Sam's from Chunk to Hunk Journal :)

Hello all...

Made it to the gym this morning. Did Biceps/Triceps with the trainer. My Biceps and Triceps are probably the part of my body that is the weakest at this point. I just don't get as much joy out of training them as other parts of my body, so they are a little neglected I would say. Here is what the workout looked like today:

20lb 3x20 Tricep Kickbacks
25lb 3x20 Tricep Exercise above head...
30lb 3x25 Bicep Hammer Curl with barbell
12lb dumbell, do basic bicep curl for 30sec while holding other dumbell up, then switch... kind of hard to explain, and kind of harder than it sounds
3x20 Assisted dips for triceps on machine...

I then followed this with Week 2 Workout 2 of the Couch to 5K. I can't remember my distance exactly but, I did crank up the speed. My walking part is at 4.2 and the running is ranging from 6.5 to 7.0. I'm glad I am really working on bringing up the speed of the running portions. I can't wait until I am running the whole 3 miles at like 7.5 or so!

Food is at it's usual. I am snacking on some candy today. I know I shouldn't be. I will still come in under my caloric mark for the day though, so that is a plus... Still need to get a lot of the candy out of sight and reach. No more candy!!!!!! No more.

Just calculated the cals though and I'm at 1250 about, so not too bad. It's 530 and I still gotta eat some dinner in awhile.... I can do it. I think my calorie goal per day is going to be 1800-2000. I think that is a reasonable goal for me, especially if I keep my workouts up like i plan.

Hi Sam, I feel like I haven't been by your diary in months! Good to see your doing well and still working hard on the weights. I love the AVI by the way!

I think your calories are perfectly in check, and candy BLAH! what's a small piece every now and again, as long as it doesn't pull you over your intake for the day, and as long as your not substituting it for a meal, which we all know your not, then I say give in to your occasional craving and have a piece. I love to have a good starburst handy so if I'm at work and feeling the need for something sweet, I reach in an grab one, and usually that does it for me.

Keep up the great work, I'm so pleased to see your still going strong!
Hugs
Kim

Hey Kim. I haven't talked to you in awhile. It's nice to hear from you.

Today I did Plyometrics with my trainer, and then gasp, didn't do my cardio. I'm sorry but from all the lunges, jumps, hops, etc. in the plyo workout, my legs were done... So, I plan on getting the Week 2 Day 3 done tomorrow for the C25K.

Eating was all good yesterday, although there was a little more candy in the menu than I should have. I haven't really had any today tho. I had some chicken chili with a string cheese melted into it for lunch, and a protein shake with a banana mixed in for breakfast. I'm planning on a greek salad with a big old chicken breast cut up into it for dinner... So happy because I know today is Wednesday but for me it's my Friday at work. Hooray! Just 7 more hours to get thru till then....

Hope everyone is having a great day.

That dumbbell curl you are tyring to explain up there.. It has a specific name (if it's the same one I'm thinking about) where you are constantly using the muscle of both arms with no rest.. like on the down part of the rep you stop at parallel to the floor and hold it while the other goes up and down to that same parallel place and then back up with the other?? Is this it?

BTW, that's some pretty kickin weight up there with those triceps. =) :hurray:

MMMM I'm currently drooling over your menu, I love all of that stuff you mentioned, and what great protein you got in for the day, WELL DONE!!
And I know what you mean about skipping certain workouts, yesterday I took a Kick N Abs class and usually I'll go afterward and do some circuit, NO WAY I as so exhausted I could barely keep my eyes open. Things we do for our bodies right?? LOL LOL it's all good!!
Great job!
Kim

"Plyometrics" means "Mistress of Pain" really. hahaaa I don't blame you for not getting cardio in, because Plyo alone would be killing a bitch. haha Hey, beautiful one!

Your menu sounds exquisite, Sammy! Damn.. now you have my fiending a greek salad. I'm so happy to see you busting that fine bum off at the gym, doll. Keep it up, you frickin' stunner you!

Sorry I haven't been on much, but you sound like you are doing great & hopefully you'll get in that cardio during your "weekend". :D

Wow. It's so nice to hear from you all.

