side fat/love handle, losing mind instead of fat.

Ok, here is the skinny on the fat so to speak.

I used to be in tremendous shape, I didnt lift weight much but I ran, I ran my butt off, 25 miles a week.

I was 28, 6"1 195ish

Then I injured my knee playing softball, had to have surgery, no biggie, in fact 100% recovery, but I could not run for 3 months.

Didn't adjust diet, sat on my ass a lot, gained 10 pounds..

I was still active, but no running.

fast forward to the present minus 6 months.

I turned 30 in august of 2010, got up one morning and didnt like the person I saw in the mirror

217 pounds at that point.

So I went out and bought a home gym, and a mountain bike. workout every day except sat and sun ,ride the bike a few miles mon, weds, fri.
no more running, just dont like it.

On the weekends, I kayak, go hiking, skiing (climate permitting)


I am a field technician for a MSO meaning 8-5, mon-fri I climb telephone poles and tote heavy crap here and there, work is not causing me to get fat in other words.

I don't "diet" But I do for sure take in less calories than I used to, no fast food, sodas, just water, gator, stuff cooked at home, which is usually some form of lean cuisine or something to that effect for lunch, and grilled chicken or steak for dinner.

as I sit, 221 pounds...

I have put on significant muscle mass thanks the the gym, so that explains some gain in weight.

My arms, legs, chest.. everything looks great, as good as ever.. my stomach is FLAT, and im just almost at a 6 pack, but the side fat (love handles?) seems unaffected by anything and everything, they are still there and best I can tell, have no plans of leaving. I look great from the front, fat from the side.


I don't get it, Im getting rather frustrated. months of working at it and, though i DO look and feel better, pants still fit the same :banghead: no weight loss...

Ive never, ever had a problem with weight, always been "skinny kid" I had to work HARD to keep any muscle on my frame, I probably have more muscle now in my upper body than I Ever have.

Is there anything else besides bust ass exercise I can try? pills? drinks? sacrifice something... this is driving me up the wall.
 
Alright...my first giggle came from the "gator", as I instantly pictured you gnawing on a scaled created...second - the sacrifice!

I'm sad to say, but a sacrificial gift of a young virgin is the only way to get rid of the love handles...we all gotta do it!

Firstly, great work on the current weightloss/muscle gain. that's a fantastic thing to have accomplished!

When you do your strength training, are you mixing it up? Or are you doing the same things every day?

Also, you might want to look at doing things that will target those areas (I could give suggestions, but I would really be guessing!)...

My suggestion would be to check around this site, or even google, and find some exercises that will target those areas.

Good luck! I'm sure there are people on here that can give you solid advice...for now, I'll just give you two thumbs up! :)

I think i can pick up some chicken blood at the flee market and mail order a midget for tossing if that would help.


I do biceps, chest, shoulders and abs on mon and weds, and back tricpeps, obliques on Tues and Thurs firday is a mishmash, just do whatever I feel like working to keep things from getting stale.

as far as working that areas, I do side bends, and various crunch/sit up exercises that focus on those areas, but so far I just seem to build muscle under the fat. :rant:
 
I have had the love handles my whole life. I think I was born with them-lol. Always been heavy too- until now. At my heaviest I was about 330 pounds. I am now 188 heading down to 175. I have lost and gained about 5 people over my lifetime and no matter how much I lost I had the love handles. I know you don't want to run but so far that is the only thing that seemed to help to make my love handles the smallest they have ever been. I don't know why but running has shrunk them down. Keep at it - don't lose hope.

It might just be that in a matter of time, your skin will become less lose, and tighten up...skin is resilient like that!

My only suggestion, and it's made with a lack of experience and knowledge!, is to focus on exercises that target those areas...you seem to have a great work out plan already, mixing it up and incorporating cardio...and maybe, as cowboy said, increase cardio - running is great for weightloss!

Good luck! And don't buy too many midgets for tossing...I'm sure the love handle gods will be pleased with just a minor sacrifice...3 virgins, 6 cows, 2 midgets, and a goat.

Yea, maybe im expecting too much too soon.

The midget thing can get out of hand, you get 5 or 6 together and without warning they form a midget coalition.. you know.. for the little things.... and your are running for your life, will never make that mistake again.

It just aggravates me that the one area that REALLY bothers me is the "last rampart to fall" Kinda like how the one day you are late to work is when all the retarded people decide to drive and the lights stay red.

ROTFLMAO.....Thanks, I needed that, was feeling a little displaced because I ate bread at my cuz's birthday party, but with that I can go to bed laughing..:rotflmao:
 
I believe the best methods are:
1. Structure your strength training exercises into supersets.
2. Focus on compound exercises.
3. Forget the long cardio. Structure cardio into intervals.

UPDATE:

Well, now I am down to 201 pounds.

I have been doing weight training 4 days a week and running and biking almost every day.

Now the love handles look even worse, because there rest of my body is skinny and lean, and I have these 2 potatoes hanging off my side.

My arms, back and chest are ripped, but I will not dare even consider taking my shirt off, my love handles look completely disgusting and bounce when I run.

All this work I have done, the results make me sick.
