Sparrows Experiment

Still feeling sub par. Woke up with the nausea/light-headed thing again and had to sit a few times to get it to pass. No I'm not pregnant.

I thought I'd run today. I started some HIIT stuff and was thrashed from the beginning. What is UP with me??! I did 10 min warm up at 10 min pace and then 3 min at 8:00 pace, 3 min 10 min pace. After 20 minutes of this my heart rate was at 160 (this is super high for me) and I was shaky and sick feeling. I stopped and got something to drink and felt like I might either throw up or pass out. so I went and sat down a little while. Determined still I went to do some stairs. Got 10 min into that..same feeling came. So I quit feeling pretty defeated. I've not had a good workout yet this week and I've hardly done anything to warrent it :(

Maybe your body's trying to fight off something?

maybe you ran 17 miles and didn't take a day off. :eek2:

that avie--- ohmy!!!!!!

It makes me want to smash you in the face with a volleyball or seomthing! :hug2:

I did! I took 2 whole days off! Thats like forEVER :D

Thanks FF, you're always so complimentary. lol

Wow Sparrow, I like the new avatar, you're a real hottie :luxlove:

aww y'all just like me for my sunglasses :) I have to say, they are the BEST pair I've ever owned. I'm going to get more this summer, or at least switch out some lenses.

Spin class was big ol hills today. This T/TH teacher is a real spin nazi. She just loves hills. We're hardly ever on the flats and if we are, we're sprinting (which means the resistance is still high). I woke up zapped agian but I gave spin a try with some NUUN (electrolytes) and that helped a LOT. no kidding FF, maybe thats part of my problem. After spin I did 3K in the pool--->

300warm up
6x100 (25 swim/50drill/25swim) @ 1:50
16x100 IM (odds-double best stroke, eliminate weak stroke, evens-double weak stroke, eliminate best stroke) @ 1:50
5x100 kick
cool down

felt weak and heavy in the pool today but I've hardly been in, so what do I expect.

Saturday I'm going for a long run and a long ride. The run is with tri class on the trail (where the next race will be) and the ride will be alone. Its kinda like eating my veggies before I get my treat :) I love that bike.

you is showin sum magr stryds n yuse endoyance girly girl

eat more pickles

FF

OMG,

its final I'm so putting that on the back of all my race shirts this season "EAT MORE PICKLES" hahahahahaha. maybe I'll even make it a bumper sticker

you rock FF

ps-give me some numbers for this weekend. In light of what you know i've recently been doing, and my near future goals I need a number for a long run, and a number for a long ride. My next half is exactly a month away. Keep in mind..I do have to show the whites of my eyes to my family for some length of time at least once that day :) I'll be doing the run first on the river trail and there will be a break between them since I'll be coming back home for the ride.

I attempted to finish my weights today. I've only been able to do a few each day. I have no time for them anymore! :(

I went to pilates class (taken from the nazi spin instructor..shes nazi pilates instructor too!) which was heaven. It was a nice step back from the rush-work-hard-sweat-buckets type of workout. However, it wasn't easy.

After pilates was when I tried to do some more weights...and then got stopped by a tri friend who needed advice on something and, well, there went all my time. errrr. I can feel my strength dwindling :(

Coached after that and I got in for some of the time. I came up with a creative, fun, but hard workout:

300 warm up
6x75 reverse IM order swim/kick/swim by laps

8x50 choice-so I made them pair up faster swimmers with slower swimmers. While 1 swimmer was doing the 50 the other was out on the deck doing front plank. When the swimmer in the water touched the wall they got out to plank and the other swimmer hopped in and did a 50. We made it a sort of relay otherwise I could see them swimming VERY slow just so they didn't have to get out and plank again :) It was FUN. Planks don't phase me anymore since I have abs of steel. lol I'm kidding. But really I do them so much that I had to find variations like taking a leg away or rocking back and forth in the plank position so that I could get the ab fatigue. Its my SWIMMING that sucks lately. I need more pool time.

Long run, long ride tomorrow-at least thats the plan right now

The half is no longer a distance event for you; it is smply a race. Only one leg of your EVENT. Keep that mind set and you can decide 2 days prior how much you want to give to it. I believe you are shooting for a sub 1:45 and that is a major achievement. SO- keep things in the "base" mode. No building, and this week was recovery. My recommendation is think it terms of effort and time, verses speed and distance.

So- maybe 120 and 60. 120 minutes on the bike at an RPE 3-5 (mid level effort) and 60 minutes of RPE 5-6 Run, Split the run into 2 30 min sections for optimum results. By the 3rd training session of the day, you will be heading out on tired legs, and that is good mental training.

how you like me now?

I am 40 today, and I got a camelback 100 oz'er. yeah baby! headed to the dropzone for some jumpin, then I will attempt to eat my weight in cake., enjoy your workouts.

Eat more pickles - hahahaha

Went with a group to the river trail. I was running with some big dawgs and determined to keep up. The day was beautiful and it was great to be back on the trail that i will know so well after the season is over. The total mileage if it is 64 miles :) its fun and full of both a flat section, and hilly section. The best of both worlds.

