i decided that its about time to change my life style. i started a a raw vegan diet a month ago. so far so good besides a bad case of gout that prevented me from working out for a week and a half.im 5'10 guy, i started at 265 and now down at 235. ive seen major improvents. i can now do cardio x with minimal rest. as far as cravings go i dont really miss meat i think i can handle it. im doing all of these so i can go all out with the p90x program early next year. hopefully by that time im down to 195 or so. yes i do realize that the weight loss is a little too fast but im not starving my self or anything except for a few days of water fasting before i started the raw vegan diet. i eat about 800 to 1000 cal per day which really fills me up.
so what do you guys think? any suggestions?

thanks.

Right off the bat?

Way too few calories
a pure raw diet
water fasting
a weight loss goal that is too much too fast..

sorry if you think this is negative but I am being honest.

1) Your calories of 800 to 1000 is easily 500 calories too few or more. cutting down that fast will hurt your body in the long run. Instead of looking at this like a race (more on that later) you should look at it as 'what changes to my diet can I make on a lifetime basis'

2) Personally? I think the raw diet is a bunch of bull but that's not the part I want to talk to you about. Is this a diet you want to do for the rest of your life? Are you doing this just because you know it will help weight loss. It will since more raw diets are low on the calorie scale. The raw diet is an extreme measure to take and you need to be sure on why you want to take such a step.

3) Why water fast? I know you did it for the raw food diet (again...really really not a fan on this). Is it something you plan to do again or is it a one time deal? If not...why?

4) A little fast is an overstatement on the speed. You should aim for 1% of body weight a week. At 235, that is 2.3 a week..which gets lower as you are closer to your goal. Even at 2.3 a week, to reach 195 that is 17ish weeks. When you say early next year, do you mean March? Also, you said you started at 265 and are now 235, is that when you started the raw diet? If you dropped that in 1 month, that is scary bad.

dont worry about it jericho, its all good. i like straight forward answers.

1. i understand what your saying about the calories the only problem is that i can only handle a fruit or two every meal i try to eat 4-5 a day.

2. yes i want to continue this raw vegan diet as much as i can. ill probably sneak in some organic egg whites when im doing weight training. im doing this not just for weight loss but for many other reasons as well.

3.it did the water cleanse before i jump in to the raw vegan diet. then after a month i did it again for two days. nothing too crazy. i just want my body to recover and cleanse it self.

4. yes it is a bit too quick, but i think its common when ur in a raw vegan diet. ill try to bump it up to 1200-1400. but the fruits and veggies are just too low in calories. with this phase im aiming at late jan early feb.

thanks for the reply

might I ask where you get the science about cleansing with the water fasting? I have yet to find anyone (oh and medical studies and doctors can't either) to state what is 'cleansed' with this. I'm glad you are only doing it for a few days but I'm just curious as why you think this is actually doing anything for you?

Yeah..don't believe everything you read. If you are looking for medical advice, really not the best place to go seeing how many fads and people trying to sell crap. Detox is one of those fads. If you look for actual medical research on the subject, you won't find any touting detox. The people selling the idea always just say 'toxins' with out ever being able to actually explain either what they are or why your body suddenly can't flush your system out like it has been forever.
