Recovering from college, getting ready for a wedding

Hi everyone!

I've decided to start losing weight. Back in high school, I was 5'3" and 133 lbs -- a fine weight. ...then I went to college.

Over my 4 years of college, I ballooned up to 230 lbs, mostly due to lots of cola and emotional eating due to stress. I graduated in June 2009. That summer I managed to lose 10 lbs through a combination of exercise and home-cooked meals. In the fall, I started working, which drastically reduced the amount of time I had available. Since then, I've hovered around 220 lbs.

A few weeks ago, my boyfriend proposed to me. We decided to have the wedding in 2 years. By then, I'd like to be down to the weight I was in high school, about 135 lbs.

I plan to post my progress Saturday mornings. My starting weight today is 219.4 lbs. Right now, I'm focusing on cutting my calories, but I'd like to add some exercise soon.

Good luck. You have the best of reasons and plenty of time to be a slim beautiful bride :)
I would start to exercise as soon as possible if I were you. I always lost more weight the weeks that I did plenty of exercise along with the healthy eating.

@eyckmans -- Thanks. I agree that I should start exercising as soon as possible. My hours at work have been pretty long lately, so I'm having trouble getting started (both because there's little time, and because I'm so tired after a long day of work).

I ordered a video game called "Dance Dance Revolution", if any of you have heard of it. Basically, it's a video game where you have a mat with arrow buttons, and corresponding arrows scroll by on the screen as a song plays, and you 'dance' according to the arrows on the screen. I love playing video games, so I think it'll be a great form of cardio for me. I always the usual forms of exercise (running, elliptical machine, etc) to be so boring, but I've played this before and it's fun. Sadly, the game is taking forever to ship and isn't supposed to arrive until the 16th :(

My goal right now is a minimum of 5 lbs/month lost. I chose that because it should absolutely be reasonable to reach each month. Of course, if I happen to lose MORE than that I wouldn't mind :D If I lose 10 before a given month is up, though, I think I'll try to switch to maintenance for the rest of that month -- I don't want to lose too quickly and risk loose skin. My goal right now is to be 215 lbs by September 1st.

Tomorrow is Saturday, so I'll be posting my first Saturday weigh-in.

Good to see that you have realistic goals and want to do it the healthy way. My daughter has a dance mat like that and really enjoys it. It's important that you choose and exercise that you enjoy and then you will be far more likely to keep it up.
good luck with your weigh in tomorrow :)

Weight in today: 217.8

Probably a significant amount of that is water weight, because I'm not cutting my calories far enough to be losing that fast, but it still feels good to see the number drop :)

It doesn't matter if some of it is water loss, at least it shows that you are getting off to a good start :)

Despite snacking a bit more than I should and eating out over the weekend, my weight was down to 217.0 this morning. I'm definitely on track to reach my goal this month.

I've been taking a multivitamin since I decided to try losing weight again, and I feel like it's been really helpful in controlling cravings. I've tried losing weight other times, but I would just be hungry *all the time*. I haven't found that to be the case this time, and I don't think I'm really doing anything different other than the multivitamin. This really gives me hope I'll be able to stick with it this time, since it was always the cravings that would sabotage my efforts in the past. Now I'm just not getting them.

As it turns out, the shipping date on the dancing game I ordered was way over-estimated, and it looks like it's out for delivery this morning! Hopefully I'll have some time after work to try it out.

Got my Dance Dance Revolution game yesterday! I spent about an hour playing it last night, and the hour just kind of flew by. I definitely worked up a sweat playing it, and my leg muscles definitely feel it this morning. This is going to be a form of cardio I can definitely keep at.

I weighed 216.2 lbs when I weighed myself this morning! woo! Gonna hit that monthly goal of 215 real soon if I keep going at this rate.

DDR has been going great. I spent an hour doing it Monday night, and 45 minutes or so Tuesday night. I might need to take a rest day from it tonight because my muscles were so achy this morning. They're feeling somewhat better now, but still have a deep tired feeling. I'm looking forward to when I'm conditioned enough that I don't have to take a day off like this after just two days. The game is fun, and I want to play some more :)

I loved DDR in college. I used to have so much fun and you are right, the time flies. I just started doing the Hip Hop Abs videos and they are super fun too. I really work up a great sweat and I don't get bored. I just thought I would toss out another cardio suggestion in case you want to switch it up.

You have actually inspired me to break that game out again. It has been about 2 years since I played and I forgot how awesome it was.

Great job so far and good luck with the rest of your journey!

Weight in today: 213.8 (!)

I honestly haven't been decreasing my calories THAT much, usually been eating roughly 1600-2000 worth per day, which should be a deficit of 500-900 per day (going by fitday.com's numbers). That should be somewhere between 1-2 pounds per week....

...but I've been playing DDR a lot. It's been about an hour a night on weekdays, and 2 hours on days where I don't have to work. Since the day I got DDR, the slope of my weight loss line is much steeper than it was before. :D

Oof.

Didn't do so well this weekend, mostly because I was in a bad mood and didn't have the motivation to eat right/exercise. Weighed in at 215.4 this morning (not bad, and I suspect some of that is because I had lots of salty things over the weekend. I didn't overeat THAT badly haha)

Back on track this morning. Hopefully that number will go back down tomorrow :)

The last few days have been...well...frustrating.

I've been eating right and exercising, but the last few days have been 215.4, 215.2, 215.6....

I uh...haven't been as 'regular' lately though. I suspect that's what the problem is. Still, it's frustrating to see that number creeping up.

Maybe I'll have a good healthy salad tonight :D

Great job! Your goal will DEFINITELY be accomplished by wedding time if you keep this up :) As for being regular- I count my calories as well as my fiber, and I aim for between 25-35ish grams a day. It really makes ya pay attention to the types of food you eat :)

Have a great day today!
