Im not gonna go in to large detail, but 1st you need to eat properly. 2nd you need to be exercising well and 3rd you need a good muscle building workout.

im not gonna write you a book, so you'd be better off buying a book like muscle, buy Ian king.

check this out

Hey all,

Not sure if there's rules about linking to other forums, but I don't think so.

This is a thread discussing the Farmer Burns' Stomach Flattener. I've used this a lot and seen amazing results. Not sure about weight loss, as I already had strong abs to start with, but after using this exercise for awhile, when I get hit in the stomach in my martial arts class, I seriously don't feel it.

Give it a shot.

details

Fair enough,

Here's the post about the Farmer Burns' Stomach Flattener:

"While standing up with legs and shoudlers lined up and with your arms relaxed at your sides, inhale deeply, filling your lungs up, but do not have your stomach protrude. Then shut your mouth and throat up real tight and try to push your stomach down. Tense as hard as you can and clench your fist and tighten your glutes(basically anything more to tense your abs past their limit). Do it for as long as 6 seconds then either do one of two things...

1.exhale gently to breath in fresh air...

or 2. exhale slowly, pushing the air out while pushing your stomach in."

Obviously, this is not a complete solution, but anyone who's interested in developing their abs (making them functionally strong, not necessarily 'cut') would be wise to do a bunch of these every day.

dynamic tention is crap. muscles move your body, so you gotta move your body against resistance to build muscle. You cant build abs whilst standing still.

Weight Training.
Exercise.
Healthy Diet.

If you are a human, then this WILL work.

Diet

Please post what you're currently eating and we'll go from there. How tall are you and what is your weight? What other type of exercise are you doing?

If other people are telling you that you're losing weight why don't you believe them?

the reason i Dont belive them is because its mostly my family but when i look in the mirror I dont see any weight loss.I see a lil buda belly! and at this point i dont care about functional absa i want some sort of cut.
but about what I eat.
heres a list.

MORNING.
usually nothing Since i dont have time.but sometimes ill have time to make a quick sandwitch.nothing big normal break hamd cheese and maybe some potatoes that they put on hot dogs.
then during the day ill prob sometime have lunch in shool.a burger with some fried and juice and milk.then ill come home and my mom will have a meal.usually salad and then a big meal like rice steak ect.she cooks good and gives me a propriet amount.
then i will prob eat lil things during the rest of the day but never another big meal.most of the time that is.
as far as candy and stuff i really dont eat alot of it.I chew sugarless gum an eat sugarless mints but I really am consience about that.I dont drink soda.Rarely now.I dont eat that much candies just the occasional brunch.

as far as height im about 5-8/5-10
and weight 155-165 the highest!.

I can maybe post a pic of my stomach.

thanks !!!!!!!!!!!
*a desperate teen who go invited to the beach by his best friend so he can meet a girl that they want me to hook up with but im not going to go because of my stomach!*

why dont you guys belive in this exersice? its a version of the stomach vacuum right? first flex all ur abs and hold for 6 secs, then exhale as you do a stomach vacuum.
stomach vacuum has many testemonials that they work, and they work the inner muscles in your stomach, the muscle that pulls the stomach innward in the vacuum. and as far as i know, situps or crunches wont hit that muscle.

one question though.
"I am talking about the Stomach flattener. about the 2. option.. isent your stomach already pushed inn? "Then shut your mouth and throat up real tight and try to push your stomach down. Tense as hard as you can and clench your fist and tighten your " explain please.

and about doing it EVERY DAY. wont that break the muscle recovery rule? and how many times should one repeat this exersice a day? and when ur done exhaling the air in option 2, the rep is done? or do you hold that position too for a while?

The reason I dont believe dynamic tension works is because it doesnt.

you can not flex any muscle as much as when your lifting your max weight.

Put it this way... If dynamic tension worked for strength or size, power lifters, bodybuilders and oylimpic lifters would be doing it.