Anyway, I wanted to go like 12 today but everyone was going to go 8 so I treated it as my tempo run. I figure this is a "recovery" week anyway. It went by very fast. Went out 31 minutes, came back 33 minutes. It ended up being a 7:58 pace. It felt good till about 6 and I could have used some gu and water at that point. I dug in my heels and just kept my pace. I maintained and even semi sprinted that last mile at 7:30 pace.
A few minutes later I wanted to go again, I felt totally recovered

Grabbed some starbucks with a friend, downed a protein bar and came home to get on my bike. My family was at the park so I just did a quick 8 mile loop and met them there. Thats all I could do today without rocking the boat (with the family). I pushed the 8-as measely as it was and maintained 23 mph. with a nice headwind today.

Headed to the gym to play some tennis with my hubby later. Hoping the wrist holds up.

Its been a nice day. I'm not tired today! this is the first day in over a week I haven't felt completely dead upon waking. I'm taking advantage of it!

I'll try to do that 120 min bike tomorrow

This is what I see everytime i look here:

Dear Diary

Today I ran to the moon and then did jumping jacks to touch the stars. It felt a bit light so I did a quick bike ride to peru.

Tomorrow will be a real workout.

Love, Sparrow

LOL, yer so cute D :luxlove: Some days everything just clicks. Lucky for me it was a Saturday and I had time for it :D

Another non fatigued day! hooray! Maybe i'm outta the woods for now. Got up, went to church and..well I actually ditched church to go on a coffee date with my little man. Hes had some behavioral issues lately (very very sensitive kid..major mommas boy) so I wanted to see what was up with that. Got him talking over a frap and muffin :) Give a boy food and he will share anything with ya :) lol. Taking my daughter out to lunch because she got a certificate from school for doing something good...and then later I have a coffee date with a friend. SO all of that is to say that ride isn't going to happen today. Which is okay. Some things are more important :)

I feel in good space right now. This week I'm going to be doing a few extra tempo runs. My speed is a little slack. 7:58 pace yesterday was pushing which is a little slow for a push. However, I hadn't run ALL week since the 17 miler. Hoping to get in 2 good swim sessions and spin 2 times along with my weights. Getting OUT on my bike is the hardest thing to find time for. However, I really feel like spinning is keeping me in the loop with the endurance. The past few times I've been on the bike I've felt awesome and its not a lack of fitness issue there. I'm riding 2-3 mph faster than last year.. I'm confident I could stay out for a distance and be fine. Now to find the time.

Spin class-HR monitor is helping a lot in spin. It makes me work much harder. I can get into the 140s pretty easily but past that is a lot of hard work.

45 min lifting
2K swim in 30 min

tri class did a "brick" today but it was small. Tri class isn't very challenging for me anymore but its fun to be social sometimes. I've been going through some tough stuff in my family life so I appreciated the friends today

30 min mountain spin (no hills-MOUNTAINS) the point was to waste our legs
30 min run like this:
1 min threshold pace 8:30 for me/1 min anaerobic threshold 7:50 today
1min (8:30/2min (7:50)
1/3
1/4
1/5
1/4
1/3
1/2
1/1
It was all challenging yes but not horrible. I could have gone an hour doing it over again. I did some weights after that and I'm disappointed in how weak I am becoming compared to NROL days. I cannot keep up NROL, nor is it wise during tri season but I have to figure out this balance with the weights. My upper body is looking a lot more lean lately too..all those muscles are disappearing. :(

Decided to be anti-social and head for the pool today. It wasn't as much fun as I hoped. I feel out of swim shape

2700 yds of various things.

Katie,

You have no weaknesses! You could do a 70.3 tomorrow!

Richard

Ah thanks Richard, always a willing cheerleader :luxlove: I think I could agree with you BUT (and its a big BUTT-hahaha) I couldn't finish right now and do it with a faster time than FF is about to do at Disney (okay I'm being way too humble right now darn it, must be the pastors wife in me, lol) It would be enough to finish but more than enough to do it aspiring to whoop FFs booty-which is the whole point right? lol :D So much for humility :D hehe

Okay just cause I have time and I'm interested lets say I do that 70.3 right now at my current level of fitness and in the current 75ish degree weather conditions (one could dream eh ff?!)
Swim-1.2 miles is 2000yds swimming which I could do in 30 min comfortably as long as I swim in a straight line!
transition-swim to bike takes a little longer but there's no wet suit, so, lets say 4 min just because
bike-56 miles. This is a hilly course and I'm not confident on my comfort level on my bike for that long so lets be conservative and say 16 mph average. that sounds so low and pathetic but it may be realistic. So thats 3hrs 30 min.
transition-bike to run is faster-but lets say 3 minutes cause I'm "really tired"
run-probably hating life at this point but I'm stubborn so I click into a 10 min pace average with the hills. Thats 2:10
Finish=6:17 a respectable time for a first half for sure and maybe doable if the weather wasn't going to decide to be a thousand degrees that day. The heat is where I'll suffer.
