Sometimes the discrepancy between my weight and dress size does my head in

Hi
This is subjective of course.
By that I mean I feel I weigh a lot but am quite small dress size wise (I mean in real life, not what shops say - I did fashion so know what measurements are without flattery :-0 hope this doesn't come over in an arrogant way it isn't meant to...)
ie I am size 10 to 12 but am about 10 st 8. I know some of this is muscle because I stopped training with weights for a while and dropped to 9 st 10, was happy for 2 seconds then realised this meant I had merely lost muscle tone.
How can it be that a friend of mine, who is slightly bigger in terms of dress size (ie 12-14) - but is the same sort of shape, can weigh 9 st 5 or so?
Could it be I have really heavy bones or something!? As my mum is five inches taller than me and only weighs half a stone more...
Any info gratefully received...
It's late at night, I can't sleep, it'll seem less important in the morning doubtless :sport2:

Womens' clothing is infamously inconsistent in sizing, so unless you are comparing clothing sizes with the same clothes, it may not be an accurate comparison.

Muscle is denser than fat. If you are more muscular, you could weigh more while being the same size or smaller. At the other end of the scale, a fatter person will be larger for the same or less weight compared to a muscular person.

I'm the same, i don't really think i look like what i weigh if that makes sense, like, my mum is only a few kilos heavier than me, but she is like 2 or 3 dress sizes bigger than me, that's why i hate telling people what I weigh it's really embarrassing.
