Scarlett's Diary - please read + comment!

Not good, not good at all

Hi all,

Its been a while since I posted as I had a bit of an issue when i got back from the gym...

I attended my two classes on Sunday and then something came over me to do one hour of high intensity cardio on the epplitical...the machine said that I had lost over 800kcals. Having eaten only a bowl of 180kcal cereals...i was pretty ahem-ed (add cursing in there!)...when I got back I believe I got a bit of a case of hypoglaecmia as I was shaking, getting pins and needles in my feet and hands and was generally a wreck. I just cudnt get myself together...my memory was all over the place and I just was so desperate to eat to get better. I had already drunk loads and my face was proper red....just cudnt stop feeling my heart beat and my lungs cudnt recover...

I took some sugar, a cup of coke and started to calm down...
then I had two ryvita with chicken slices, 4 olives and a handful of nuts. Started to feel better....although when i read my symptoms online I started to freak cos had I not treated my symptoms I may have gone unconscious (apparently :S). I was still feeling irritable...like I got my BF to stop DJ-ing as it was reminding me of when I was exercising to my music really loud. I felt so disorientated.

I then went to have a hot shower, which caused my blood pressure to soar again...so once I got out...I started to shake again...but which time my BF and his bro thought I was being a hypochondriac and that I cudnt cope with a bit of hard sports...(theyve been hardcore swimmers all their lifes...swimming at 5am on an empty stomach for the county etc)

I read that a starchy carb would help so my BF made me some cheese and crackers...I then started to feel better....I was so not hungry but forced myself to eat.

I later had dinner as normal at 8pm

100g rice, chicken (didnt take any sweet n sour sauce) and some peppers stirfried.

By 10.30pm, I had been to the toilet several times...felt like metabolism was going like crazy....

My stomach then started growling so my BF and I shared half a yellow melon.

I had trouble sleeping and I work up at 6am out of anxiety.
 
Today - this is what over-training does to you!

This morning:

I had some cereal Bran flakes as normal...didnt drink any water as I was running late...I felt really awake tho which was weird seeing as I had had 5 hours sleep.

I got out of my flat and was like 3 mins away when I found my heart beat was raising loads and I was beginning to panic and get hot....

I then went to a cafe that was open and drank some cola and bought some water...

I got onto the underground and started to panic a little in the heat...took my coat off....just felt very anxious.

When I got to work I had (excuse me for mentioning it) diarhea and I then went to ring my doctor up. She cud see me either today but within the hour or on Wednesday...so as the cola started to kick in I thought that I would leave it for now.

I switched my computer on and I just cudnt concentrate at all, so i rung the doc back and went to see her...left all my colleagues and gotta taxi (cudnt face the underground again)

Got to the doctors and felt like the cola had kicked in a lot more then....
the doctor checked my blood pressure and she said it was fine in fact very healthy :) ...she also checked my heart and it was beating regularly. I dont know whether I had felt better by then or what...but hey.
She was impressed at my weight loss....seems when I went to see her for the first time about this...it had only been two months ago and I was on 85kg...
she weighed me today and I was at 79.4kg (my lowest so far!...so seemed that killing myself in the gym had got me some results....hmmmm)

She gave me a note so that I cud go home if I wanted...but I felt better...I mean my head wasnt totally there but I cud work so went back and got back into things...luckily I didnt have too much to do....I started eating more regularly and smaller portions so this is what I have had:
 
What I have eaten since the docs

I then had:

11am a fromage frais yoghurt (43 cals) with some sweetner.

1pm I felt real full but still went to meet my BF at lunch (we work at the same place) and I had three slices of Ryvita (31 cals each) and some peanut butter.
At 2.30pm...I had an actimel yoghurt at 78 kcals
I then went home...got a little anxious on the metro as I do feel a little hazy...a bit paranoid..
4.45pm Bought a single ferreo rocher chocolate (75kcal) and had that when I started to get a grumbly tummy)...seems I have been grumbling more in the afternoon...

as I have had 6 olives and two mini bread sticks at 6pm

It has left me with 1000-1100 kcals left for dinner....feels weird as I normallyt eat normal bread at lunch but ryvita filled me up in the same way yet it has a lot fewer kcals...
So I am going to allow myself 150g of spaghetti when we have spaghetti bolognese tonight, instead of 100g.

And today NO GYM!
If I feel better tomorrow I may do my all body musculation. Just hope I dont feel all anxious and paranoid again...i think its cos when my heart beat goes up suddenly out of the blue I panic I may faint and go unconscious and as my BF has no cell phone and I only know a handful of ppl here....I am just worried about someone looking out for me...

I really hope that this feeling will pass and that I can sleep properly tonite....I guess thinking about it is causing me to get worse and become more pyschological...paranoid etc....

What a weird feeling! Well I have learnt my lesson that is all I can say!
Hope I can start a fresh tomorrow!
 
