Sparrows Experiment

Hey, that's cheap compared to what you could have done to your feet without 'em. Congrats on the new treads. YOU"RE WORTH IT! I have to fight with my wife periodically to get her to do stuff for herself too. You dang women are always thinking of others, lol. Take care and enjoy the shoes.

ah thanks for the justification :) I'll use it.

So I haven't used my cool shoes yet, but they're super comfy. Its weird tho. My old Asics were 9's and when put up next to the new ones they look a whole half size smaller. I wear 9's normally but I had a hard time deciding between an 8.5 and a 9 with these. The 8.5 was comfortable but I was worried that with running I'd be smackin my toe at the front of the foot too much. The 9's are a tad big but feel wider for my orthotic inserts. What was your experience with sizing FF? no need to have more shoe than I need if I don't need it. I can still take em back to exchange for the smaller. hmmm. not sure

Today I took the day off. I subbed for tri class and I ran a swim clinic from the deck for the whole 2 hours. a quarter of that time was just pure core land work specific for the pool. They hated me at the end but they were still thanking me over and over for the torture :) For triathletes some of them sure are whimps!

My decision of the day off was because my legs are very tender from whatever I did yesterday. I did a 3K swim last night after the run in the morning but because it was on the treadmill for the 6 miles I think I got a little hurt. I really hate the treadmill. Anyway, diet is right on and very clean, and the attention to detail with it has put me in a higher calorie range, which is good for me. I need to get to some weights this week.

You wear a size 9?!!! FF wears a size 11?!!! No wonder I can't swim... my feet are smaller than a cocker spaniel's feet!

lol. nice try :D

Today Spin 45 min 5 mile steady jog-8:45 pace-just for FF. Shoes are awesome. Can't wait for my 12 miler on Saturday.

I just read in Runners World that you can actually replace an hour intense spin class for a long run if you can't get out there to do it. WOW thats good to know!

You know what'd be supercool? My the end of the year, we should both run in the same marathon. Just gimme some time to get up to speed.
It'd seriously rock, and its the motivation i need to get into shape.

okay....We've got the California International Marathon the first weekend in December.....

...or the P.F. Chang Arizona Marathon January 19 2009 ;) Take your pick ;)

Slept in a bit today and that made a big difference. Thought about going to tri class and then ditched em and went to spin instead. My fav instructor is T/TH-the one who does massive hill intervals. Today was no different I had my self-named lake under my bike by the end and my legs were fried. I didn't cool down with them, I went right into a 4 mi run:

3 min warm up (although I was plenty warm)
30 sec 100% effort
30 sec easy trot
1 min 100%
1 min easy
2 min 90%
2 min easy
3 min 80%
3 min easy
4 min 70%
4 min easy
2 min 2.5% incline
2 min 3.5% incline
2 min 2% incline
2 min 4.5% incline
2 min cool

This was actually pretty hard for me. My 100% was 7:45 pace which is slow for a 100%
90% was 8 min pace
80% was 8:15 pace
70% was 8:30 pace
All of these were challenging today my legs were toast. Mental games to push through helped a lot. I'm getting much better at the mental toughness.

Saturday I'm heading north to my race site for my long run. I'm basically just going to do the run and see what I come up with at a talking pace. I'm looking forward to it.

Happy Valentines Day to all, I hope you guys have plans for your ladies. My husband was slick and *seemed* like he had totally forgotten V-Day and I wasn't going to make a big deal over that since he's had a lot on his plate lately. However apparently we have reservations somewhere cool and he's planned out a night-he even called in at the beginning of the week to arrange a sub for work for me tonight. Too cool ;)

Swam a little before teaching my class and then swam the workout with them:

500 free, 400 IM, 300 kick, 200 pull, 100 drills
300 free (their warm up)
400 pace (mine: 1:25 average pace per 100)
4x100 pace hold 1:25 with .15 rest
300 pace (hold 1:25)
3x100 pace (hold 1:25)
200 (hold 1:25)
2x100 (hold 1:25)
6x50 25 kick/25 backstroke @ 1:00
cool down
4000

This was a great workout, although I was really tired from last nights late night and bad food ;) . I'd like my goal "pace" to eventually be about 1:22 or lower but for now this is great for me. I'm only getting in the water 1-2 times a week right now.

