SRD - Self Massage

Just wondering if anyone else out there has had to go through with self massage?

After a few injuries my persoanl trainer advised me to use a "foam roller" for a self massage on all muscle groups on my legs, this didnt sound too bad so I turned up last night not thinking too much about it........OUCH! Ive never felt pain like it! Am I just a wuss or something? Ah well Im sure it will do me some good in the end!

Im currently working my calves, hamstrings, IT bands, glute's, thighs and inner thigh (cant remember what they are called).

Has anyone else had the pleasure of using these? and how often and how long do ppl use them for??

Cheers

No you're not a whimp. You are just in major need of this kind of work. Not to discount the rest of the muscles but the IT bands are killers especially if you run or bike. Try to hold your weight off the roller as much as possible to start and eventually go deeper by allowing your wieght to sink in more. Try using the roller twice a day. You'll notice after using the roller you will be able to stretch more easily too and you should stretch. It will aslo push the toxins and uric acid out as you roll upward on your body. If it feels good you need it if it hurts you need it more.

Thanks for that Hannah........after a fantastic 5 days of using the SMD twice a day the pain is becoming a lot more bareable, and sometime a little enjoyable (maybe im going crazy!). I have to admit though, my muscles have never felt so loose and stretching has become a lot easier.........Im thinking now that even when im fully fit and ache free I will still be incorporating this into my programme at least a few times a week.
