Sam's from Chunk to Hunk Journal :)

Hi Judy! :waving: I have a Woman's Running book, but not on me otherwise I might be able to look that up--callouses tell a little about things, too. I'd receommend going to a really specialized running store--I have Fleet Feet out here and it's the best, ever--the guy measured my feet, watched me walk, etc., and the shoes I ended up buying ($90, not cheap) are the best ever--I ran my first half marathon (13.1 miles) in them and didn't get a SINGLE BLISTER  Amazing! I also got my trail running shoes there, and I haven't rolled my ankle, since (before I was prone to it out on the trails). Running stores are worth it!
I would seriously appreciate any input you can give me.

My stepdaughter's SO works for Downtown Athletic and promised me his employee discount on shoes... But I'm not so sure he really knows anything about shoes or running. My stepdaughter has a bad track record with men and this one has spent time in prison and has only been out for about a year. I think Downtown Athletic gets some sort of compensation for hiring ex-cons.

I wanna be supportive ( I mean, he is working and does seem to care deeply for my stepdaughter and her 3 children who all have different fathers, none of whom are him)...but I don't wanna buy crap shoes from somebody who has no clue. If I buy shoes from him I think I need to know what I need before going into the store.

Oh...I'm kinda leaning towards the New Balance 872 Trail Runner.

Sorry for cluttering up your thread Sam...

No worries at all Judy :) I would love it if everyone could find the shoes that are designed for their specific feet. BTW, I did a 2 mile run in mine last night at the gym and they are like buttah!!! So much more room and ventilation in the front of the shoe, for my toes (where my old shoes lacked)... I did 2 miles on the treadmill and then 2 miles on the elliptical. Working my way back up to 3...

Food was decent yesterday. I've been eating the Greek Yogurt I've heard others talk about on here and I really like it. It has almost 3 times more protein in it compared to the Yoplait stuff I'd been eating for years. It is a little more expensive, and I have to go to Whole Foods to get it.... I plan on getting some more tonite after work, and then perhaps making a salad at their salad bar for dinner. I do want to go for another run tonite, later on...

I just downloaded a CD and I'm in love with it. It's this band called Vampire Weekend. I think they've been out for a little bit but they are indie and not that well known... I think they have a really fun sound :)

Judy: That's a tough bind. All in all, I'd say the most important thing is your feet's health, though. I'm not an expert but I say, get to a running store--it's worth it! Blister-causing shoes are MURDER! :ack2:

Sam: Glad you're running again! Yes, just a few months ago I started eating Greek yogurt and Mmmmmhh it's so much creamier and yummy! :drooling:

Hope you get a cool run!

So hey all :)

I feel like I haven't been in here for awhile, lol...

I went running yesterday, and did some elliptical. Doing the 3 miles felt good. I have to work overnight tonite, so I didn't exercise today, but I'm planning on it tomorrow. I went and got a bunch of vaccinations today for school here coming up. I also had blood drawn for my titers... My arm is pretty sore :(

I went grocery shopping today, so good food is in my fridge for this week and weekend. I'm way into these Greek Yogurts right now. I'm currently really diggin the fig flavor, and I also got some fig newtons because they've sounded good lately. I'm going to try to control myself on Thanksgiving but we shall see. I'm sure the drinks will be flowin' with this group I'm eating with this year, lol...

I'm covering this week at work, so my hours are kinda jumbled. I work tonight, tomorrow night and then have Thursday and Friday off, but work on Sat and Sun day, then start my new week again on Monday, and go thru till Thursday. I need the OT to help pay for books and stuff, so I don't really care.

Rick and I are still talking but, only as friends. We actually haven't hung out in over a week. Maybe next week, but i kinda leave things up to him because he's got such a busy schedule with work alone.

Glad you went running and did the elliptical--back on the wagon! :cheers2:

Greek yogurt and fig Newtons sound yummy--best wishes on maintaining composure on TG, you know alcohol lowers your resistance to overeating, LOL! I'm in trouble--I'm bringing like, 6 bottles of wine to my family gathering! And THEY are probably bringing just as many! We're all winos. HAHA!

Sorry about your busy work schedule :(

It might be best that you and Rick are not hanging out as much--sorry if it hurts, though :hug2:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! ENJOY FRIDAY OFF!

Thanks Val. My family are a bunch of winos too, so winos are good peeps ;)

Back at work tonite, overnight again... Hopefully the last one i have to do for awhile. I slept pretty well today considering. Hopefully tomorrow lets me get some sleep too, before dinner.

