Sparrows Experiment

Taking a forced day off. Stomach flu is whipping through the kids again. Gross. I'm being increadibly lazy today. I started the new diet today so we'll see how it goes and I'll put in periodic updates on it.

I juiced an interesting combo this morning of mango, banana, apple, kiwi, broccoli, spinach added spirulina and wheat grass. It was SO GOOD. It had 60g of carbs and I couldn't believe how starving I was very soon after I had it. Protein truely is a carb craving killer.

Lunch: was a big bowl of stir fry:
1c broccoli, 1 zuchinni, 1/2 red bell pepper, red onion, sliced carrot stir fried in 1/2 c low sodium chicken broth, 1T olive oil. Sprinkled 1T raw sunflower seeds, 2T dried cranberries-I was surprised how delicious this was.
Not sure on the rest of the day. Just learning as I go whats going to work. I'm open to suggestions on any food combos not involving animal protein

nice!

cook for me please..... fed-ex. my treat!

What kinds of protiens can you handle? Can you handle things like soy, wheat, nuts, eggs, dairy? is it ANY protein in higher amounts?

Thanks for the recipes! THey sound great. Soy I haven't tried. Nuts, sans peanut, I can do. Wheat is okay in smaller amounts. Eggs are great, they are the one thing I can really tollerate protein-wise. Dairy not so great. I can also do fish. Tuna has been okay. It seems the more time passes the easier some of these foods become

WOW those look soooo good! Why don't you just open a sort of "fat farm" and you can cook and train people :) I'd come...even though I'm not fat, just to get food like that :)

Thanks so much! I'm going shopping now!

Today has been nice so far. Dad is at winter camp with youth from the church so the kids and I slept in until 9:30! What sloths we are! I think I've really needed the sleep. I also took a 2 hr nap yesterday! Maybe I'm constantly in a state of deprivation. I made a huge breakfast and wished I could eat it! I had a big fruit salad and a few bites of egg instead *pouts*

I'm headed for the pool. I rarely get unlimited time to swim so I'm taking my 2 hrs I get for childcare and swimming the entire time. I should get in between 5,000-6,000. Here's my anticipated workout

500 free, 400 IM, 300 kick, 200 pull, 100 skulling drills
8x75 free/back/free @ 1:20
8x200 free @3:30
8x100 IM @1:50
6x50 breast @1:10
4x25 1/2 sprints @ .30
4x25 full sprints @ .30
4x25 no breathers @.45
4x100 pull work on rotation and extention-bilateral breathing @1:45
200 cool down
5700

edit: This ended up whoopin my butt. I was good until the sprints. Then I hit a wall but I still did the rest. I felt really awesome, yet a bit loopy afterwards

SPARROW~! hey ,,, do I have yer attention? SPPPAAAARTRRRRROOOOW! ~~~~

diet, medical isssews, shins, need a bike oh my! lots going on, and it's cold outside half the time.

YOU ARE AN ATHLETE! you are incredible. obsolutely a fantastic thingy if ever there was one.....

on your upcoming 'season' if I may make an observation/suggestion. Many people do not have the ability or the spiritual strength to prioritize and make deliberate choices. Be smart about yourself and your body.

Have all things contibute to, support, work around- becoming an "iron woman 70.3" Drop events that could risk that event, train for that month, eat for that month, focus---

that does not mean - not to compete, race, have fun, BUT I DO MEAN that it may be wise if ALL "athletic" things should be bounced off of the main objective. If that is your main objective.

"IRONWOMAN 70.3" is worth devoting a complete season.

Sweat Daily! or die! hhahahaa

I'm printing these out as you give them Sara. I'm stoked, I have FOOD TO EAT! lol

I'm also so excited that I'm a "thingy" as FF so dearly put it. Wow, I've never been one of those before. What do "thingys" do?

;)

The swim was awesome and I want to try and do that more during my weekends. I also want to take out the aqua jogger and do a nice little pool run during times I need to tread lightly (haha) around my shins. I was at a bday party tonight talking to a marathoner about that.

Thank you for being so impressed FF. Especially since I doubt my little splashing compares to your 30 mile run. my goodness.

Day off. I'm at my grandmother's 90th birthday party. Well I was anyway, now I'm just at my parents house. BBQ for lunch. I had fruit and salad with some avocado, how boring. I'm in pain today. I can't wait to get home and shop for some of Sara's recipes.

I'm feeling GREAT today. I ate half a half gallon of ice cream last night (uncontrolled binge, seriously) and was HURTING ALL NIGHT but whatever was wrong got out of my...er...system, and I'm feeling FINE today

Went to spin feeling pumped up. That workout was SO great. I pushed it super hard the entire time and went much heavier than called for. I had "stuff" leftover still even. Tonight I'll swim 3K before I coach. I wish I could run but I'm not running on the tread anymore so I have to wait till my hubby is home from camp. maybe tomorrow. Shins are feeling better today. I'm adding protein today. Its been a few weeks since I've had it.

So you simply beat your body into submission? Hahahaha. Glorious. :D Glad you're feeling better.

Props to your grandma.

Sparrow, I know you are meticulous about your eating but do you think you might not be eating quite enough? I am not criticizing you by any means, I think you are a totally dedicated, incredible athlete. Just thought that if the "binge" created so much extra energy that you might be a little low on calories or carbs or something, maybe just be a few calories/day but just enough to make a difference in the long run. Just a thought. Keep up the good work. You are a freakin' machine!

Oh I KNOW I'm low on cals. I'm in a hard spot with my diet because of my ulcer deal. Most calorie dense foods hurt my stomach. That sugar was the first I'd had in a month or more just because I simply can't have it or I hurt all day. I'm trying to figure out how to balance the medical part with the althletic part, especially since I'm so limited now. Protein used to really be a huge part of my diet, now it hurts my stomach. I eat like a rabbit, seriously, and its boring and not enough energy. I'm learning as I go but Sara hooked me up with recipes I think might work. Thanks for being concerned, and you're RIGHT, I'm aware and just trying to work out the bugs.

Hang in there lady. This diet thing is a little tougher than I ever thought it would be. Hopefully we can help you find you some calorie dense foods you can eat to supply you with the nutrients you need to keep you crankin' during your bad azz training. It's tough enough for me and my simple stuff. I can't imagine what it's like for you. I'll do a little research and see if I can at least give you a couple of ideas. You're freaking awesome (and a lot prettier than FF, lol). Take care and let us know what we can do. Cya, Greg

Don't tell FF that, you might lurch him into a depression. He thinks hes VERY pretty! Haven't you seen the public bathroom pics? Enough said lol :p

Thanks Greg for the kind words. I'll figure it all out, its just hard in the meantime to not have much balance to my plate! I had more protein than I've had in a while yesterday and it didn't settle very well, again. So I'm back to my rabbit food today. I did try about 10g with breakfast and until I burned it off at the gym it wasn't feeling happy.

Today I decided to do a small run before weights with my friend so I started easy for the shins at 10 min mile pace. Lordy, it was painfully slow. Its almost harder to go that speed than to go really fast. By a mile I'd bumped it up to 8:30 which was comfortable today and I stayed there for 3.5 miles. Thats all I had time for.
Then NROL Fat Loss 3 A.
Tonight I hope to do another 3K in the pool before I coach. I'm trying to make that a habit. Hubby came home from winter camp sick so I'm not sure if it'll happen or not since I'm still on full kid duty. Its pouring here.

 I'd like to get to the point where 10 min miles were "painfully slow"!:D
