Sparrows Experiment

Yup natural foods are better for you than the shakes anyhow. A trainer told me it's 80% nutrition, 20% working out - and in its way nutrition is often the more difficult of the two. Keep up the good work.

Me too!

It's very hard to eat when its so hot. anyone else struggling?

The weather finally broke last night when huge thunderstorms blew through NY. The heat here really makes everything sometimes seem like a huge effort, especially exercising and eating (I blew off hard-boiling eggs because it felt like it made the apartment hotter, lol.) I agree with your thinking though, and She's too. It IS important to get the "chewing" in and snacking, even 75 cal., is better than nothing. Gotta fuel that body and keep that metabolism chugging along. When it is really hot I go for ice cold watermelon and then sneak in some cottage cheese to round things out. Or apples and hummus, basically anything that comes out of the fridge. Keep it clean. Keep it cold. That's my motto. Good luck!

ahh Saturdays are GOOD>
I was in Tahoe this weekend camping with my fam and our youth group but my 3 yr old got sick so I'm back home with her. She actually seems fairly normal now and her temp is gone so..??? weird.

I had some weird camping food although I tried to stay as true to form as possible, even packing my own stuff. Worked mostly but its always hard when you're with a group (especially teens), as they're looking at my plastic cup full of whey protein chocolate bubblies saying "EWWW what IS that?!". I wanted to say "would you rather me break out my tupperware container of hard boiled eggs and gas you guys all out?" lol. ok then.

Today I'm hoping to get to the gym. I've had 2 days off and I'm stir crazy. I'm doing a threshhold run today and that is always pretty challenging. I just ate so I'm biding my time. Its definitely a puke-inducer. ick.

I posted a question about water that Leip answered really well and I'm working on getting more of that stuff. I hardly drink water, and not cause I don't like it, I just don't think much about it since I don't often feel thirsty. I do very well with it at the gym, but thats the only place.

So anyway, I slept like 12 hours last night with the baby. neither of us slept the night before so it was fantastic although I feel very lethargic right now and would be good spending the day back in bed ;) its going to be 113 here today! nooooooo! I'll edit this post as the day goes and fill in the blanks to my menu. It helps me stay on track if I do it that way.

breakfast: 4 egg whites, 1 egg, 1/2 c oatmeal
gym: tread 1 mile 6.0 warm up, 3 miles threshhold 7.0, 1 mile 6.0 cool down, short full body workout, ball exercises at home.
lunch: 5 c romaine lettuce, 1 T olive oil, 2 T balsamic vinegar, 1 grilled chicken breast, 1/2c marinated twirly pasta (it was white..oops)
snack: 2 stalks celery stuffed with 1 T natty butter and drizzled with sf maple syrup
dinner: too hot to cook- 2 scoops chocolate whey protein, 1c ff milk, 2T flax seeds
water total: 98oz
cal total: 1150

Yes, I never used to drink water either but having had it during/after working out I've noticed I've developed, if not a liking for it, the body now knows it's the thing to have when thirsty. Still have my diet soda though lol but working water in too.

Yeah, sparrow, I know the water feeling. I have to remind myself that even when I am NOT thirsty, I need to be drinking some water. You really should never be thirsty, if you are, it basically means your body is already dehydrating. I am sure you are aware of that. BTW, how was your threshhold run ??

The run was awesome. I was SOOO tired when I was there and decided to do a bit of stretching to get my blood going and my body in the mood to work hard. I was only tired cause I slept too much last night

I did a mile warm up pace and then went 3 miles at 8:13/mile pace..which is 7.5mph. I was going to do only 7.0mph on the tread but once you get past 7.0 its all kinda the same pain. lol. I wanted to see what a pace closer to 8:15 was since my goal pace for my half marathon is between 8:00-8:15. Its bookin it for me at this time. I have some work ahead of me. Then did a mile cool down pace.

I did a brief full body workout after that just doing 2 exercises per body part only 2 sets of 12 each. I challenged the weights though, they weren't that easy. Then I took my daughter to the pool..which felt more like bathtub water :(

Speaking of water. I may have to build up to the amount I should be drinking per day. I already feel water logged and I'm only drinking 20 oz with each of my meals.

Do you also drink water between meals ?? I am thinking you eat 5 meals a day, which would be 100 ozs. of water. Assuming that is correct, I think it would be more benficial for you to spread out your water intake during the day. Maybe, drink 10, 10 oz glasses a day, until you increase your intake. With the heat, and your activity level, I think you need a least a gallon a day. At least. JOM, of course. The "water logged" feeling will dissipate after your body becomes adjusted to your increased water intake.

yeah I do, that 20 oz kinda lingers, its not all consumed right when I'm eating.
When I lived in Colorado I drank 130 oz of water religiously and did this same kinda exercise-weight training thing. I felt great with the water and it wasn't hard to drink it after awhile, but it did take some doing to get up to that point but after I was used to it its all I ever wanted. I also got thirsty much more easily when my body was used to recieving it regularly. That was back when I only ate like 500 cals a day of almost all protein...the exercise part never yeilded very much result and I was always frustrated and never knew why. lol. how far I've come..thanks to all of you ;)

You mean you were working out with this same intensity, drinking all that water and knocking down a whopping 500 cals a day, and you weren't seeing results. I'm dumbfounded  . Okay I am being a smart a$$. I am sure we all appreciate your thanks sparrow, I know I do. But thank yourself the most really, for you determination and resilience. Keep up the good work :)

 oh jp you kill me

OK so...on a new topic since I'm not getting anyone to tell me what I want on my post of EFA's....I need to go to the store and start supplementing with EPAs only I have no idea what I'm supposed to get and everything I'm reading is confusing me. One dude in another post said something bout just getting an EPA/DHA supplement and thats all you need. thoughts?

Threshold running....never heard of that. What is it supposed to help u do? Is it a form of training for a marathon? (or half marathon)
