So i have decided to get my life together. I am 6'1 and 339 pounds. My goal weight is 280 or less.


Just a run down on about me and my life....


Ive been over weight most of my life, but have gotten worse in the past 5-6 years. I have IBS and sleep apnea. I am very self consious of my big gut and man boobs. I get bigger shirts so they do not make me look at fat but i still know the truth inside. I fix appliances and have trouble in some jobs because its harder to squeeze in smaller places. I notice that doing a simple enough job i end up sweating alot which is embarrising because I know its because Im over weight. I am driving all day so fast food has been the easy way out. I normally eat mcdonalds or taco bell. I know its not good at all for me. I have had alot of problems to staying motivated. I get the feeling that i hate my self but then i get to the point where im like f*** it, im fat who cares. But I do care. I am tired of seeing so many great clothing for my favorite sports team (St Louis Cardinals) but not in my size. I now wear 3x or 4xl shirts. Most stores carry up to 2xl so its very hard to find a shirt I like, I usually find something that looks ok and fits.


My plan... I plan to start eating way better. No more fast food! No more soda!! I usually only drink 1 soda at lunch, but going to quit that. I drink a slim fast shake for breakfast and drink water or propel threw out the day. Lunch will be brought from home or stop at subway and have a salad. Not a fan of vegetables and i know that will hurt my journey. Trying to figure out good lunch ideas for on the go no microwave....any tips?? Dinner I will try to do better in that area.


Exercise...now it consist of nothing. Doing a little bit of physical work for my job but other than that, nothing else. I am going to start walking outside or at the gym for atleast 45-60 minutes every day. Maybe do a little on the eliptical and weight lifting.


I hope to keep this up, hopefully getting on here will keep me motivated. Seeing other people's journey is very impressive and I know that can be me in 6 months or more.
 
AStarting a diary is a good step in the right direction :)

don't try to do to much to quickly with the exercise, your body will need time to adapt to the new exercise schedule, to much to soon leads to injury. Get started with the walking then add in the other exercise gradually.
 
Well me and wife decided to start walking tonight. Just walked for 45 minutes around my neighborhood and walked a total of 1.8 miles!! :hurray: Great start!
 
Hey Red, I know the pain you're describing - even when I was thin I had moobs, but now they're horrendous. I'm down almost 30 from when I started.


In terms of colder foods with no veggies, I like this recipe: http://www.zonya.com/pdf/recipes/Oven_Baked_Lentils.pdf. I've changed up the spices to go with a Mexican flavoring (and added black olives). It's better hot, but it's fine cold. I also like it in taco shells. Take a look around that Zonya site, too, there may be some other options.


Do you like fruit? Maybe a mid-morning banana and/or some yogurt will get you to lunch to make some better choices. If you give into fast food, there are some options on each of those menus. WHen I go out to with coworkers to Taco Bell, I grab from the fresca menu and load them up with sauce.

good luck w/ everything! Hope you figured some food ideas out, if not, here are some of the things i like to take for lunch that you don't need a microwave for and are pretty healthy. I didnt used to like vegetables that much (mostly because I never ate them), but once i got used to idea and forced myself to try them, i LOVED them. I feel so good after eating a bunch of steamed broccoli, hahaha. Hopefully it will be like that for you too :)


For simple lunch ideas, you could have celery w/ peanut butter and raisins on it (its really good), or carrots w/ hummus, or pasta and broccoli w/ tomato sauce, or a veggie burger w/ an avocado cut up on it.
 
One week update!


So I have been eating healthier every day! Not one day of fast food when it was every day for lunch. Not one soda either! Me and wife have been walking 2-3 miles every day to every other day. Well I wasnt expecting to lose any weight the first week....well after 1 week I have lost 7 pounds!!! :hurray::party:

well done keeping away from the fast food and soda, and even better was getting in the regular exercise :)
 
Still sticking with it. Walking more and more each time. Noticed that walking the same distance about 2 miles took me 10-15 minutes less!! I havent ate any fast food and not one soda!! Just got my gym membership back today so gonna start going to gym to work out. Gonna walk most of the time and maybe some eliptical! Plan on just walking fast and then by time I get more used to it...walk 5 minutes and jog for 1. I plan on continue this.


Birthday is coming up in a few days and i know my parents will probally take me out somewhere for dinner. I know i might have to cheat a little but plan on watching what i eat and be picky on what i choose to eat.
 
