Situps

Someone told me that when doing situps there is a certain way your suppost to breath, they say if you do it one way you'll get muscle but it will just end up looking like a keg. The other will give you the six pack. Is this true and if so could someone explain this to me?

When i say a certain way to breath i mean like exhaling or inhaling at a certain points of the exercise.

ive always heard inhale on the way up and exhale on the way down.. and go slow down ;)

The important lesson here-breathe. It's not overly important in relation to exhlation or inhalation so long as you breathe.

karky are u sure? should not u exhale on your way up and inhale on the way down??

exactly what i said when i was told to do so:p but as evo said, most importaint is to breethe.. i do them fast up and slow down.. and ur suppose to breethe out when the heavy part is, and for me, that is down when i do them slow down, thats what makes them heavy imo

sorry karky I still have problems to understand how to breathe then...So, it does not matter if on way up or down..? sorry, if i keep askin but now I have a huge doubt now...

+1, you guys are looking to far into this..

Always exhale during the concentric phase of the repetition, regardless of the exercise. In the case of a sit-up: breath out on the way up, breath in on the way down.