Hello all,

Today I feel tonnes better! :)

So I have eaten:

9.30 am Breakie (ate at work) - 3 pieces of dark ryvita with a lil peanut butter

11am Mid morning- handful of grapes.

Lunch - 2pm tomato pesto pasta salad, with some ham and two mini breadsticks.

Time now: 6pm

Felt full all afternoon....so gonna now have a couple more grapes and head to the gym for a 30min cardio session and some abs.

Let see how it goes!

So to fill you in on yesterday...

I went to the gym and did 3 sets of situps on the swiss ball and two on the floor on each side of my stomach. I also did 30mins of cardio on the epplitical at only 140 beats a minute...as I didnt wanna go crazy like on Sunday where I must have done 180 beats for an hour.

I then ate some rice, with some chinese bbq flavoured chicken stirfry with lots of carrots and peppers!

This morning....

Breakfast- I weighed out a proper 30g of bran flakes and had it with semi-skimmed milk.

Mid morn- had some grapes and mixed nuts

Lunch - three slices of rye crackerbread with a slice of ham and peanut butter on the other two (thinly scraped on)

It is now 3pm and I am feeling rather full.......will have an apple before I hit the gym....not sure whether to do 30mins cardio again or musculation...have felt like my toned-ness has gone since I was working at cardio level on Sunday for that hour.....so may rebuild some tone.

Hmmm

Not sure if I ought to start working at a lower heart rate for longer time to maximise being in the fat burning zone....... ANY IDEAS?

I've been doing steady state cardio for about 30mins so far, but I have been reading on here about HIIT (high intensity interval training). Its supposed to be really good for weight loss.
I am not up to the high intensity bit yet, but apparently (according to others on this site) even ordinary interval training is better than steady state.
By interval training I mean something like 1 minute slow, 1 minute fast, 1 minute slow, etc.
Its supposed to keep your metabolism up for longer and hence burn more calories.
I am now changing one of my SS cardio sessions into interval to see how it goes.

I was doing HIIT once/twice a week up until a couple of weeks when I found I was dying with excess gymin (was going 6 times a week!)...it is great as it makes the time pass so much easier!

Dont know if you read the earlier bit of my diary but I scared myself a little by going to hard and so have been doing constant steady cardio at the moment...today I got my heart rate back to 160...am planning to do a HIIT this weekend. I think I am upto it now.

Was just lookin at some other ppl at the gym that do lower level intensities that myself at constant and were burning similar amounts of cals...but I guess HIIT is a type of cardio that keeps working 24 hrs after too....

I overworked myself on constant level cardio by getting my heart rate to beyond 170-180 and doing it for an hour and having done two toning classes all on a small bowl of 150 kcal cereals!

Think I may go back to a combination of HIIT and steady cardio on my easier days!

So I had my apple at 3ish...

Went home and was peckish at 6pm so I had two naughty naughty ferreo rochers individual ones 75 cal each...not much cal so ok! I guess :s

Went to the gym for a 32min cardio session....cud have gone on for longer was really enjoyin myself but had a meeting with a friend before dinner...I did 3 sets of 20 situps on swiss ball and 2 sets of 30 side crunches...tomorrow gonna hit the musculation for 1.5 hours!


Had dinner at 830pm
Ate some jasmine rice with stirfried chicken with onion and peppers in the stirfry flavoured in soya and dried chilis.

I just loooooove stirfries but need to watch the rice! Note to self!

This whole diary business is making me more aware of what I am eating..started to count my calories more too!
LOVE IT! highly recommend anyone who is reading this and not started a diary to do it! GO DO IT NOW!
 
BTW after a week of regularish exercise and watching what I eat...I just weighed myself and I am now 79.1 kg (174 pounds)..this time last week I was...81.1kg (thats two kilo loss...wow now I look back I feel fab!)..so that was 178 pounds..
Iv now lost 6kg (13 pounds) in total since April...but at last I am starting to lose it again!
 
Wow, 2kg's in a week, that great.

As for HIIT. I tried it on Friday last week for the first time and it almost killed me :eek: .
I think I will stick to more moderate interval training for now.
I did a steady state 4 mile jog yesterday which is the furthest I have jogged. That was hard work as well, so I don't know if it is the HIIT or the SS, they both hurt, but no pain no gain!

Hey Penfold!

I worked myself up to completing 5km in 30mins jogging and then once I hit that I started HIIT!...it is a killer but what you can do to start is one min fast in ratio to two mins calming down....your heartbeat needs to chill down first before you start again...start at going only 15mins only!

Yeah I was shocked at losing two kg this week...iv been plateauing for 2 or 3weeks before I started this 'ld diary so really glad...just really hope it will continue...

Hope I will also get the motivation to burn as many calories whilst on holiday...being at the gym is so convenient...you do your 30mins or hour and then you're done for the day...on holiday my plans will be all over the place...plus I find being a machine stimulating...how the heck am I going to do as much of a work out! I dont find swimming as enjoyable or as effective..

hmmm....gonna have to get straight back into the gym after this 1 month holiday coming up!
