Whoa that's a awesome time on the 5K. And, you look stunning in that run. Great diet too, the banana is perfect for running, the potassium is so good for the muscles and things. And the tuna protein boost. You're an inspiration! Keep up the posting its really motivational for me and for everyone else I'm sure :hurray:

Great job, Sarah! You continue to be such an inspiration for me and so many readers. Keep up the amazing work!

Hey Alice29, so good to see you back! Thanks for you kind encouragement!

MaryAnnc and kj67, thanks for your encouragement...stick with it and you can do one of these too (if you want to!) ...if I recall, kj67 is out doing a volksmarch today! You go girl!

At the run yesterday, I saw my Dr, and she said she would email me the results from the physical and blood work. It was OK, but not as good as I would have liked or expected. A little high on the glucose and cholesterol...so I'm making some changes to my diet today I think...less red meat (easy here in China because good steak is hard to find!) and less white rice (hard to do because that's what they eat...brown rice is not easy to find believe it or not...it's looked on as "poor people's rice" and no one wants to be seen buying poor people's rice! Also, probably cutting down on watermelon and fresh pineapple as they are "high glycemic index" fruits and also cutting out the bacon I eat for breakfast sometimes as it has alot of fat and, I don't need it because I get plenty of protein from the eggs I eat. I already don't eat alot of other high starches or breads, so I'm not really sure where the other sugars are coming from...so I'll try these adjustments for awhile and then test again sometime to see if any change. I will also stop the "sweet n sour" pork I have many times for lunch (not alot in quantity, but I have it often as it's easy to get here), and replace that with some crockpot chicken or tuna or salmon and maybe the occasional steak.

None of these numbers caused the Dr concern...it's just higher than I expected and now I want to drive it down...probably will help me speed up my weight loss again too without losing muscle mass!

The fitbit is a good little device so far...it's keeping me motivated to get up and move around and I want to always make my goal of 10k steps...amazing how a little thing like that can motivate us to get up out of the chair or couch and just move! It's adding back calories into my mfp account, but I'm not paying attention to the extra amount I can eat...I'm still aiming to respect my calorie goal.

Have a great weekend ya'll and for those of you celebrating "Labor day", have a great one and keep making those great choices!!

Sarah

AHeya sweetie :)

I am so impressed with your 30 min 5km!!!! well done you :) Also it made me think 'oh bugger, i am way slower than that....i can't have that' so i upped my speed too and i did just under 5km in my 30 min run yesterday so thank you for encouraging me to do that.

Love and hugs Xxx

Hi Sarah, Hope you have pulled up ok from your run & are not hurting too much. I don’t think my joints would appreciate me running these days. It does put heaps of stress on them & I would be very frustrated if I could no longer do the things I enjoy. I might stick to cycling & walking I think. Hope all’s well with you xoxo Cate

YAY!!!

Glad you had a great race, I'm so glad you posted a pic of you finishing that was amazing you looked SO happy!! We're all proud of you and I know you are proud of yourself!! Just wanted to say how great you look finishing your race!!!!!!!!

GOOOO SARAH!!!!!

Congrats on the 5k race! Finishing with a smile on your face is quite an accomplishment :hurray:

Looks like you have a very solid plan for making small tweaks to your eating and I'm sure those numbers will fall in line quickly once you manage to find those tricky ingredients. Kind of amusing that the healthier option can be seen as a poor man's alternative to the "good stuff". By the same logic, shouldn't McDonald's be considered a five star experience in China?

Hey Sarah & all ,

congrat's again Sarah on the successful 5k ! way to rock ! :seeya:

- good to hear your MD results are ok - & your plan to fine-tune your diet ( reduce white rice,. reduce sweet/sour pork, decrease bacon) -should move those cholesterol & glucose numbers to perfect in no time.

~ my Labour Day weekend went ok - I did manage to keep alcohol in-control - 1 low-cal beer/day(115cal ea.) :troll: , and kept my snacking to veggie tray & some popcorn. & did lots of walks with Koko- was a bit cool/breezy- so outside walks were really enjoyable.

looking forward to a fresh new fall-time week of good choices,

wishing a good week to everyone,

Maryann C.

Scbibhouse, always and inspiration! Glad to hear the numbers of the tests weren't worrisome to the doctor, but glad to see your making an effort to improve them. Great job on the running also, you're doing great.

AHey everyone! Thanks for stopping by and giving me all that encouragement! I am ok after the 5k, and I walked, ran and rowed today after a rest day yesterday. I'm not sure about the weight loss these days...it's hard to tell the difference between normal fluctuation and weightloss or gain...not sure weighing 2 times/week is good for me on this new scale! I did wear my size 14 pants today that I got in the US end of July that were a little snug then, they fit me perfect now, so I know something is going somewhere!
I did the old mama gram and papsmear today...I should be up to date now on all my physical stuff! I will get those results next week, but they didn't say anything while I was there, which I take as a good sign. On the adjusTments I've made to my diet, I think they are good for me on all counts, and maybe it will jump start my weight loss again....something is making those slacks get looser!

The fitbit has also been a good buy...it is motivating me to take the stairs and get up and out more. Now in the morning after I exercise(on the 3rd floor of the hotel) I take the stairs to the 12th floor where I live..and today, I went up to the 20th and back down...would not have considered that before, so this is a good thing!
So that's about it for me!

