Sparrows Experiment

Thanks Stingo. I've been very amiss and unable to write in many journals lately because of my weird computer! I'll be visiting yours again soon!

Today I did spin and ran my intervals coupled with shoulders and leg weights. I met with my running coach (very weird to say) who FLOORED me with his feedback. He used "natural", "runner" and "talent" in the same sentence...which is not how I regard myself at ALL. He told me that if I really trained I have no idea how fast I could get. He told me that very few people can run as little as I do and get the results that I do. It was a very weird conversation because I have never, and do not think of myself as "a runner". He's trained some very respected elite runners and age groupers in the area so I was grateful for his feedback but it scared me a tad! he's going to draw up a training plan in black and white so I can actually see if its something I might want to pursue.

Anyway, I was tired today. Running the intervals actually stunk really bad. I worked abs yesterday and it was my core that was making me fatigued!

Tomorrow I'm taking the day off and Saturday will be that 14 miles I ditched last week.

Sparrow, what is your next scheduled event?

So make sure you do more core work! you're core is everything :cheeky:

I wasn't feeling my workout today either. I knew frmo the first step it wasn't going to go well. My tibialis anteriors are killing me and even during a 5 min warm up they were throbbing. I managed 2 miles, stopped, stretched and ran 2 more. I am going to ice big time tonight. that 30 min 4 miler yesterday really took it out of me.

G8r-my next one is March 7th. Its a half marathon.

Fire-Yeah I do keep up on my core exercises pretty well but yesterday I did a few things I don't normally and it made me sore...so those muscles weren't supporting as well.
How far you up on your long run now?

Supposed to be at 18 this Sunday. We'll see. My lower legs are truly unhappy to be put to such repeated use. I have 2.5 months left to get ready.

Have a pain in the lateral part of my left ankle, my shins hurt, my calves still feel funky and my knees are taking a pounding. I keep working as nothing is to the point of severe pain, but I need my legs to get their act together quick.

Shoot, you have more than enough time to get that 18-20 miler in. IMO I think your body is screaming for REST! You won't even MAKE it to your event if you don't get some down time to heal up! You should complete your 20 miler a month out from your event and taper down very gradually from there. Go get a deep tissue massage or something!

Well I had probably the worst run of my life this morning! I didn't have high hopes but I was giving it the benefit of the doubt. I have had the WORST eating this week. I've been completely off my "plan" and haven't been meeting my calories all week. it made a HUGE DIFFERENCE. I also was not careful about my water and was drinking diet soda and coffee throughout the week! Some people are probably like "so what" but for me it makes a tremendous impact on how I function athletically.

it was a challenging day anyway due to the wind. VERY hard to run almost half of our 14 miles stright into the wind. I eventually just turned off my garmin because it was so pathetic. The goal then became survive and get back to my car!

I weighed in at 128 this morning before the run (pretty low for me) and 125 after the run. I was clearly dehydrated, and brought no back up. I'm sure I violated most of the "what not to do as a runner" list between this week, and the actual run.

well anyway, I completed it in the 2 hours I had and I've had a hard time getting back to "normal" the rest of the day! CLEAN EATING IS NOT OVERRATED! I'm going to make a bumper sticker or something.

never leave your best performance on a training day! It doenst sound like there is any threat of you doing that with this work out.

No worries..... we all have good and bad days,.... you showed up, you ran 14 miles, and you logged it!

VERY FEW can say that darling! You are an athlete, you are coinsistent, you are FOR REAL and you are a champion!!!!

mucho respect.

Yeah I am considering altering my workout plan. I'm going to work something out tonight and post it up with the 20 miler falling in around 1 months prior to race day. I did NOT run the 18 on Sunday. Ran 7.something. 2 miles on paved surface and the rest on gravel/grass/dirt. Felt much better afterwards.

I've found that my diet also deeply affects my workout either later that day or the following day(s). Last Thursday I was beat up and could not even muster the energy to finish 7 miles. I did 2 2-mile runs. I blame my Wednesday eating (with a few beers thrown in there), dehydration (probably from the beers on Wednesday) and poor nutritional value of the meal (firehouse dinner wednesday night and pizza thursday for lunch). I'll buy that bumber sticker...as long as it has a picture of you in some hot running gear too. ;):luxlove:

Lots going on and I've had a good week training wise. Diet is back on track too and Ilm still keeping the newest weight loss. I have been tapping into my speed more these 2 weeks and its a fun different kind of workout this week I did a track workout tues. Of 8x400's with 200 jogs between. I was supposed to hit 1:37 on the 400's but I did between 1:29-1:34. -t was exhausting stuff.
Yesterday I swam
today I did a spin class 4 mile tempo run and weights
I'll swim tomorrow and run 10-12 on sat

yep. here I sit at the coffee shop. Sucks.

I have been doing all internet-y type stuff from either here or my husbands iphone..which can take FOREVER!

Today I took the day off. Tomorrow I'll run 12 with the running group and Sunday I'm running 7.5. I've not been doing consecutive days so that should be interesting. A friend can't do her long run on Saturday and she needs moral support to run her 15 on Sunday. I told her I'd get her half way. lol.