Made it to the gym yesterday and did 60 minutes of cardio. Planning on starting Week 3 Day 1 of the C25K program tonite at the gym. I didn't make it to the gym as much as I thought I would this weekend (complete laziness). I plan on hitting it as much as I can this week but, my work schedule is different, so that might be an obstacle.

I made myself a greekish salad again today for lunch. I forgot to throw craisins in it (I keep forgetting that I bought them, chickpeas too for that matter...)

BTW Tasha, that dumbell curl does have a specific name because I remember my trainer telling it to me a while back... I can't remember what its called, just that it sucks :)

Shaved my beard and hacked off all my hair again, and dyed it again. Went from having light brown hair with blonde highlights and it was longer, back to a black fauxhawkish do again. I can't believe how much I change my hair and stuff. Many of my friends are stylists and talk me into a lot. Plus I like to keep it fresh, I get bored easily. In a couple of months I will probably put a ton of blonde in it... Perhaps I will post a pic of the new do...

-Sam:)

I love people who are brave enough to take the risk frequently with their hair! Sounds fun, but I just don't have the guts. Only real change I have made was going from playboy blonde to adding in some low light so it looks more natural!

Hope you are having a wonderful day & good luck with the C25k program. You know about the iTunes podcasts right? PODRUNNER:Intervals & another called Podcast for Running. Have fun with it! :D

Thanks Moon. I do take some risks with my hair I guess. But, I am a guy and it doesn't take too long for it all to grow back and start over if I don't like it... My friend actually just got her hair drastically cut for the first time in her life. She had the same long brown hair to the upper-mid part of her back for almost 20 years. Then, a couple weeks ago one of our stylist friends talked her into hacking it into a very blunt A-line cut. She did it and it looks awesome. She's glad she did it.

So, so so.... Big news. I made it to the gym at 655am this morning!!!!! WooHoo!:party::party:

This is a pretty big deal for me because I usually don't get up for the gym that early. I always set my alarm but I usually shut it off when it starts to go off in the morning and then I don't even remember doing it. Well this morning I set my alarm for 630am and woke up. I really wanted to stay in bed but I couldn't let myself do it. I knew that it was my only oppurtunity during this whole day that I would be able to make it to the gym. I knew if I didn't make it I would feel like shit (guilty and probably physically) for the whole day and probably ruin my day before it had even begun, lol. I also knew I had to get my Week 3 Day 1 workout of the C25K in and I couldn't slip any further behind. So, I made it. I didn't do weights but I did do my running and got thru 2.65 miles in 30 minutes.

Last night had full intentions of getting to the gym as well but I ended up staying home and having a few friends come over to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I only had 2 glasses of red wine, so I feel alright about it. Cals were a little high yesterday but I can only do better today.

I work tonite until 10pm. I then plan on going home and eating a salmon burger with some steamed asparagus or broccoli, or even cooked spinach to go with it... and watching some mindless TV and falling asleep :)

-Sam

OOOOO a man after my own heart, RED WINE, my favorite! good choice if I may say so myself. BIG PROPS for getting to the gym bright and early, I could never do that, I'm a after work gym kind of gal, mornings I don't function until at least 10:00 am and everyone around me knows that. LOL LOL

I love the idea of the Greek Salad, MMMMM and craisins are awesome!! What a very good choice there too. Your just doing great all around, keep up the awesome work.

Oh, and yes hair changes are great! I'm the same way, I get bored with my hair all the time and always like to change it up, I haven't colored it in a long time, but I just got it layered real nice, always a good pick me up too.

Have a great day, and good luck the remainder of the week.
Kim

So, didn't make it to the gym bright and early like i did yesterday morning. I was so tired and needed the extra sleep. I'm at work today right now and get off at 10pm again. I can't decide if I should go to the gym afterwards or if I should just go home and eat a little somethin and call it a night... Still deciding, lol.

Food has been pretty decent today. Easter candy is kind of laying around so i've been trying to limit it as best as I can... it's so good though:drool5: I've been eating a lot of salad lately and today went to the grocery store and stocked up on some ingriedients for it.

I also purchased some wireless headphones to start using with my Ipod at the gym. Im so sick of my earbuds and the cord always bugging me while I'm running. Hopefully they get here soon so I can try them out.

Today, here in SLC was the highest temperature we've had so far this year. It was 63 degrees, and tomorrow is the first day of Spring. I'm so ready for it. Last weekend we had a blizzard Sat. nite and it sucked. So sick of snow.

ttyl,
Sam

hello all...

So, at 2135 cals for the day and 150 grams of protein. Wish the cals were under 2000 but I just had to eat chocolate today, again, lol.... At least it was mostly dark chocolate, right? I plan on going to the gym tonite after work and getting in a core routine and some much needed cardio. Then, tomorrow if I get up early enough and am not too tired I might go run in the morning as well, and weigh myself. We will see.

I've been trying harder than I normally do this week and hope to see some results on the scale. I've even bought myself some jeans from Abercrombie that are size 32's. I hope if I try them on every other week or so, it might give me some more motivation. I did this when I was a 38 and wanted to get into a 36 and from a 36 to a 34 and now I am a pretty loose/comfortable 34 in most jeans.

Hope everyone is having a great Thursday. Lucky for me I have tomorrow off from work finally but have to work overnite on Saturday...

-Sam

Must have been a chocolate take over day or something, Sam, because I was craving it so badly last night. I also had a severe craving for a Bahama Mama, but I didn't have all the ingredients.

I hope you have a nice enjoyable day off and good luck working overnight tomorrow.

How's the c25k coming?

Hey Tasha.

I've been keeping up with the C25K pretty well. I just finished Week 3 Workout 3 today, so I will be ready to start on Week 4 on Monday. I did 30 minutes on the cross-trainer today before I even started the treadmill, and then did 30 minutes on it. So, 60 minutes of cardio today, but I didn't do any weights... I need to really start keeping up with those weights workouts, I kind of feel like I'm neglecting certain parts of my body a little bit.

I made it to the gym Thurs night and Fri night as well. It felt good. Yesterday my wireless headphones came in the mail, so I tried them out last night. I really like them. They are a little tight on my big ears though, lol.

I let myself eat whatever yesterday, because I had been pretty good all week... I kind of overdid it, so I'm glad I tried to kill the damage with 40 minutes of cardio.

Tomorrow I'm going to my dad's for Easter Dinner... We will see how that goes. I'm definitely going to need some wine to be able to tolerate his wife, lmao :beerchug:

Hope everybody is having a nice Easter Weekend:)

-Sam

Sam - glad to see things are going well. I may try out the jean thing - well in fact I do it already - it is a good way to monitor progress - what is good is that with measuring the waist you can always pull harder (or weaker). But those jeans will stay the same size!

Just got done with the gym about 2hrs ago. I went while I was on a break (few hrs) from work. I don't usually go to the gym when I do this. I feel so productive. It was so nice to be able to do that.

I finished Week 4 Day 1 of the C25K. I didn't follow the intervals exactly but, close enough. I don't do the podcast either because I like my own music I guess. I will follow the exact intervals for the next workout. I did 15 minutes on the Elliptical before the run, and before that I did 20 or 25 minutes on my chest/back/shoulders. Here is what I did:

Chest Press 3x20 at 75lbs
Butterfly 3x20 at 90lbs
Standing leaning-over Back Row thing 3x20 with a 35lb plate on it
Incline Press with dual axis thing, 5 times at 40-50lbs
Lat pulldown 3x20 at 62.5lbs
Shoulder shrugs 3x20 with 35lb plates on each side
Arnold Press 3 sets counting to 8 with 5lb weights

Not sure if it is the best chest/back exercise routine. It's kind of one I came up with on my own and I feel like it does have more machines than my trainer would have put in...

Today, while running on the treadmill, I watched two guys doing Plyometrics with Kettle balls. I was in envy of some of what they were doing. I've done Plyometrics a few times but I'm still am a complete novice. They are an amazing workout though.

It has been beautiful weather here for the past few days. If it holds up I think I need to go running outside this weekend. I really want to start doing that too.

Have a great night,
-Sam
