Skinny, want to bulk up. What should I be doing?

Hey,

This is my first post here so please be nice to me if I am posting in the wrong forum or doing anything else wrong.

I have just started college/university and I don't want to known as the skinny guy anymore, I want to be gain a little weight so I look better.

I am:
128 lbs (58kg)

5'9

18 Years old

I have had no medical problems or any injuries that could limit my ability to do exercises.

I have a exercise machine similar to this at home, so if there are any specific exercises that I should do, that can be done on that machine it would be appreciated. I am willing to change my diet but also need some suggestions as to what foods I should be eating more of and less of.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide !

You should concentrate on exercises that hit large muscle groups. I am not familiar with that machine, but you want to do squats, dead lifts, bench presses. Not sure you can do squats on that, though. Bench, lat pull downs, leg presses on that device would be a good start. As far as food, you need to eat A LOT. At your height and weight you must have a crazy fast metabolism. Eat lots of protein;chicken, fish, eggs, lean red meat. Get plenty of carbs as well. When I was younger and my metabolism was cranking, I ate the planet and had a hard time gaining. What I did for cheap protein was mix powdered milk with regular milk. I drank at least 1/2 gallon a day. If you are lactose intolerant though, this would be a bad choice. :) So, eat a lot, but not a lot of crap. Avoid processed food, fast food and sugary foods and drinks. You may benefit from a weight gain supplement as well, just to help you jack your calories up. Eat at least 6 times per day. Lift as heavy as you can in the 6-10 Rep range.

Sorry for bringing an old thread from the dead but, does anyone have any recommendations for weight gain supplements that are good?

Nice machine, but if I may make a suggestion...
Try a combination of body weight movements and weight exercises - if you have seen the body builders from the golden age (50s) then you will be surprised to find that they did a combination of weights and body weight to give them a huge body with functional strength.

Anyway, I'm more inclined to scrap the machine and say go body weight, find a wall and do a handstand against it. Do push-ups and pull-ups. Any movement is good. To pack on muscle you want to eat a large amount (of health food) making sure you get the necessary protein. Since youa re skinny there is no need to start running as this may lead to less muscle gain.

Good luck
