Sore Neck/shoulders after squats?

Just wondering if it is usual to have a slightly sore neck and shoulders after doing a few sets of squats?

I am only started into my routine 3 weeks now but i am constantly increasing the weight as it gets to easy.

Earlier i put a little extra (5KG) on when doing squats and now i am a bit sore.

My technique is good as far as the squat goes, but im not sure if im postioning the barbell across my shoulders correctly?

Any tips or advice?

Cheers

Your could be lifting the bar wrongly.
The bar rests on the lower traps on ur back no on top of the shoulders and traps. It will still hurt when your squat but not as much. To minimise the pain get a towel or some type of padding to help.

Cheers for the advice.

I was actually thinking about using my towel but thought i might look stupid! Def. gonna use the towel next session :)

see if your gyrm has stingray, its a specially sculpted bar pad. Rather than just the zipper on padded roll, it is sculpted to the shouler/trap complex. Feels great and distributes the weight equally over a much great surface area.

I didn't realize that about squeezing your shoulder blades together.... makes sense though. The stingray is definitely a cool little invention. I prefer that over the standard pad. However, if you do not have one available, a towel will do.
