Stage 1: The long road to the New Year

Paul, I totally relate to the work out right after you get up. I actually started that to kick the habit of lighting up a cigarette to wake up with. Now I'm hooked on exercise first thing.

Scary thing is, I light up a smoke as soon as I am done on the treadmill each morning :puke: Once I have my routenes down for 2 weeks then I will try to kick the smoking habit too.

hey Paul, just dropping by to see how you're doing. looking good as always. With how much you cardio session helps you in the mornings, giving it a shot at night to keep your energy up might work. just make sure that you don't cut your calories too low with all the extra activity you'll be getting.
Best of luck with the weight training!!!
take care

Hey Paul, looks like you're still kicking a$$ and taking names with your morning cardio. great job! and hey, if eating the same thing works for you, have at it. I've never been able to do that, I'd rather cook something new for each meal. but I'm odd, so it's okay. :D
the usual rule of thumb for water is the 8 8oz glasses. I'm not a huge water fan, so I just drink as much as I can each day and cross my fingers. ;) I'd think 6 litres is pleanty though.
Take care!!

Thanks for the encouragement Shandy!!! Bit gross, but I have kind of discovered that the colour of your urine indicates the amount of H2O intake your body is getting. It should be transparent. If it is to yellow then I need to be having more water.

It has leveled out at about 5 litres of water for me, so I might make that my benchmark level ;)

AWESOME! You're incredible! I also got up (at 6am though) and exercised this morning. Well, I did Yoga, but yeah--it makes me feel great too! I am so glad to hear you may have given up on coffee. I hate that stuff. Used to be addicted to it, but it screwed up my sleep, made me tired the next day, and set me on an endless cycle. Some of us just weren't supposed to drink that

Thanks Curvie!! I have been trying to get my wife into the old yoga after hearing everyone talk about it ;) flexibility and all LOL

Yup, coffee is officially out of my life. I have replaced it with lemon tea which supprisingly is quite nice. Still, I do miss a coffee when I have my eveing ciggy :(

That has crossed my mind. I am on a 1100 calorie intake in order to achieve my target weight in the time I have allocated. It's not very much, but I never feel hungry. I am no expert on this, but I am now loath to eat food that takes me above this total. Hmmm maybe that's where the lull in energy is coming from

wow! !1100 calories?? that's no where near enough with all of the activity you're doing! hell I don't usually go below 1300 a day. that would most likely explain your drop in energy, yeah. I really think you should raise your daily calories.

My days start between 415-430am, yes, AM!! I have to get my workouts in before my kids get up and moving... well I wake them up to get ready for school anyways. I've found that it kick starts my day. I'm pumped for half of the morning, and it feels great. Way to stay on the path Paul... well done!

DZ, you impress me yet again. 4.14am !!!! I thought I was being committed with my new 5.30am starts. I am an amature next to the whip-toting personal trainer that is DZ :D You are truely an inspiration dude!

I have reached a week of doing this whole thing seriously. I think it is time to step things up, starting tomorrow ;)

Just doing what YOU are doing too... MAKING THE TIME.

Day 64: Friday Evening: Traditional Drinking night (76 days remaining)

I let myself down this morning. My body is tired and still not used to all the full-on activity. When my alarm went off, I did not. I woke up too late to do a morning session on the treadmill :(

I guess I needed a morning off....

Had a ok day food-wise. Water intake was just right and got loads of work done also due to the fact that the extra sleep recharged my batteries.

Breakfast: 1 egg omlette (no oil) + 1 multigrain bread (slice, no topping)
Morning Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Lunch: Banana
Afternoon Snack: 3 crispbread/crackers + tuna + onion
Dinner: 50g baked chips, 4 crispbread + marmite

Friday evening has always been my beer night for as far back as I can remember. I had an unusual dinner ( afew hot chips) to make up for the fact that I was 'missing out' on something that I normally have. Truth is, I don't really miss alcohol. I can stop thinking that one can of beer is the same calories as my dinner ;)

Spent the evening playing "Medieval: Total War" on the computer. A bit of a wasted night, but far better that what is normal for me.

Tomorrow I have a full on day. Weights, cardio, the lawns (a 2hr job in itself) as well as a mini-spring clean of the house ;)

Hmmm I think you could be right. I worked out that total from Liz's site where you input your target loss and then it tells you how many calories to restrict.... It's worked well since last week.... 9pounds lost so far

I may have to consider raising my allowance and doubling the cardio to make up for it ;)

Everyone has so so days... it's human nature. The good thing is you stayed spot on with the eating, and the NO ALCOHOL!!! Good job. Looks like tomorrow will be a busy day, so right back on the wagon so to speak.

