Solaani's journey journal du jour.

Good morning!!! Okay so you have all you need for the gym so don't get off track!! No saying the weather is too bad. No saying I have some errands to run that are more important. No nothing just get to the gym!!! And enjoy the rain while you are at it. I don't know about you but nothing smells better than a rain shower!!

First, a little bit of silliness, I wrote a haiku today. It was a "haiku thread" on one of the other forums I go to, and someone posted one in japanese. They're a smarmy bunch, so my response:

English, my good friend
Do you or don't you speak it?
Say what one more time.

Because Sammuel L. Jackson is rad.

Heh, anyways, here is food today:
The calorie king software tried telling me that an 8" turkey ranch sub was NINE HUNDRED calories. I find it hard to believe that unless somehow they deep fried it without me looking. Brown bread, turkey, ranch sauce, and veggies, c'mon! The sauce is probably the worst part, and I don't think I've seen worse than like 50 cals per tablespoon for the fatty stuff (and Quiznos' ranch sauce just doesn't taste fatty, it's actually kind of thin and a little runny). I managed to find the info from a reliable third party site for a 9", and then just multiplied it by 1.5 for a footlong.

Honey if you go on the website for Quizzno's nutrition and look up an 8inch turkey it has 977 calories. Eating out is a bad way to get your calories for the day. You really need to start cooking at home and bringing it with you!!:)

How was the gym????!!!!

Where are you finding this info? Because I can't find squat all directly from Quizno's, at least not the US or Canadian sites. Actually, now that I check my info, even the Australian website has been taken down, which is where I got my numbers in the first place. I know that Quizno's isn't the best place to eat, especially because we can't know for sure what's in it nutritionally, but I can't believe that an 8" (well, 9" here) is almost 1000 calories. I'm pretty sure the fattiest burger at mcdonald's isn't even that much.

All I did was google Quizznos and found the info. Actually if you check out sites for all the major fast food chains I think you will be suprised by what you will find. A McDonalds double quarter pounder with cheese has 740 calories. An Arby's market fresh turkey and swiss sandwich has 725 calories and a Subway toasted turkey and bacon 6 inch has 580 calories. That doesn't even cover all the sodium you are getting eating all that processed food.Yuck! Don't get me wrong I love to eat fast food too I just have had to really cut it back to maybe once or twice a month since I went online and found all the nutritional info. I didn't realize how icky looking it could make the food when you took a look at the numbers!:) Google some of the places and see what you find!

Well, what's done is done and I guess the moral is to not eat what I can't count :)

I snuck in some bad food again yesterday, but I didn't even go over my fat because of it. Did half an hour on a stationary bike at the gym, and I guess maybe 10 minutes weight training - I got tired fast on that, I think I'll have to work my way up.

I also put a lot of effort into not binging last night while I worked my way through more employment listings sites... this is just getting depressing. I'm considering going back part time for a "digital publishing" certificate, which is basically the adobe suite for print (photoshop, illustrator, acrobat, and indesign) plus some theory. I am very iffy on it though because it is most definitely something I can enjoy, but for another $3500 that it would cost, there still isn't much guarantee of a job, especially since there are probably lots out there with more than a 10-course certification that I'd be competing against. ... Anyways, long story short, I had a diet pepsi, and watched the comedy network till I fell asleep.

Don't let the job hunt get you down hat is bad for your no binge eating thing you are trying to do. Did you google any of the fast food places and check out the nutritional info? It is a scary thing!!

I have my grill pit together but my kids just aren't impressed with my grilling skills. I really need to work on those and if it takes a man to get me there then I guess I will have to use him that way!!

And Comedy network is a good thing!!:)

Oh I know fast food is bad for you, I never get a "combo" or extras to add even more calories, but I was really hungry and in a rush. I know, not an excuse, but I took it into account with the rest of my day.

I have never been able to do the 6-small-meals-a-day thing. Such small meals never even get rid of my hunger in the first place, and I just end up snacking all day. I know it's counter to the general wisdom around here, but a couple big meals a day keeps me full for most of it and I don't find myself looking for more to eat, at least not nearly as much. 3 500 calorie meals a day works for me.

Oh you are right it is no excuse but have you ever noticed that when you are in a hurry you seem to be able to justify these excuses to yourself?! I have also learned that most fast food drive thrus take longer than it takes to run into the grocery store and grab a piece of fruit and pay for it. At least around here it is that way:rolleyes:

Ugh, it's the danger of working in a mall with a huuuuge food court. I try to not even enter the foodcourt, but like you said, sometimes you justify things to yourself that you shouldn't :(

Yesterday was a stay-at-home day, and so I didn't eat much, but the popcorn almost killed me. I didn't even finish it all, I was feeling sick by the end... though I did get through about three glasses of water while eating it!

Also: Weigh-in Day!
Weight: 176.8
Chest: 98 cm
Waist:91 cm
Hips:106 cm
Thigh:63 cm

Huh, some of my measurements are a little bigger than last week. I know I didn't put *on* any weight, so I think maybe I just measured at a slightly different spot. I won't worry too much about 1cm here or there unless they start adding up.

Oh how I love popcorn but it doesn't love me:cry: The only time I eat popcorn is when we go to the drive-in and then I really try to limit myself not only because of the fake butter that they pour all over it (yummy) but because the heartburn I get after I eat it kills me for days afterwords!

Now about working near the food court. JUST AVOID IT!!!!:) Pack a lunch and take it outside of the mall to eat. Walk the exterior of the mall during lunch. Take a book to read, Window shop for clothes. Do anything that takes you away from the food court. After awhile you will be just fine with it. It just takes will power!! I have faith in you that you can acomplish this!!!:)

Woops, I keep forgetting to come back here and update y'all on how I'm doing. This journal thing takes some getting used to ><

Got to the gym again today. I did 15 minutes on a bike to warm up, then about half an hour hopping from one training machine to another (I still can't do more than about 30 reps on most muscle groups) before I did 10 minutes of cooldown stretching - I got pecs and upper arms worked on, thighs, and abs... is 50 lbs a lot of resistance for an ab machine? I was able to do almost 100 reps on that one, I was kind of surprised, but I also have been trying to at least do situps each night if I don't go to the gym - but I only got as high as 30 reps on each part of my abs at home (I do a different kind of situp for the upper abs, lower, and sides)

Also, does anyone know if there is really a significant difference between doing a few high-resistance reps or doing a lot of low-resistance ones?

Hey Solaani I just skimmed your diary and it seems like you are doing a great job. I saw your post in the harsh truth forum and I know you'll get great responses :) I'm waiting to hear what they have to say to you too. I just wanted to stop in and say great job!

Solaani

are your breaking your reps up into sets or doing the lot at once ?

if you are not breaking each exercise up into sets of 10 - 15 reps you need to change a few things

1. For each weight exercize split your total reps into 3 -4 sets of 10-15 reps
2. If you can manage this increase the weight on your next training day
3. repeat

in the harsh truth section i think you mentioned 80 reps on what sounds like the assisted dips machine. This is to many, raise the weight, do 3 sets 10 with a minutes break between each set.

low reps high weight (5-8 reps per set)= maximum strenght training
high reps lower weight has less focus on maximum strength