Found out that I show no immunity to my MMR titer I had yesterday, so basically 60 bucks finding that out, and now paying for the two vaccinations as well. My arm is pretty sore today, so I'm not exactly looking forward to my next visit to get shots again...

Picked up some beer tonite for tomorrow. I tried to go to the liquor store and there was a line out the door and into the parking lot, lol... I guess that should tell you something about Utah and it's "image", hehe... l

Not too much else to report. Running again on Friday for sure. I gotta get myself back into that mode, I want December to be very productive in helping me get back into a semi-routine, so that it's semi-established by the time school starts mid Jan and I have a chance of hanging onto it ;)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone tomorrow!

Hey all :)

Thanksgiving was great. Entirely too much food, and too much work but, I think that is the story every year with me. I'm excited to get back on track this next week. I thought getting to the gym would have been easier this weekend but my shifts at work were long and I had to flip my body in a day and a half (graveyards to all days), which I'm still not very good at...

This next week I plan on getting to the gym at least 5 times, no matter what. I don't feel like I've completely fallen off track, I just need to get right back up there and keep getting the cardio in everyday... and make some better food choices.

I have school starting in Jan, and I'm sure I think about it every couple of minutes, all day long, lol... I have a lot of things I'm trying to get done before my deadlines, so that I can proceed into this program.

Not too much else to report. I feel kinda chubby, bloated and yucky from all the festivities that had surrounded this week. I don't regret anything at all, I just gotta get my ass back in gear.

-Sam

Hey Sam, glad to hear you had a nice thanksgiving. I can imagine it being hard to get on a good routine working graveyard shifts... I'm sure you will get it all worked out by the time school starts... its hard to balance everything but you will get the swing of it eventually.

I too am trying to get back on track... I think its the story of my life!

Anyway, happy Sunday!! :)

Hello all :)

So i've definitely been MIa in here lately... My exercise and eating habits haven't been the greatest... I don't know what my deal is lately. Today has been good tho, eating wise but, believe me I'm fucken white knuckling it, hehe...

Yesterday I went on a cleaning binge around my house and organized almost everything imaginable, and managed to put up all the Christmas decorations!!! :santa: I felt pretty damn proud of myself.

Trying to get things ready for school. Bought some of my textbooks online and saved a bundle, go me... Been getting more shots, but now I'm good for a month or so, so that is nice. I have a CPR training course I have to go do this weekend for 3 hours... It'll be nice to have that outta the way too. I've been working my ass off here the past few weeks and I will have a four day weekend this next one, so I'm stoked I must say.

Geting any running in lately Sam? I may be joining the ranks of those at least attempting to run soon. I'm going to pick up a decent set of shoes.. You said you were an overpronater right? What have you tried? I have the same issue, my ankles (especially my right one) roll inward due to shitty arches. Any suggestions on shoes?

Hope you holidays are going well so far...

Hey :)

I did just get a new pair of running shoes, they are called the Brooks Beast. I like them a lot, probably the best shoe I've owned yet. I made sure and got a 1/2 size bigger than I normally would. I found them on Ebay for about 75 bucks, kinda pricy I know but I prefer to have a shoe that somewhat fits my type of foot rather than one that tears it to shreds, lol... I also had a pair of Asics (can't remember the exact model) before this new pair that were really good as well... Hope that helps, and I need to get more running in for sure!

-Sam

Right now I got involved in this crazy challenge between Wishes and T2_trucker to lose 30 lbs... It's a little nuts in there! Smack talk flyin' all over!!

Anyway, I've stepped up my cardio by crosstraining whenever possible, and I have access to an indoor suspended track, which I'd like to start the C to 5K on. I had an Asics Gel Foundation recommended to me by a friend, I've got to find a decent place to get properly fitted near me anyhow, just to know for sure. I'll check out the Brooks Beast also.

The Brooks Beast is for sure a heavy-duty shoe. It's specially designed for bigger guys who over-pronate. I would totally recommend it to you.

That's awesome your thinking about doing the Cto5K program. I loved it when I was doing it. I'm trying to drag my ass back into running, that I might start it up again, just because it helps me develop a routine again.

Hey Sam, I have no doubt you'll be back on the wagon soon! Ya got the damn shoes!!! LOL!! Congrats for your cleaning spree! I had way too much fun this weekend and let the chores go....I better get UP and get ON it!

Sammy, get out there and run! You were doing so great till the pollen attacked you. You should be good now. Run, Sammy, RUNNNNN!!! :D
