the Army and is from New York, one is from China but works for Motorola in Chicago as a developer, and one is and from GA (fun as hell!). Then you have me, the Arkansas farm girl who is usually the butt of all the guys' jokes. Put this all together and you have a party!

you are the furthest thing from an arkansas farm girl... you have all your teeth right and don't chew tobacco? :D

Haha! Yes, I do have all my teeth and HATE chewing tobacco. I do, however, possess other "farm girl" qualities. I used to be an avid hunter with my father and can shoot and field dress a deer, I know how to vaccinate livestock, drive a tractor, build a fence, castrate a pig, cure meat, and can all sorts of things. "Survivor" has nothing on my family!

I was the only one in the entire history of my family to get a formal education and pursue a career in something other than agriculture. Don't get me wrong, my family's not a bunch of "dumb hicks". They are very intelligent people who now do quite well in agriculture, they're just blue collar type people.

wow you can castrate a pig? that must have made you really popular among the local males :)

don't piss off amy - look what she's done to that pig :)

Ha! Yeah I think it kept me from getting MANY dates.

I don't think my father even noticed I was a girl until I was 18. He made sure I did whatever my brothers had to do. And since we raised pigs for slaughter, the castration was something I unfortunately had to do. Kind of a "Silence of the Lambs" thing. Lol!!!

I like that I grew up the way I did. It showed me what "real" hard work is and that laziness is never an option.
