Revamping my motivation!

Hi all!

I'm new to the site and want to dive right in!

I've always been a chubby girl, and in college I ballooned (darn those happy hours I was finally legal for). After college, I was pushing 200 lbs. I spent 6 months rocking a fantastic diet and exercise plan, and lost 30 lbs! This was about 4 years ago, and I've kept it off ever since.

Last summer I started working out again. I lost another 10 lbs between then and December. Woohoo, especially since my gym time was rather sporadic. It's the smallest I've ever been!

Now enter January - present day. I go to the gym 3-5 times a week, eat healthy....and I haven't lost another pound! The cravings still get me (which is where I need my most motivation; when I try so hard and nothing has worked, it makes it hard to stay away from the ice cream) and I don't think I've got the diet cracked yet. I eat healthy foods, but I'm still eating more calories than I am aiming for....but if I don't eat that many calories, I get SO hungry. And I'm talking I eat about 1900 calories a day, minus 500 that I burn off from working out, so I'm netting 1400 a day. Definitely still in the healthy range! What to do??

The eating plan I had before doesn't work for my schedule now, so I need something new. I can't get away from my work to have a snack. I basically need to eat breakfast, wait 4-5 hours to eat lunch, Then dinner is another 6 hours later (3-4 hours to finish my shift, about 2 hours of gym/getting home time). I get so hungry after dinner, that is where those extra calories come in.

Any advice? Thanks!

Hayley, welcome! Glad you've joined us.

I'm not sure what I have in terms of advice but I maybe have some perspective to offer? :)

I couldn't help thinking while reading your post how great it is that you already have made going to the gym and working out on a regular basis a habit! That is so, so wonderful. You are already like a zillion steps ahead. I can offer some personal experience that has helped me keep the cravings at bay. I usually try to incorporate healthy fiber-rich foods which keep me full for a long time. There are tonssss of foods that are high in fiber, a simple Google will return lots of results.

Are you also drinking lots of water? That can be a huge difference maker. The old adage "don't drink your calories" is so true. I actually used to be a diet soda addict (Diet Coke..blahhh!) thinking that since it was calorie-free that it wouldn't hurt my diet. WRONG! Once I cut the diet soda out, I noticed the scale trending downwards.

Anyways, welcome again! It is such an exciting journey. Hope I was able to offer even a little bit of help. Looking forward to hearing about your amazing progress that I know you will make!!!

Hi Ava! Thank you for your kind words!

I do have a decent amount of fiber in my diet, but it certainly can't hurt to take another look at recipes and snacks that will aid in that. I drink primarily water and green tea, so no soda for this girl! I think that's what gets me so frustrated....I put a lot of thought into everything I eat and drink! I balance protein with carbs with healthy fats, I try to keep my vitamin and mineral consumption up, I try to keep my fat and sodium levels down, I've stopped drinking alcohol and soda, only drink water and tea...AHHHH! lol.

Thanks for the suggestions! Just knowing there are others to offer suggestions is the biggest motivator to KEEP WITH IT! Plus, if typing keeps my hands busy, I can't be eating!

Trust me, I understand. I am a high anxiety, high energy person. I know that If I do not keep myself occupied I will turn right to food. That seems pretty frustrating. Have you talked to your doctor about it? If you are following a healthy diet/exercise maybe there is some other reason for the lack of results? I only suggest that because I have friend who did all she could, saw no results, and ended up having a thyroid issue. Just a suggestion if you feel like you have tried everything.

Sorry you have run into such a frustrating issue. I wish I had the answers for you! But I hope you are able to resolve it because it sounds like you've been working pretty hard! Anyways, I'm here to support you no matter what! :)