Came by to check you out newbie! You are doing great so far, I love how much you are tracking food and getting in that exercise. Looks like you are on a mission! I love the 140days, sounds perfect. Cool ticker too!! Haven't seen that one yet.

That sux you smoke. It is a pain in the ass habit to kick. I smoked from age 14 to 19 and a half. However, I was a social smoker, or, Mooch, if you want to call it that. And quitting smoking makes some people eat more. Hopefully you won't be one of those people!

Some mornings I am too pooped to get up early and do am Yoga (flexibility is great, fo sheezy :D Uh but I don't have a sig other, nor am I dating so it's for my own benefit I guess ). In those cases, I know it is best to sleep. Do you have time to do workouts in the evenings? Have a good weekend!

Ha! you sound like me!!!

I used to light up at the end of a long bicycle ride!

Rode 54 miles off road once with some friends, took most of the day. I was DYING for a cigarette when we were done. Didn't even get my bike back onto the roof rack yet when I lit up. My buddies all looked at me like I had three heads...

Paul, when You are ready to give 'em up man, I'll be here for ya... Best thing I ever did!!! (besides marrying my wife and having kids)

Day 65: Saturday (75 days remaining)

Had a pretty good day today. It's so nice to wake up bright and fresh on a saturday morning with no signs of a hangover!!!

So many jobs today, my favourite being mowing the lawns after 2 months of lazyness. The grass was up to my waist at the worst areas down the treeline ;) It took me nearly two hours to finish, The first time with out the catcher, second time with to clean up all the clippings. Needless to say, I will count that as my cardio for the day. I was so exhausted I didn't have it in me to do my weights, so those are for tommorrow.

Got loads of work done and even managed time to sit outside in the sun for 15minutes to start a spring tan (my skin is so pale at the moment and needs to be eased in).

Breakfast: One egg omlette + slice of mix grain bread (no topping)
Morning Snack: 3 crispbreads + tuna
Lunch: Can of chilli tuna and Potato (small)
Afternoon Snack: 3 crispbreads + tuna
Dinner: Boiled egg and slice of toast (no topping)
Evening Snack: Protein shake + banana

Sorry, been a quick one, but have left it until late at night to update my journal. Tomorrow; weights, beach walk and finishing all my work jobs.

Day 66: No rest on the Sabbath! (74 days remaining)

Had a great day today! No hangover (i am starting to enjoy that feeling) and straight into my 50 minute treadmill session. Broke a really good sweat and didn't give it time to subside before jumping onto the weight bench. Great session:

Bench Press (6 sets) - arms and chest feeling much better. Great effort!
Standing Barbell Press (4 sets) - Still feeling a click in my shoulder. Didn't push to hard
One arm dumbell Rows (4 sets each side) - this one is so hard for me. Muscles I rarely use. I have always had back problems...
Bench Dips (5 sets) - Love these. Really felt the burn after each set!
Dumbell curls (6 sets) - My favourite. Moved into the lounge to do these with the stereo on full :) wohoo!

Wall Sit (roughly 8 min) - threw this in for ammusement. God my quads hurt! Great stuff!

Went to my AA meeting tonight and it was great to share the whole 'no drinking' thing. I have been going since august and had succeeded in 'cutting back', but this was my first completely clean week ;) Feels great! I have a mate there who used to be into the weights and we may get together for some sessions. Would be great to have a spotting partner to keep me pushing for one more rep each time!

Food Intake:
Breakfast: one egg ommlete + 1 slice whole grain bread (no topping)
Morning Snack: 3 crispbreads + tuna
Lunch: boiled egg + 1 slice whole grain bread (no topping)
Afternoon Snack: 3 crispbreads + tuna
Dinner: Mixed Veges steamed + 100g prawns
Evening Snack: protein shake + banana blended

Right, all accounting and admin done so off to bed by 10.30pm. One thing I have discovered with this new journey of fitness; I need my sleep!

holy cow Paul, 8 minutes your first time? now I feel like a wimp. I thought I was doing good for getting 3 minutes. :svengo:
Glad to see you're doing so well with not drinking. I think you'll get a bit more out of your weight lifting with someone there to push you a bit, so I'll keep my fingers crossed you can work something out with that buddy of yours.
Hope you have a good night and a great day tomorrow

EXCELLENT job man!! Way to kill it... with everything!! 8 minutes is great for a wall sit!!! Is 15 min the new challenge??? :D Great week... On to the next one RIGHT??!?!?!?!?

Super cool!

Yup looks like you're not going out and partying at all ;) That's a good thing--I went out and I went over in the calories. That's so cool you did such a long wall sit, WOW! You're impressive :D
