Skin vs. Fat

So.. I guess this isn't really a diary per-say. But I've lost weight gained it.. I've always been up and down my whole life....

I got up to 200lbs. Was there for about 4 years. I'm 5'4. I was sick of it, so I lost 60lbs in a little over a year... then things started happening in my life and my weight loss was creeping back up.. I got up to 180. Now I'm down to around 168.

Ok so now I'm gonna get to the real point. My stomach has always looked really funky. Like most 'extra' skin pictures do. Which is weird to me because my heaviest was 200 and it still had that extra skin sort of look. Don't know if its my body shape or what... I've been looking and looking. I can't really pull anything out except the real lower part of my stomach.. not by a whole lot but theres no substance there. (maybe i'll put up pictures for reference if anyone actually has any helpful replies) Just wondering your thoughts.

I'm also 27, so I was wondering if there was a good chance i could tighten up the lose skin if indeed it is lose... Basically, all i really want is to wear pants at my hips and not have to hide fat.. so if theres a little bit there i don't care.

Extra skin is really thin (like millimeters thick) - if there is fat under it, then it is thicker (pictures would help). Skin seems to need more time to shrink after weight loss - I would try staying hydrated, and continue your healthy eating and exercise program. Give it a little more time - it might tighten up. :)

Thank you :) I was just curious, cause my stomach looks funky :/. I'm also very self conscience about my ugly looking stomach so that is why I really didn't wanna post any pictures unless there was a few replies.

If you had the extra skin look even when you were at your biggest, it doesn't sound to me it will ever fully tighten up on its own. But I'm not doctor or anything. You can have surgery to remove excess skin thu. But I think you'd want to be pretty sure that your not going to be re-stretching in again. I've wondered if I will need this type of surgery myself, as I'm about 200 pounds overweight. I think the skin tightening factor is very individual. However one thing I have heard, if you lose the weight without toning at the same time, the extra skin will be much worse. Like I said, I'm no doctor, I would recommend you talk to your doctor about it. I'm not sure what country your from, I'm from Canada where almost all surgery is covered by the government, but not the skin reduction.

Elasticity

At 27, chances are good it'll tighten up. But as Fatman says, elasticity varies from individual to individual. The best thing to do is next time you see your doctor ask them about it. A doc will have more information about elasticity and how yours compares to the general population.

Good luck!