Just did a 50 minute work out at the gym. 5 minute fast walk then a 1 minute jog and repeat for 50 minutes! I feel good too and not tired. I plan to keep this up every day. Hope to soon do a 5 minute jog and 1 minute run, repeat!!
 
So i been going at it for 2 weeks. Eating healthy, no fast food and still no soda. My birthday was on Wednesday and I went to 54th Street bar and grill. I had a cajun chicken sandwich. Comes with chicken in cajun spices, grilled onions and peppers on a long hoagie style bun...well i ate it without the bun and had a salad instead of fries.


I have also been working out everyday just about for 45 minutes to a hour. Do a fast walk for 5 minutes (3.3 speed on treadmil) and 1 minute jog (4.5 speed) that I repeat for the 45 mins to hour. I have been doing this every day.


I just did my 2 week weight in. First week I lost 7 pounds. 2nd week i lost 5 pounds!! Total so far of 12 pounds!! :hurray:

Well done! Just read your journal and you are definitely going to be an inspiration to many people on here. Including myself!


Reading about your motivation just helped me choose an apple instead of a sandwich with some processed meat....(I think its meat).

Thanks Flumes! I noticed that putting in 100% and seeing results pushes me so much more. I'll list my snack and food's i eat just for example for others so you have an idea on what I eat, incase it can help you!!


For breakfast I have a slim fast (aldi brand...cheaper and taste just as good)

Sometimes I'll have a banana or grapes instead


Snacks are a big thing now. I try to have a snack in between breakfast-lunch and lunch-dinner and one after dinner. Thing is to try not to get too hungary. One thing i tell my wife, have snack between meals...but have it under 200 calories!!


My snacks are

100 cal snack packs. Choc covered pretzels or fudge stripe cookie

Dill pickle or banana peppers

pistachio are my fav!

100 cal popcorn

Hard boiled egg

Low Fat yogurt

fruit

fig newton


They make apple slices that I love. They sell a container with 6 or 8 packages in it. Each package contains probally a whole apple already sliced no seeds. Very juicy and tastes amazing!! Easy on the go and only 30 calories!! If you are at home, I have a little natural peanut butter with it for a little protein.


Lunches


Since im on the go, the choice is kind of limited


Tuna Salad- Tuna, light miracle whip, hard boiled egg, dill pickle. I eat this on a cracker

Ceasear Salad- (I buy pre packaged mix from aldi-comes with lettuce, dressing, crutons, parmesean cheese) and I put a little bit of sliced up turkey lunch meat from the deli

Subway- I go usually once a week, maybe twice. Not over do it on dressing, getting white or wheat bread.


Dinners vary on what me and wife choose. Just knowing what is healthier.


One thing I do cheat on is Taco bell maybe once a week. But i do eat alot better there. Instead of my old normal 2 bean burritos (370 cal each! WOW) and 1 taco (190 cal). I eat 2 pintos and cheese (170 each) and maybe a chicken soft taco (170 each). Just knowing not to each there much but if i do, know to eat the healthier things.


Hope any of this information helps someone. I do not like vegetables AT ALL! And I am loosing weight by eating healthy and working out without them.

Oh yes. Water water water. I drink alot! I drink propel alot too which is good for you, very little sugar or calorie. Grape is my favorite.


Another think i like to drink that gives flavor is Mondo! It is like a juice drink for kids in the snack/juice isle. Small in size but one or two with a meal is perfect for me. They are only 20 calories per. I drink grape and punch. A 6 pack at the store is only a buck! Great way to have flavor with very little sugar or calorie.
 
Me and wife still sticking with it. Went to gym every day. Walking 5 jogging1 for 40-45 mins each day. Today i decided to up it.


I was on the treadmil for 35 mins doing my 5walk/1jog and then got on the elliptical! We were on that for 20 mins!!! I know the ellipitcal is great workout and gives a great full body burn. I know i was sweating up a storm. Plan on start to do the treadmil for 20-30 and elliptical for 20+
 
Did my 3 week weigh in and loss 5 more pounds!!! Total of 17 pounds in 3 weeks. Im sticking to this so good!
 
How long before I start noticing body changes? Around how many pounds? I took before and now pics and I dont see a difference but my wife says she does.