Good choices to all,

Sarah

Sarah I see from your log since I've been following you that you are doing more and more every week. When I see that, it peps up my flagging motivation. Thank you!

Keep it up! The scale may not show a loss, but you know you're doing good when clothes start fitting the right way!

Wow Sarah - 17 flights up & down ??......that's major stair work - you are gonna have legs of steele...... :cheers2:

...I am betting you are building muscle these days...big time.

...good to hear the fitbit is giving you new inspiration for trying new exercise ideas.... anything to inspire you after 14months at this is so much welcomed I am sure....you are getting so close...anything to up your game & helping your last stretch to your goal is sooo good.

...keep it up gal - U inspire so many of us ....rememberrr.....if Sarah can do it .....we all have hope !

cheers ,

Maryann

Hi Sarah ,

had a bit of time this AM - have poked around our WLF site a bit more....found a couple resources for more inspiration ( not sure if you've checked any of these out yet...but thought you might find interesting...if you are looking for some fresh/new inspire these days)...

- under Newbies - they mention that fitday, thedailyplate, and sparkpeople are all good/reputable for diet resource sites ( I checked out fitday a bit this morning- if you type "series" on their search bar at top of page - you get links to their "best of" - highlites of their info...some of it quite similar to info here on WLF, but also some different ideas - looks like might be worthwhile for a peek ....

- our Newbies info also lists Lyle Mcdonald and tom venuto as resources for fitness.( I'm still at walking stage for my fittness at this point....but thought you might find some fittness tips interesting....ie...interval training? ( burn more calories in less time... etc.)

good choices,

cheers

Maryann c.

Hey Kj67 and Munch, and Maryannc

Thanks girls...it really helps! And I have some good news to report today...I'm down 4 pounds since 2 weeks! I'm FINALLY back to what I thought I was before I bought the new scale...this morning I weighed in at 178.4...finally back it the 170's)...if I was ever there to begin with...but I thought I was and that has a mental impact! We all know that weightloss is an inside job!

It's amazing how much power I give to numbers on a scale...even though I knew my pants starting fitting better...just had to have the confirmation...stupid but true! I think the little tweeks to my diet the past couple of weeks since the Dr visit have really helped...amazing how much impact some little changes (good and bad) can make!

The other up I had this week was I bought some cotton thin tops (not really like a sweater, but more like a really thin polo shirt) at a Japanese store...good quality, but tiny clothes...I've always likeed the clothes here, but they were always way too small...well, I tried on a XXL here and it fit...so I bought several..they feel great, look great and made me feel great...1st buy "off the rack" in China. Sounds bad to be happy about a XXL, but trust me, they are about a 12-14 looking blouse in the US by my minds eye...so I was happy. I'll post a picture when I get some.

Today I'm going to run early in the park..get the run done then veg out all day!

Good choices to all...we can do it...it takes some stick to it-edness, but it can be done...sucks, but true...there is no other way...just gotta work through those plateaus...and I can tell you it does work...I'm doing it again!! Pumped up now!

Sarah

Well done Sarah. Stick-to-it-ness is the key. We must have determination to get to where we want to be & you & I both know it & have it. Nothing comes easy. Congrats on the weight-loss & being able to buy off the rack clothing in China. You are doing very well Sarah! I would love to go back to Vietnam & be able to buy clothing at the markets. One day. xo Cate

Well done Sarah!

Being able to buy off the rack is fantastic! Especially when you think how much smaller the sizes are in different parts of the world. It's pretty amazing when you start comparing, and realizing that an XXL in China is more like a size L or M in another part of the world. Not all XXL are actually XXL I guess.

Coincidentally, I received an XXL sized shirt in the mail that I had ordered about 12 months ago and it came as a shock and a pleasant reminder of how far it's possible to come in the span of 12 months.

Thanks Cate, Feelinggooder and kj67! As always you all pick me up!

Yesterday, I ran a 10k (not a race, just the distance) in the park and felt really good. I've decided...as of today, I'm going to do the Great Wall marathon on 1 May 2013...there..I said it..it's going to happen now! Can't go back on that! I am going to sign up today and get the money in to do it! Commitment! After last week doing the 5k, my left foot hurt, so I wasn't sure...so I decided to stop my experiment of running on the balls of my feet trying to get my flat feet to become arched...well, that just wasn't happening, and my calves and feet hurt every time I ran..and lately, my left foot has been really sore to the touch around my arch. So after the race last weekend, I decided to stop that...so yesterday, I ran my normal "heel strike first" way, and it felt good..my left foot is still sore, so I may have to lay off running for a couple of weeks to get healed up...that's not a big deal because the train up is 6 months...and that means that I have to start the official training in November, so anything I do up until then is just good conditioning work! The rest of my body is fine..no aches, pains etc...so that's what has made me say "yes" to 2013 marathon. I have not idea yet how I'm going to get in the long runs and conditioning runs during the week with the cold weather and short days...but I'll figure it out! I figure that will be a good goal and help me continue to lose the weight so that by my vacation cruise date (Feb 2013), I should be in great fit shape and ready to rock a bathing suit or evening gown! Really looking forward to that!

Just wanted to share that...if I can do it anyone can! Come on over and do it with me!
