Should it ache?

I'm a newbie to working out with weights, and when I began working out seriously a few weeks ago, I would always wake up the next morning with sore muscles. This lasted about a week, and has since stopped. Should you ache after a good workout? Obviously it's nice to not ache, but I just want to be sure my workouts are still doing me good. Thanks.

Soreness is not an effiecient indicator or a good workout. You've adapted to hitting the weights and that's good. In a few more weeks you ought to mix it up a little bit, and you're most likely going to be sore for a while. Just keep on keepin on.

Completely normal. When you try new things it's always gonna be sore. Then your body adapts, so like lei said, in a few weeks switch up your routine a bit.

Sore is such a poor term to use. For some, Sore means 'painful to move, touch, etc'...to others it means 'a little stiff, minor ache, but no actual pain'.

when you're brand new to lifting, you'll likely get painfully sore the first couple weeks.
when you've been lifting a while, you shouldn't feel more than stiffness, very minor muscle aches...like they were used, but not abused......that's the best way I can phrase it.
