Stair Stepper??

I have heard that using the stair stepper can actually makes your butt bigger instead of just toning, what do you guys think? I build muscle pretty easily and have been weary of doing the stair stepper though I would really like to tone my thighs and behind.....I would love some feedback on this topic :)
Thanks!

ONE CANNOT SPOT REDUCE FAT.

"Toning" as you're using it is impossible. "Toning" is nothing more than the process of shedding bodyfat from the entire body, to the extent that the existing muscle underneath becomes more defined because less fat is covering it.

Thus there is no real way to exercise for toning (you may have heard low weight and high reps help 'tone' a muscle...that's a myth).

Now, to your question: stair stepper is brutal, and works the lower body pretty hard. It is indeed possible to build some muscle in the glutes on this activity, but its not going to be significant. any increase in size would also result in an increase in firmness, and a nicer curve to the rump.

stairstepper isn't gonna give you a booty like J-Lo.

I also heard the same thing about doing the stairs and making your butt bigger. There are two kinds, one a stepmill (I think) this is the one that looks like a revolving staircase. The other one is the stairmaster with the pedals. I do them once in a while just to switch up my cardio, and incase it actually makes your behind bigger.

I agree it is a hard workout on your lower body. There is this one person I see at the gym all the time using the stepmill for about 45 minutes. She's solid alright, but I think the lower body is wayy to muscular for a female.

Going on that machine for 15 minutes is really hard for me, so I opt for doing liek 12-15 inclines at 4.0mph on the treadmill for my behind.
