I'm making a poll!

The forum seems naked without the rep system!

There's been so many time's someone has said something good to me (either helping/something funny/a compliment etc) and there's not really a quick way to show appreciation without rep.

It's not about the rep power, it's simply about the comment you recieve for a good reputation :D

Even if you could give a rep & comment without the rep bar i would be happy.

Anyway who wants it back.............Anyone.....?

yeah, I miss my red rep bar......:bncry:

Rep is a tricky thing, especially on Fitness Forums.

A lot of new members will tend to associate a member being very knowledgeable about Diet/Fitness being that their rep power is high. This is sometimes not the case and when this member gives advice to the "newbie", more times than less the advice is skewed. When the "newbie" starts to do some research on their own and finds out that this advice may not be the best, it can possibly detour them from re-visiting this forum.

Don't get my wrong, I like the rep system, but my feelings are that it may not be in the best interest of a Fitness forum.

hey I hear ya....:)

It's too bad there isn't some way to use it without it implying "knowledge"...Too bad there isn't some other way to leave a quick note to someone and let them know....

I know someone mentioned PM's but I block mine only to "contacts" (due to past experiences) so I can't get a message unless it is someone I already know.....

Understand completely!

But what about a rep system that didn't show a rep bar, just a system that you could give positive & negative comments to people.

i no im still sorta a 'noob' but i think it would be good if you had like rep catorgories - so people who know their fruits and diets and what not can have that, while triathletes for example can look after the bike and run section. But thats just my thoughts.

A lot of noobs also look at the number of posts you have made here or years spent here too. There are many influences at work here. It’s up to knowledgeable members to point out bad advice that may be passed.

I also agree with this :love1::love1::luxlove::love1::luxlove::love1::luxlove::ironing::ironing::ironing:

Also.

If a member has all of these, number of years, posts, and high rep, it is a good indicator that you are getting decent help. But it is still up to each of us to keep all of us in check and to debate an issue out.

Good Point JohnnySolo.

It does get a bit tiring after 3 years of trying to weed out the good and bad tho....lol.

yea, besides the clickyness with the rep system, it is misleading. People can leave comments on the person's profile page ... that's not a bad way to get recognized. It's public & private at the same time.

well, I have *everything* set to private, which means only contacts can see my profile or leave a message there. But people could still rep message me whether they were on my contacts or not.

I don't necessarily want to *see* reps, but I liked the feature that you could send the message via rep......

But I understand what you are saying......:cool3:

How about what I have seen on some forums: A Thanks system? The user title line has something like: : "Give a thank you for this post" When the user clicks it they can add any comment they wish. Then in the user title line, it would say: "The user received X number of thanks for this post contribution"

And, it can be modied/changed later?

Thoughts?

I like that! Just a simple "thanks" It would even be cool, if it didn't say:

"The user received X number of thanks for this post contribution"

I think it is still the same "principle" as having a regular rep system. JMHO.
