Starting a program for summer weight loss

Hey everyone I'm a 24 year old male and I'm 5'10" and currently weigh 230 lbs. I thought if I kept track in here it would keep me motivated. Right now I'm about 10lbs heavier than I've ever been which was about 4 years ago. I was about 220lbs then and started dieting and exercising and got myself down to around 190lbs. I kept my weight steady between 185-195 for the next 3 years until last year when I got mono and was down to around 170. A month or so after my mono was gone I was back around my normal weight at May of last year. By the end of summer I was around 200lbs and within the last year I put on another 30.

So today starts the diet and exercise to shed this unwanted weight. My goal is to get back to ~180-185. I just got back from walking/jogging 2miles and also lifted weights tonight for about 20 minutes. I am hoping to jog and lift 4 days per week. I have also started keeping track of what I eat at fitday. My goal is to keep my calories under 2000 per day. I guess that is all for now and I will keep updating as I progress.

Ok it's been a week now since I embarked on my weight loss journey. The first week has went fairly well except for the weekend. I had a friend and his wife come home to visit so I ended drinking a little too much. Other than that it has gone good. I've jogged 4 times since last week, approximately 2 miles each time. I have kept it under 2000 calories a day except for the weekend.

I only managed to lift weights twice last week so there needs to be some improvement there. All in all I'm down to 227 after the first week so I lost 3lbs and I am happy with that. Only another 40 or so to go.

Hi Devilbiss, Congrats on the three pounds already. Keep up the jogging and lifting and you'll do fine. The last few years I was in college (as a returning adult) and put on an extra few myself. So, that's why I'm here, too :). Stop in again soon!

Just got done with another 2 mile jog/walk. I'm hoping to be able to jog the whole 2 miles within 2 weeks and they slowly add on distance from there as last summer I was jogging this route easily without walking.

I'm doing good so far this week as I've jogged Mon,Tues, and today. Also lifted Monday and today.

The diet has been going good, keeping it under 2000 calories a day and eating healthy. I'll update again next Tuesday after I weigh myself again.

Thanks for the encouragement.

This week has been a good one. Went running 4 times and lifted on 3 of those days. I also kept my calories under 2000 for the whole week. I lost a whopping 7 pounds this week which really surprised me. I guess maybe I would have lost this much last week if I hadn't drank any alcohol. So this week I'm going to stick with the same goals for my workouts except maybe add a quarter mile or so to my jogs.

10 pounds down in 2 weeks so I'm currently at 220lbs.

You are doing great! That is a lot for just a week. Though, from what I read here sometimes starting out the weight loss is more during the first couple weeks.

It also sounds like you're sticking to your program, exercise and food, so that's a definite bonus!

Didn't run as much as I would have liked this week as I've had a busy week and it rained one of the days I was going to go. The diet is going well although I did it Taco Bell yesterday, which is the first time I've eaten any fast food in over a month so I'm ok with that.

Down another 3lbs this week so 3 weeks in and I'm down 13lbs.

Start weight: 230 Current Weight: 217
