Rehabilitation

Ive recently broken my ankle (well 5 weeks ago actually) and doctor has said for me to start rehabilitation firstly by using partial weight bearing which I did and then to start full weight bearing (which was 2 days ago)

Im struggling!! :(

When I walk without my crutches I simply cant. I kind of hop out of each step from my injured leg.

My birthday is coming up on over a week and I want to be able to walk for it as I want to go out but I just cant seem to master it.

Has anyone got any tips?? Im currently using the towel wrap where i pull on the bottom of my ankle with a towel but it doesnt seem to be helping.

Also as im laid in bed just about all day and unable to go to the gym anymore do you have any suggestions for effective upper body strengthening. I have about 60kg in dumbells n barbells but when I use the bench press at the gym I can do 70kg and also can curl 80kg so I dont have enough. Do you have any suggestions on that aswell??

The main problem though is the weight barring. I would very much appreciate any help I can get on how to apply my full weight onto to my ankle

Thanks

What exactly did you do to your ankle? "Broken ankle" is not that specific. Do you mean sprained or you actually broke a bone? Was it an avulsion?

how about calling your doctor and saying "I can't do it. I need some proper physical therapy so it finishes healing correctly."

no one here is an M.D. and if they were they still wouldn't know what exactly was damaged in your ankle.
hell, maybe your doctor didn't set it right and it healed incorrectly. I dunno, I've never had a broken bone in my life.

Its a broken fibula (bottom part connecting my ankle) and also the ligaments were stretched and surgery had to be done to correct them.

I know u cnt suggest much but what exercises could I do to strengthen a normal ankle with-out standing on just the one ankle

ive tried the towel wrap as ive said but i dont know any others

Malkore I'm sure the doctor set the ankle right.
Fitnesscom I would talk to your doctor about it but each day you will see a little more progress in weight bearing. As frustrating and painful as it may be you have to start bearing weight on that foot. The best healed bones are those that are introduced to weight bearing early on. It stimulates blood flow and bone healing processes.
