Sparrows Experiment

Hey, Katie, jolly good show! I can't even imagine a half marathon at this point, but I can't even image walking around the block at this moment (as I'm rubbing quads that are on fire...)

Was that bike the Trek Equinox 5. I think that was the one that Todd was looking at.

That bike would definitely serve you well! If you can pull off getting an upgrade on the rear derailleur to an Ultegra for a few extra dollars ($20 maybe?), that would be worthwhile, otherwise, the 105 would be fine.

yes thats the bike! but it was a silver one. beautiful. It was marked down... only 1050, I thought that was reasonable.

Todd...thats not a Garmin. lol. Thats an dinky little ironman watch I'm using until my stupid Garmin GETS here. It wa backordered from Christmas. STILL not here! errrr.

Thank you for your supportive words everyone. I was reallllly proud of myself. It hurt like crazy at the end. I'm not sure I could do 3 min off....but then...I didn't think I'd break 1:45 in my lifetime either :)

The difference between a practice run like that and the real thing is that I get hypersensitive at the race. I conserve out of caution way more. I knew I could stop and walk and drink and whatever yesterday..if I wanted to...cause nothing was riding on it. At the race I'll be more paranoid to put my neck out like that. I knew I was going "too fast" yesterday but it didn't hurt, wasn't winding me and I just let it be. At the race I'd probably opt to slow down. I've always gotten better practice times than performance times. Thats why I have a 1:49 unofficially...that was a practice long run like this one before the race I did 1:51. I've always been that way in swimming too. I'd get 25 seconds on a 50 in practice sprints and then go do a 27 in the race. THATS why I was glad I did it yesterday. In case this same pattern follows and I do worse at the race, I already know I've done the time.

Ryan IS awesome, fo sure. He even stuck around to listen to the lady talk to me about the bike, answer my questions, he held it while I got on to see how it fit and everything...without a roll of the eyes even! lol. Hes comin around ;)

..oh and Todd...I wanted to clarify...were you looking to be a "pee-er" of mine or a "peer"..cause between the water guzzling 4 and 6 yr old...I have enough pee-ers over here :) and you should know you as the "peer" has already been achieved.

Nice run Sparrow. Your persistance and dedication paid off. I ran a few on the treadmill this weekend and can't ever imagine 13. Keep up the good work. Take care, Greg

I don't know :( If I had the money NOW I would in a heartbeat. I have a deal with my husband regarding it and our tax return and they're holding the bike for me until I'm there for the race in 2 weeks. we'll seeeee. Its sooo BUTIFUL :D

Back to NROL today. We bumped back to fat loss 2 instead of 3. The 3 was a little too much for us while we're nearing some intensity with tri training. We also got our best results on Fat Loss 2 but didn't stay with it long enough cause we were curious about FL3. Haven't lost much strength in the few weeks we've been "between" lifting programs so that was good to note. 3x12 set up today.

Squats (130) superset with-
wide grip seated row (80) (this was easier than I thought it should be)

barbell push press (60) superset with
supine hip extention w/leg curl

dynamic lunges 95 (probably could go up next time) superset with
upper body russian twist

Then I did a 3000 swim like this:

500 free, 400IM, 300kick, 200 pull, 100 skull drills
12x100 free (push it) with rotating breaststroke lap
3x100 kick w/fins under water fast
cool down

Still in somewhat of a recovery mode from the run on Saturday but tonight or tomorrow I'm going to run 6 at pace +1min. Feeling strong, way less sore, and taking my airborne!

Spin class today. I'm very sore from yesterday's NROL. I had trouble initially sitting on the saddle. Pretty bad. I did what I could. I need to run tonight. I'm going to try hard to do 6 no matter how slow it is.

I only got in 3 miles last night at a nearly 11 minute pace :(. I can't run. Then did 15 min stairs and 10 eliptical. Shins hurt, muscles were soo fatigued it was ridiculous. NROL FL2 B today and that was it. I need some recovery and a nap. I'm really super tired and feel off my game. Time for a different kind of mental toughness in this countdown.

OMG I checked into my mailed in registration for the half ironman in August. I'm posted as a 31 year old since it goes by what age you'll turn between race day and December. arg...thats 30 on its way to 40 :( I like the round 30 number better, its closer to 29. :D. This paired with my crippled 11 min run is making me feel old today. I think I'll go take a nap now...but first I need to take my back pill...

Swimming with Masters class today-I don't care how many there are there. My hamstrings are still SO sore and SO tight. Thats my biggest complaint. They actually kept me up half the night. My plan of action today is drown myself in water, maybe soak in an epsom salt bath, stretch, eat balanced and bribe my husband into a massage that hurts before turning in early to catch that missed sleep...

As for running. I'm only going to run in 2 mile spurts every other day until race day. All I need to do is feel the road, nothing is going to change between now and Saturday fitness-wise...unless I push too hard! lol.

Swim workout today:
300swim
12x50 hypoxic breathing, breathe every: 3,4,5,6,7,8,8,7,6,5,4,3,2 and count strokes to see how it changes.
main set: 3 times through:
50 free .10 rest
50 free/50 breast .15 rest
50 free/50 breast/50 back .20 rest
50 free/50 breast/50 back/50 fly ,25 rest
repeat
sprints if time
cool down

hey darlin-

how about this? you take a minute and right down what you have done with those lovely legs since they gave you that "wonderful" performance? Have you appreciated them, or did you get thrilled and demand MORE of them. Legs have feelings too.

and next race- you will say to them "Gimme more," and what if they say- "why should I, last time you just beat on me more?"

Take a Day off!

Okay I'll do it "outloud" and no, I wasn't nice to them...

Sunday-day off
Monday-spin class
Tuesday-NROL fat loss 2 (squats and deadlifts and stuff), 3K swim
Wednesday-spin, run 3 miles, 15 min stairs
Thursday-NROL only
Friday-swimming

I think I would have actually been FINE after that run had I not decided to pick up NROL again this week. It was after Tuesday that I was REALLY sore-to this extent sore. Thursday's NROL wasn't more aggravating. I went lighter on the weights and was just trying to work out some of ths soreness with the same movements in lesser weight. I guess I count a lifting day as a day "off" to me, which was yesteday.

Anyway, yeah thats that. I'll swim today and then be easy from here on out-real easy. I have a good 8 days to work this out, I'm just hypersensitive I guess.

adding note that swimming was awesome. There were a few tri guys there who are really great swimmers and I kept up with them. I was doing 33's on my 50 frees in warm up. It was a great workout and I stayed competitive but mindful not to kick too much. Kinda let the legs just "be" there which made my upper body and rotation work a lot harder. Now my job- to rest. ahhhh

4 total miles:

10 min @ 10 min pace
5 min @ 9:15 pace
5 min @ 10 min pace
5 min @ 8:45 pace
5 min @ 10 min pace
3 strides, each done at 6 min pace for 1 minute followed by 2 min @ 10 min pace

abs/stretch/epsom salt soak

very nice clean balanced day of activity!

nice legs, happy legs, and great workout.

saoking too.

:luxlove:
