What I basically want to do is gain more muscle mass, Lose the fat around my stomach and build a more lean yet muscular body. I believe I'm an mesomorph but may be wrong. Here are some pics. I really want to get into shape, but really need to know more or less where to start.

I believe that you may be correct about the 'mesomorph' physique, as you are not overly large nor overly small. You have quite the opportunity, as you do not seem to have much to lose by way of body fat - bravo! You've also correctly recognized your body style, and you've also done the right thing - come here to ask questions.

As a beginner, you should look at what you want to look like, and style your workout to match it. Look at the time you can devote to your new physique, and the exercises that will work best for you.

Many beginners start with a Monday, Wednesday, Friday routine, with a Total Body Workout which targets your core and appendages. Spend 10 minutes on Cardio to warm up your muscles, then work your largest muscles first, followed by the smaller muscles. This means do chest and back, followed by arms, then legs. (Don't go working your biceps first, and then try to bench press, as you will not be able to push as much weight!) Start with a weight that you can do 10-15 reps, and do 3 sets of each exercise.

As you move through your workout, and then complete it, I would end off with 30-40 minutes of cardio at the end, if you are seriously wanting to shed some of the body fat.

The most important rule is this: Muscle is Built, and Fat is Burned. You cannot turn bodyfat into muscle. (This means, don't go trying the latest "Weight Gainer" powder, as a lot of the carbs you ingest will go to create fat, and NOT muscle.) You want to eat a good mix of protein and carbs, and good fat too - usually a 40/40/20 split. Chicken and Fish are your best proteins, green vegetables (ugh) are your best carbs, and omega 3 fatty acids are usually the best fats.

Try to cut down on pastas and breads, anything with useless carbs. Sugars, especially sugared drinks (colas, pop of any type) should be avoided like the plague!

You will also need plenty of WATER. Most people can lose 10 lbs really, really quickly when they are working out, and most of this is water weight, because most people don't know it, and are dehydrated on a regular basis... Water is your friend. I personally drink about 4 litres a day, and some days more.

I hope some of this helps you out - sorry for the long-winded post. I'm certain others will have other opinions, and I urge you to check into everything I've mentioned, as well as what others will recommend. You'll find a lot of great information here!

Oh I forgot to mention I was working out for quite some time, (maybe a year) but had to stop due to medical problems, but now that Im over that I want to start over again (after 6 long months). So I was in shape, sort of, hopefully it wont be so hard to gain what was there back again.
