Started bulking may 9th, have concerns.

I started bulking up for the summer on May 9th. I have been doing a full body workout three times a week and I have been taking in lots of healthy food and lots of protein. I have gained approximately three pounds since may ninth. I am 5 8 and 1/2 feet tall and weigh 149, I started at 146. I got my body fat checked professionally before I started bulking and I was at 9.9%. I am now 149 but the only place where I can notice that i've gotten bigger is my gut.

With my full body workout I hit all the major muscle groups.

With my diet I get a lot of protein, omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, and rarely eat unhealthy food.

Is this a common thing when bulking to notice your gut getting bigger, or is something going wrong? Am I gaining too much weight too quick? Someone please give me some advice and try to help me understand.

Thanks.

You can gain some fat with muscle, 3 pounds in a few weeks though doesn't sound extreme to me, could be your body is having a trouble processing all the food and you are a little extra bloated, happens a lot in bulks. Try upping the calorie amounts of your foods and lower the volume a little.

You can have a little bad eats on a bulk, just don't go crazy if you WANT to stay leaner during it.

~1lb a week is normal for a regular bulk. it could just be you thinking your getting fatter on your stomache, but its going everywhere. its just going to places you dont notice as well

man, i'm gaining way too much weight I think. It's not even been a month and i'm up like 5 pounds or so. I don't even feel like i'm eating a lot either. This is what my typical diet is:

breakfast:
7:30 am golean cereal with flax seed on top approximately 350 calories
banana 100 calories

lunch:
11:00 am 6 inch subway sandwich, club with double meat.
3:00 pm the other half of the sub.
calories 1200??
(sometimes I just have half the sub actually, I just started doing that in fact because I am gaining weight so rapidly)

Supper:
6:30 pm usually something pretty small always with protein included though.
example would be a whole wheat tortilla with chicken in it, some cauliflower and broccoli, and a pear.

that's all for the day. But i'm gaining weight like hell, way too quick actually. I got on the scale and weighed 155 pounds today! I weighed 146 on May 8th. In the morning i'll be back down to 151 or so, but still. What is up with this?

You haven't gained enough weight to start getting that much fat, you may well be a bit paranoid.

If you're sure you're gaining more fat than muscle then try setting up an account on and log absolutely everything you eat in a day and it will track what you're consuming (calories/fat/protein etc). You might find that you've been under-estimating the number of calories you're taking in which could explain the fat gain.

you are eating only 3 meals a day. eat more frequent, equally proportioned meals. i recommend 5 or more. of course you want to get more calories in the morning but otherwise, spread your calories throughout the day.

well i don't know if it counts as a meal but lately i've been eating a banana inbetween breakfast and lunch. I usually have a little something at 5:00 as well, fruits or veggies.
