Hi guys, my name is Petra, I've been lurking around this forum for a couple of months, reading lots of weight loss diaries and before/after threads. I've been soooo impressed and inspired by the stuff I've read and I swear its made me more positive in my whole diet/fitness outlook! I almost started a diary a couple of days ago, but chickened out because I thought it was tempting fate and I'd be doomed to fail, but now I feel brave enough to start posting and get some feedback. so here goes, I'll start with a rambly bit of background on me and my weight:
Im 23, 5'5" and 70kgs/154lbs. I just checked my BMI and I'm actually only just in the overweight category, but i know if I let it, my weight will start to get out of control and it will be soooo much harder to come back from than if I start now.
I used to be very active, I grew up riding horses and generally being an outdoor kid (no tv or video games for young me) I went to boarding school from the age of 13, and gained a little weight, then moving in with my boyfriend when i was 18 and eating the same amount he does for a couple of years did the rest. i managed to lose weight for my wedding in september 2008, went down to 139lbs by doing a low carb diet and exercising every minute of everyday, but then put it all back on again after.
I think where I've failed in the past is that I've been looking for a short term fix (starvation diets when I was younger, cutting out carbs, cabbage soup diet) and when theres that much restriction, I find it hard to keep up long term. This time, I dont care if it takes a year to lose the weight, I am going to do it the right way, no starving, lots of exercise, and general positive thinking.
anyway, after a month or so of messing around, I officially started my diet on monday (so this is day 5) my goal weight is around 126lbs, but that's just a number, I'll have to see when I start feeling more comfortable and see if iI should go for more or less than that.
so, this morning my weight was 151lbs, so thats already 3lbs down from where I started, (is that too fast? im not sure how quickly I should lose)
I've been eating around 1200 calories a day, no junk food, and walking a lot.
Ok, I'll probably update this later on, but I can't really think of anything else to put right now.

p.s. wow, just sat here for 15 minutes trying to think of an imaginative title for this thread, still nothing.

Well done Petra its not easy starting is it, but you are right to start now before your weight gets completely out of control. That is sooo me!!! I was 206lbs starting off, so you don't want that to happen. If your not being weighed by a Doctor or going to a slimming group, maybe you should pick a day and weigh yourself on that day every week. If you weigh every day, your weight fluctuates and you won't get an accurate reading just my opinion.
Am just heading home from work, hence the very quick reply