Tomorrow I'll run a comfortable half marathon at my my race site for "practice". Race is in 2 weeks from tomorrow.

wow!! that is a pile of meters to swim. Good grief! I aint no swimmer. I will be doing some tonight.

HEY CHICKY! do me a favor- Negative split that run, in 3rds, first four slower than the second, second slower than the third, then ease up and cool down in that 13th mile, thinking all along - ABOUT ME! ;)

I will, but I'm not racing it. I'm going to go completely on my percieved effort so I know myself during the race. In any endurance sport I do I tend to be able to lock into a pace and stick there, to the second even when things get hard my body will readjust and find that pace regardless. This has been good and bad because once I get to that locked in pace its VERY hard to break free. negative splitting it tomorrow will be great for that. It'll make me mix it up. I'll only look at my watch every 4 miles.

Got the pic. How cute you guys are in your widdle helmets. aww. hahahaha. I especially like Richards purple hue. Very nice.

ha. I'll be visiting the journals to see how it went. FIRST I have to write some terrific news. We went up to Chico today for the day. SO fun. My kids played at the park and rode their bikes as I ran my 13.1 dress rehearsal run for the race that'll be there in 2 weeks. I know the course because I've ran the race before. This was the first time in my new shoes on the road.

I've been unusually tired the past week but last night I went to bed super early after downing a few cups of airborne and extra vitamins. I woke up good to go.

We didn't get to Chico until noon but that didn't phase me. I ate a PB sandwich on the way and had iced coffee to see how that would settle race day. I've been caffeine free now for a good 3 months. I've had nothing but herbal tea and water :) The caffeine made me CRAZY and it was only 8 oz! lol

okay so I'll cut to the chase. I went out comfortable and actually pretended this was the race. I'd intended to kick back and just do the distance...but how many times have I been able to do that so far and not compete with myself? so I ran like I wanted to. I looped the park once (6.5 mi) and looked at my watch at around 5.5 miles (sorry FF, I totally forgot about the negative splitting plan). I was at 42 minutes. wayyyy fast but I figured I'd probably drop off in the next loop. I felt so great up till then. My breathing was even, my pace was easy, my legs didn't hurt. The only thing that was a little achy was my core.

Started in on the second loop. Got water at 7 miles, again at 9. At 10 I had to start pulling out the mental games, time was 1:15. Felt great between 11-12 a a burst of energy hit me. More mental games 12 till the end. Hit my watch at the end exhausted and didn't look at it until I found my family and got in the car guzzling water. I was afraid to look :)

As you can see....1:42:06!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sat there with my mouth open staring for a good few minutes. NO WAY. Yes way, I did it! I beat my goal, I far exceeded my expectations on a PRACTICE RUN! My official best time ever has been 1:51. Unofficial is 1:49 and that was with a LOT of intense training. I feel like I've hardly done any running for this thing compared to that. I'm not sure what I did next but it caught my husbands attention and let me just bask in the moment rambling on and on about how the run went, how I felt where and junk. If nothing more comes of this race in 2 weeks I can rest well knowing I got the time I want and I can be happy. REAL happy. :D

Oh one more thing...after that we went to pizza and then we were passing The North Rim shop where some bikes were. Off the bat one caught my eye. A 51cm TreK Equinox time trial bike. OH MY GOSH it was SO beautiful. I got on and they let me take it out. I fell in love. It was SO comfortable, totally fit me and was everything I'm looking for. The aero bars were adjustable and SO fun to ride with. It was so encouraging since I've had trouble finding "THE" bike, to know they are out there...just a little more penny pinching to go and I'll find it.

I can't leve ya like that.

Caffein free for 3 months- hmmmm. I am affraid to try. It is my primary food group.

To read about yor run makes me sooo happy, and porud..... I can honestly say, at your race I am pulling for you to shave 5 minutes... and expect that you will probably cut a clean 3 off no problem. YOU being better and faster than me, makes me happy. JUST KNOW THIS- I WILL LAST LONGER THAN YOU. ;)

Care for your parts. Ice them today. Make sure and get some potassioum colinate running in yer blood. water water water............

RYAN- there is a lucky man- to sit there and lsiten to HIS wife- "an athlete" go thru their mental download after a run like that has to be amazing. HE was definatle head over heels at that moment, should of asked him to just get youthat bike right then. Then you could have rode it home for a brick. hahaha

I thought of you running alot yesterday,

to be a 'peer' of yours is a goal of mine!
