"Skinny Fat" - what exercise should I do?

Hello everyone, new poster here!
I am hoping to get some advice on what kind of exercise I should do.
I'm what you would call "skinny fat"... I am naturally thin but I don't regularly exercise and eat what I want, and as a result, I have extra body fat and little muscle. I would like to start exercising and fix this, but I don't know what I should be doing, especially since I am interested in losing fat, not weight. (Especially around butt and thighs)

For the record, I am looking for things I can do at home - the option of going to the gym is not one I am considering for financial and schedule-related reasons. If there is some equipment I can get and use I home (dumbells, etc), that would be great.
Does aerobics/cardio help at all? Or is it not intense enough?
If possible, please be specific in your answers - I am very new to exercise and need specific example of what to do =/

Also, if you could recommend changes I could make to my diet (for example, I heard that eating protein
at every meal would help), that would be great!

Thanks in advance!!

Its difficult to know what you want to achieve without knowing your :-

- caloric intake
- BMI
- daily routine e.g. work in an office or sit behind a desk all day.

If going to the gym is not an option due to financial or other considerations, then you can search for workouts that you can do at home. Even a jog at the end of the day for 30 mins five days a week will make a difference.

Be sure to have a chat with your Doctor/Dietician to make sure you have no underlying health issues.
