Stage 1: The long road to the New Year

Hello there,

Fellow binge-drinker here too. I can totally relate when you say how you put the weight on as it's the exact same thing I did. I would binge drink all day long (eating only snacks to tide me over), and then at night I would eat whatever horrible, starchy greasy thing I could find so that I wouldn't be 'too' sick the next morning. Then the next day I would eat and eat to alleviate my hangover. That was usually my cycle. Drink one day, hangover the next etc, with a clean and sober day here and there when shit needed to get done!

I successfully cut down on my drinking when I started to lose weight. Mainly because I needed to get into the habit of healthy living and exercise. Then I phased it back in. So now when I drink I don't overeat too much, and I try to only drink socially (I used to drink alone at home most of the time).

Having said all that, I've been very busy and stressed the last two or three weeks and my drinking has taken an upturn again. I applaud you for having the courage to start the AA program, I don't think I would, but I'm afraid to say that I can see a day in the future when I may not have a choice.

Best of luck to you in your weight loss and in changing your life for the better.

Thanks for the positive vibe ;) It's scary how many people seem to have put on weight with the assistance of binge drinking. Six years ago I guess I used to have it in balance with physical activity, but recently I tended to drink because I was depressed about my weight. No point exercising as I was already to fat.

The AA program has helped me realise my reasons for drinking, and this website has made me see the benefits in not drinking. I used the fitday.com system to work out calories in my favourite drinks.... A hipflask of vodka is over my daily allowance :( A beer is the same as my evening meal. It's just not worth it.

If my plan is to work, then it must be alcohol free :Angel_anim:

PS: Congrats on such a huge weight loss! Looks like we have similar weights left to lose. :D

It's been a hectic day today. Got up early and managed a full out cardio session. An hour on the treadmill left my legs like jelly! I have left the basic program as it only goes to level 3 and that isn't enough to get me dripping wet. The new program adds peaks that have me full out running intensly at good intervals.

I was overwhelmed with job admin today (left it until Sunday afternoon again) so I forgot to have lunch (oppsss) and had a late dinner before heading off for my Meeting. During sharing time I spoke of my new found motivation and discovered two long-termers had stopped drinking and achieved (what I thought) were awesome athletic bodys through the same method. All very positive ;)

Breakfast: 1 egg omlette (no oil) + 1 multigrain bread (slice, no toping)
Morning Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Lunch: (Forgot to eat)
Afternoon Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Dinner: Mixed veges + 100g prawns
Evening Snack: Was late home from my meeting. Bedtime :(

Checked my calorie intake and it was to small. I need to organise myself a little better tomorrow to ensure I get all meals. Still didn't drink enough water :( I need to get a collection of those H2O bottles going!

Right, bedtime and early cardio tomorrow before work. Arms and sholders still sore from yesterday. Good feeling :D

Got up at 5.45 for an hour on the treadmill. I chose a flat curcuit program and put it to 7km which is a bit of a struggle for me but I stuck with it. I got stitches a few times but in time my body will get used to it. With a flat rate I noticed the calories burned went up which was great!

I had my first day back at work after my two week vacation. My new eating plan fits in perfectly with my job as I drive about 700km a week and stop often for breaks. The regular snacks and lunch have left me without any of the usual 'hunger pains' which is great.

Arms are still a bit sore, but should be ok for tomorrow evenings weight session. Already looking forward to it!!!!

Breakfast: 1 egg omlette (no oil) + 1 multigrain bread (slice, no toping)
Morning Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Lunch: 100g mixed veges + 100g prawns
Afternoon Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Dinner: Lean pork mince (120g) with onion, 1 egg and carrot. Mixed into a patty and fried with light-oil spray
Evening Snack: Still full from dinner so skipped and had 3 glasses of water instead.

Water intake still not up to scratch. Must get new bottle for tommorrow.

sorry I disappeared on ya, been crazy busy!!
Looks like you're doing great though. :hurray: glad to see your eating plan fits so well with work. Has your wife said anything about your new food and exercise plan?
Hope you're doing well today. take care!

Support is great man, especially if it earns you "damn, now I remember why I married you" points, but let me just add... DO THIS FOR YOU BROTHER!!! Do it all for you!! Will it improve your relationships... yes, will people be impressed... yes. But, know at the end of the day, you did everything because you are worth it!!! Ok, enough lecturing. Hope all continues well on the "Journey". All of it.

My wife is overjoyed. She's been on a fitness journey for some time now. She's mostly pleased that I've stopped drinking ;)

Thanks Dude! I AM doing it for ME foremost of all! I already see the difference that taking control of my life has made. I am feeling most positive than I have in years! Thanks again for the encouragement ;) Good to hear that you managed to workout even when you were away from usual routene!!!

The race is on: 79 days to go

I Thought i'd hit a wall today. I couldn't sleep last night (mind racing overtime without beer to shut it up) and I didn't manage a morning cardio. This almost ruined my motivation for the day, but then I remembered, it's only one day. I can pick things up again tommorrow!

