Squatting problem

Hey fellas,

I have this problem when doing squats...I can hear my ankles and knees cracking with each rep I do...is this normal? Will my joints adapt? I'm sure the cracking sound isn't good...so I want to investigate it.

Is it because I weigh 195lbs? Or do I have some sort of knee problem?

I've tried:

Feet shoulder width apart with toes straight forward.
Feet shoulder width apart with toes slightly angled to the sides.
Feet wider than shoulder width apart with toes straight forward.
Feet wider than shoulder width apart with toes slightly angled to the sides.
I keep all the pressure on the rear (or ball) of my foot.

I don't know what to do, should I discontinue squats for the time being or what?

:(

Thanks.
Eric

Does it hurt or hurt afterwards do they feel weak? If it doesnt do any of those things I wouldnt worry too much about it

That doesn't sound good to me.

I would check your alignment. Make sure you don't have any posture issues like a leg length differential.

"I keep all the pressure on the rear (or ball) of my foot."

I wouldn't keep the weight over just the heels either.

How long have you been doing squats? How much weight are you using? Maybe you just need to adjust.

Maybe it is some form issue, and maybe its just nothing to worry about :)

Does it hurt when you squat?
Does it happen when you do body weight squats?

If it's painless and happens when you're squating without added weight then I doubt it's a problem, I'd still train if my joints cracked a little without pain

Thanks for the replies,

I am only doing body weight squats atm. The cracking is painless...I will keep doing them for a while and see...I will try with a little added weight to see if it causes problems too.

Thanks again

:D