Plus, Atlas, the guy who made dynamic tension popular got sued cos he told people he used only dynamic tension, when he really used weights.

hmm.. this makes me worried:p ive heard alot of good stuff about the stomach vacuum. but it cant be bad right? i mean, it has to do some good.. and it works a muscle that is hard to hit with weighted exersices, am i right?

I think it's your diet. Your diet isn't HORRIBLE but it could use some improvements. First of all, you need to eat breakfast...for lunch, can you replace the fries with some vegetables. Are you drinking enough water? Your dinner seems fine though.

1) I'm sure that your belly is not as bad as you think it is and the girl that you're trying to meet will still like you regardless of that!

2) Make some minor improvements to your diet and you'll probably see your stomach flatten right up!

i dont think i drink enought water.if i drink alot and alot of water will i see results in my overall health and what esle?

also are the exercises im doing enought or what?

rockmehard water will help you but its not a cure all. You should try to fix your diet. 5-6 meals. 2 fruit and 3 veggies a day. 1 serving nuts. 48-64ounces of water. It seems hard but when you work at it becomes routine.

I wouldn't solely focus on ab exercises to show abs. I would focus more on weight training and cardio. weight training builds more muscle burns more calories resting. go with compound exercises such as squats, bench press, pullups (trust me you won't get bulky like a bodybuilder anytime soon). cardio you should do 20-25mins of High Intensity Training 3Xweek to raise metabolism (a tough challenge not overkilling though).

Feel free to ask any questions. I could help setup a routine for you if i knew how much time you had, facilities available, etc.

As for Mano and Karky. Dynamic tension such as stomach vacuum could be benefical in shrinking your stomach (more so if you do it on the ground hands and knees). Powerlifters probably don't do it because in squats you surprass anytype of stomach vacuum exercise as it is far more effective.

The answer is just do the damn squats.

Yep, I agree with Champr23. That's pretty much what I would have said. If, because you're in school, you can't do the 5-6 meals a day (I know we weren't allowed to eat in school except for during lunch) just clean up the three that you do eat.

~teresa

well it dident answer my question:p i know it can shrink my stomach.. and i already do the squats:p but my question was on how to do it. the dude said it was benificial for martial arts class and for having a funcional strong stomach, thats what i want:p i wont stop doing other exersices ofcource.

Hey Karky,

You wrote:
or 2. exhale slowly, pushing the air out while pushing your stomach in."

about the 2. option.. isent your stomach already pushed inn? "Then shut your mouth and throat up real tight and try to push your stomach down. Tense as hard as you can and clench your fist and tighten your " explain please.

--I think what they mean is that on the inhale you're flexing just enough to hold your stomach in. Basically you're taking the pressure that usually expands your stomach and holding it inside you. On the exhale, you're flexing as much as you can to put more pressure on your stomach as you breathe out. So if on the inhale you're flexing say 30% (just enough to keep your stomach from expanding), on the exhale it would be closer to 100%.

For your other questions:

and about doing it EVERY DAY. wont that break the muscle recovery rule? and how many times should one repeat this exersice a day? and when ur done exhaling the air in option 2, the rep is done? or do you hold that position too for a while?

--I'll probably get flamed out here, but as someone who really doesn't do much weights, I don't follow the muscle recovery rules. I'm sure most of you have problems with matt furey, but he always says that you never see a monkey taking the day off because his arms are sore from all the climbing. If you want to build mass, then sure, you need to rest - but in my experience with my own body, the times when I've been strongest (not biggest, but strongest) is when I train every day.

--As for holding at the end, I don't think you have to. I've found that, because your abs are flexed more at the end of a rep than the beginning (the 100% instead of 30%), if you only let out a little bit (say to 80%), your second rep will be more effective than the first. Obviously these numbers are random, but that's usually how I do them. Play around and see what feels better for you.

--I usually see it recommended to do this for about 5 minutes. Most people take about 5 seconds per rep, but I breathe slower and usually do one every 10-15 seconds. Do what's best for you.

I'd love some comments on the monkey thing.

doing that constant for 5 minnutes? wow.. wonder if i can do that.. its pretty hard to to it many times in a row.