Got home shattered and tempted to take a nap. I resisted the urge and instead did a 45min on the treadmill. Wow! That just powered me up and I had energy for the rest of the evening. Had a shot at my weight program but quickly realised that my arm and shoulder muscles are still repairing from an overdose on the first session. Managed to cope with 15 minutes worth of Dumbell curls and did 200 crunches on the ab-roller instead. Owwww!

Breakfast: 1 egg omlette (no oil) + 1 multigrain bread (slice, no toping)
Morning Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Lunch: 100g mixed veges + 100g prawns
Afternoon Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Dinner: Mixed vegetables, boiled
Evening Snack: banana

Taking an early night (9pm) and hopefully should be pumped up for tomorrow morning session! Yehaaa! :hurray:

Great job with this, very well done!

Doesn't it feel GREAT to keep self promises. It's kind of like introducing yourself to a "new and improved, motivated, lively self" if you know what I'm saying.

Paul, you're doing phenomenal. Remember it's all about consistency. You're kicking it hard and even impressing JZ (he's a little like the guy standing in the back of the galley with the whip telling us to keep rowing...).

Keep the faith...

:hurray: great job Paul!!! You're doing absolutely wonderful with this. Good to see that your wife is happy with your change in lifestyle. I know you're doing this for YOU not her, but it's always nice to have someone there that can help support you and keep you a little more accountable.

and Karl, I think it's less rowing, more over-all lifting. I don't get kicked if I stop rowing, but watch out if I skip a day of weights ;) oh what would we do without our wonderful JZ? :D

:iagree: You seriously are taking full responsibility and being quite conscientious! Way to go! Glad you're mindful of your macros and water intake :D Take care!

Day 62: Wednesday Evening (Only 78 Days left)

Another good day. I got up at 5.55am and got straight on the treadmill for 45 minutes before work. I went to 7km for most of the time and really broke a sweat! Great stuff!

God, I feel so awake in the mornings now after a good cardio!

Stuck to the 6 daily meals and never felt hungry once. I think I may have actually given up coffee too??? Managed to have 6 litres of water today through the use of two bottles and constant refills at my various stops.

Quick question: How much water am I supposed to have each day?

Calorie Intake:
Breakfast: 1 egg omlette (no oil) + 1 multigrain bread (slice, no topping)
Morning Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Lunch: Mixed veges + 50g prawns
Afternoon Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Dinner: Mixed veges + 100g prawns + lite sweet/sour sause
Evening Snack: protein shake with water

You probably noticed that I seem to eat the same things each day. What can I say, i am a creature of habit!!!

PS: Just noticed that my counter says I have reached my goal weight AND SOME! Opppsss I had lost another pound and changed the ticker... incorrectly. Seems it takes a while to alter itself, so don't go thinking I chopped of two legs and an arm for that achievement :D

Hey Paul, looks like you're still kicking a$$ and taking names with your morning cardio. great job! and hey, if eating the same thing works for you, have at it. I've never been able to do that, I'd rather cook something new for each meal. but I'm odd, so it's okay. :D
the usual rule of thumb for water is the 8 8oz glasses. I'm not a huge water fan, so I just drink as much as I can each day and cross my fingers. ;) I'd think 6 litres is pleanty though.
Take care!!

AWESOME! You're incredible! I also got up (at 6am though) and exercised this morning. Well, I did Yoga, but yeah--it makes me feel great too! I am so glad to hear you may have given up on coffee. I hate that stuff. Used to be addicted to it, but it screwed up my sleep, made me tired the next day, and set me on an endless cycle. Some of us just weren't supposed to drink that!

I heard this is a good method for dieting. Supposedly an array of delicious choices makes humans over-eat. Maybe true, maybe not--for me, probably! Nice work!

Paul, I totally relate to the work out right after you get up. I actually started that to kick the habit of lighting up a cigarette to wake up with. Now I'm hooked on exercise first thing.

My days start between 415-430am, yes, AM!! I have to get my workouts in before my kids get up and moving... well I wake them up to get ready for school anyways. I've found that it kick starts my day. I'm pumped for half of the morning, and it feels great. Way to stay on the path Paul... well done!

Day 63: Need more energy! (77 days remaining)

Another good start to the day. Up at half five for a 50minute session on the treadmill. God, my legs were like jelly afterwards! Had a hectic day but stuck to the plan throughout. :hurray:

I am starting to get really tired in the evenings. I am not sure if this is due to the cardio sessions or my restricted calorie diet? Either way, I need to start doing a second cardio every day when I get home. Today I got back, did some work admin and then kinda veged on the couch and watched a bit of tv. This is not the sort of habit I want resurfacing... At least i didn't think about getting a bottle of wine; something that sometimes occured on a lazy thursday evening.

Tomorrow is the start of weight program every second day (upper, lower, upper).

Breakfast: 1 egg omlette (no oil) + 1 multigrain bread (slice, no toping)
Morning Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Lunch: mixed veges + 50g prawns
Afternoon Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Dinner: Mixed veges + 100g prawns
Evening Snack: protein shake + Banana blended in! (Yum!)

Water intake was good today. Urine finally the right (transparent) colour :blush5:
