Sammie's Battle with the Belly

Hello Everyone,

I'm new on this site and I just wanted to say hello. I am a 22 year old college student in Australia, and at 5'5 i currently weigh 140 pounds. My eating has been spiraling out of control lately, and it has caused me to rocket 10 pounds above my comfortable weight of 130. All of the weight seems to gather in my midsection. I have never had a flat stomach and I wonder if this will always be this way. I work 5 days a week for roughly 2 hours each day, and know that losing weight is just a matter of burning more calories than i consume. The problem is that attending uni and eating in the dining halls and with friends I find myself overeating. I am taking in more calories than I need and can't seem to stop. I started this because I am flying home to see family in 2 months and would love to look healthy then. Also, I would love to have a stomach that I was proud of at the beach for once. Losing weight is a struggle, and I have so much respect and admiration for those who have been successful, especially with large amounts of weight lost. I would really like to loose 15 pounds in 8 weeks, and I just need support. I am motivated and know what I should do, but doing it is another thing. Does anyone battle with tummy fat like I do? Any tips on how to stop overeating and eating when I'm not hungry? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Sammie,

I am sure that you know the basics. Eat healthy food and try and cut out as much of the junk as possible.

A couple of things that you may not know
- some diet drinks are almost as bad as full calorie ones because they contain all sorts of salts that cause you to retain water
- try and drink 2 litres (or 64 fluid ounces) of cold water each day.
- try and do some form of exercise. I have achieved a lot by walking. If you get a pedometer (they are fairly cheap) you can wear it all the time and see how many steps you do each day. A lot of authorities recommend that we should all aim to do 10,000 steps each day.
- if you are prone to want to nibble - try and divert yourself to fruit and raw veg

If you look in everyone's diaries you will see what we are all doing. Also you may want to sign up for the challenges - I know that there is a November weight loss challenge being started not to mention pedometer buddies. Also the weigh yourself every day club may help keep you focused.

Take care
Good luck with your goals
Best wishes
Margaret
